Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.
Job Area:
Engineering Group, Engineering Group > Systems Engineering
General Summary:
Qualcomm's Data Center team is developing high-performance, energy-efficient server solutions for data center applications. We are looking for highly talented, innovative, and teamwork-oriented engineers to join our cutting-edge server platform development efforts.
Our Mission
We are dedicated to transforming the data center industry by developing next-generation server computing platforms based on Qualcomm's server-class SoC technology. By joining our team, you will collaborate with world-class engineers to create innovative solutions that push the limits of performance, energy efficiency, and scalability. Our work spans reference hardware platforms, design validation, firmware bring-up, and customer enablement — delivering complete platform solutions that include hardware designs, reference boards, user guides, and technical documentation.
Position: Server Platform Architect
As a Staff or Sr. Staff Server Platform Architect, you will own hands-on design and technical execution of high-performance server platforms, working in close collaboration with the Server Platform Architect. You will drive design delivery across hardware, signal integrity, and platform bring-up — translating architecture direction into working silicon and system-level solutions. You will interface directly with cross-functional engineering teams including SoC, software, firmware, packaging, and SI/PI, and will be a key technical contributor in taking platforms from concept through production milestones.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with internal SoC, packaging, firmware, and software teams to ensure platform designs meet system integration and performance targets
- Deliver top-tier test and reference platforms to both internal teams and external customers
- Collaborate with customers to guide and support the development of custom platforms leveraging Qualcomm CPUs
- Partner with internal teams, marketing, end-customers, OEMs, and suppliers to create platform roadmaps and detailed requirement documentation
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, and oversight across all platform functions (mother board/hardware, socket, mechanical, thermal, electrical, operations, documentation, etc.) during platform design-in and bring-up phases
- Participate in partner and supplier engagements on emerging technologies including memory, storage, networking, and power delivery
- Own and maintain platform design documentation, hardware specifications, and bring-up procedures for assigned subsystems
- Prepare and present clear and comprehensive technical documentation and reports tailored to the needs of stakeholders, including engineering teams, senior management, customers, and suppliers
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- 8+ years of experience in hardware architecture and design for server or data center environments
- Strong expertise in signal integrity, power integrity, and high-speed analog and digital designs
- Deep proficiency in DDR5, PCIe Gen 5/6/7, Ethernet, SerDes, and platform management protocols including I3C, I2C, SPI, MDIO, and SMBUS
- Hands-on experience with lab and debug tools including high-speed oscilloscopes, differential probes, VNAs, and logic analyzers
- Strong technical documentation skills with excellent written and verbal communication
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field
- 12+ years of experience in hardware design for data center environments
- In-depth knowledge of data center architectures, spanning from edge computing to hyperscale infrastructures
- Demonstrated experience supporting platform design-in at OEMs, CMs, or hyperscaler customers
- Proven success in delivering scalable solutions for hyperscale and enterprise data centers, including experience with OCP initiatives
- Familiarity with CXL protocol and composable/disaggregated infrastructure concepts
- Experience with OCP / ORV3 platform standards and hyperscale deployment requirements
- Familiarity with advanced memory module architectures such as SOCAMM or equivalent
- Experience with chiplet-based or advanced packaging platform designs
- Expertise in multi-phase DC-DC power supply design and magnetics for high-power server platforms
- Familiarity with design tools such as OrCAD and Allegro
- Working knowledge of Linux, Python, and C++
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 6+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 5+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.

Target engineering and R&D roles first
Qualcomm's sponsorship activity is concentrated in highly technical positions, semiconductor design, wireless systems, and software engineering. Applying to roles in these areas gives you the strongest chance of landing a sponsored position at the company.
Understand Qualcomm's H-1B track record before applying
Qualcomm is an active H-1B sponsor with a consistent filing history. Knowing this going in lets you approach the application with confidence rather than uncertainty about whether sponsorship is genuinely on the table for your role.
OPT and CPT candidates have a real pathway here
Qualcomm sponsors F-1 OPT and CPT, making it a strong target for international students finishing U.S. degrees. Internships and new grad programs often serve as the entry point for longer-term sponsored employment after graduation.
TN visa holders from Canada and Mexico should apply directly
Qualcomm sponsors TN visas, which means Canadian and Mexican professionals in qualifying occupations can pursue roles without H-1B lottery risk. This is a significant advantage worth highlighting early in conversations with Qualcomm recruiters.
Search for Qualcomm openings on a platform that filters by sponsorship
Not every job posting makes sponsorship eligibility clear. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and find Qualcomm roles where international candidates are genuinely welcome to apply.
Prepare for a multi-stage technical interview process
Qualcomm's hiring in semiconductor and wireless engineering is rigorous. Expect system design, coding, and domain-specific technical rounds. Arriving prepared for depth, not just breadth, significantly improves your odds of clearing the process.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Qualcomm sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Qualcomm sponsors H-1B visas and is one of the most active H-1B sponsors in the semiconductor and wireless technology industry. The company files petitions across engineering, research, and technical roles on a consistent basis, making it a reliable option for international professionals who need H-1B sponsorship to work in the U.S.
Which visa types does Qualcomm sponsor?
Qualcomm sponsors a broad range of visa types, including H-1B, H-1B1 visa, TN visa, J-1 visa, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT. It also supports Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3 classifications. This range makes Qualcomm accessible to international candidates at multiple career stages, from students finishing U.S. degrees to experienced professionals pursuing permanent residence.
Which departments or roles at Qualcomm are most likely to receive visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at Qualcomm is most concentrated in highly technical roles, particularly semiconductor design, VLSI engineering, wireless systems, RF engineering, and software development. Research and applied science positions also see strong sponsorship activity. Roles in general business functions tend to see less sponsorship activity compared to core engineering and R&D departments.
How do I find open jobs at Qualcomm that sponsor visas?
The most reliable approach is to search on Migrate Mate, which surfaces verified sponsoring employers and lets you filter specifically for companies with a proven sponsorship history like Qualcomm. This removes the guesswork of figuring out whether a given posting is open to international candidates, so you can focus your energy on applying rather than researching.
How do I know if Qualcomm will sponsor a Green Card for me?
Qualcomm does sponsor Green Cards through EB-2 and EB-3 pathways, though sponsorship for permanent residence is typically initiated after you've joined the company and demonstrated strong performance. It's not something offered upfront in most cases. During the interview process, it's reasonable to ask HR about the company's general policy on Green Card sponsorship for your specific role and level.
