Align Your Resume to Qualcomm's DSP Focus
Qualcomm's software teams heavily prioritize signal processing, multimedia codecs, and low-level drivers for Snapdragon platforms. Tailoring your resume to reflect experience in these areas puts you in front of the right hiring managers before your visa situation ever comes up.
Verify Your OPT STEM Extension Eligibility Early
Computer science and electrical engineering degrees from ABET-accredited programs qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension. Confirm your program is on the STEM designated degree list before accepting an offer, so your authorized period covers Qualcomm's typical onboarding and H-1B filing cycle.
Target Roles Tied to a Specific Snapdragon Product Line
Qualcomm organizes software hiring around product verticals like gaming, streaming, and XR. Applying to roles explicitly tied to a product line signals domain fit and increases your odds of moving past recruiter screening into a team that actively needs to backfill sponsored positions.
Understand How Qualcomm Structures the H-1B Cap Year
Qualcomm files H-1B petitions in April for an October 1 start date. If you're on OPT and receive an offer after the registration window closes, confirm with HR whether cap-gap protection under your I-20 will cover your start date through September 30.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Open Roles by Visa Type
Qualcomm posts across multiple job boards, but not every listing flags sponsorship availability. Use Migrate Mate to filter Software Developer openings at Qualcomm by the visa types you hold or need, so you're only applying to roles where sponsorship is confirmed.
Request Clarity on PERM Sponsorship Before Accepting
Qualcomm sponsors permanent residence for many Software Developer roles, but timelines depend on your country of birth. Before signing an offer, ask HR directly whether your role is slated for PERM sponsorship and at what point in tenure the process typically begins.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Qualcomm sponsor H-1B visas for Software Developers?
Yes, Qualcomm sponsors H-1B visas for Software Developer roles and has done so consistently across its engineering divisions. The company participates in the annual H-1B cap registration each spring and also files cap-exempt petitions where applicable. If you're on OPT, Qualcomm's HR teams are accustomed to timing offers around the USCIS registration window and cap-gap rules.
How do I apply for Software Developer jobs at Qualcomm?
Applications go through Qualcomm's careers portal, where roles are organized by product line and engineering function. Referrals from current employees move faster through initial screening. You can also browse and filter open Software Developer positions at Qualcomm by visa type through Migrate Mate, which surfaces sponsorship-confirmed listings so you're not applying blind.
Which visa types does Qualcomm commonly use for Software Developer roles?
Qualcomm sponsors H-1B and H-1B1 visa for specialty occupation roles, supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students in qualifying programs, and uses TN status for Canadian and Mexican nationals in eligible computer-related occupations. For long-term employees, Qualcomm also sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card petitions through the PERM labor certification process at the Department of Labor.
What qualifications does Qualcomm expect for sponsored Software Developer positions?
Most sponsored Software Developer roles at Qualcomm require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, or a directly related field, which is also the threshold USCIS requires for H-1B specialty occupation classification. Qualcomm's media and entertainment-facing software teams typically look for experience in GPU or DSP programming, multimedia frameworks, or platform-level development for Android or embedded systems.
How do I time my job search at Qualcomm around the H-1B filing calendar?
USCIS opens H-1B cap registration each March for an October 1 start date. To have your petition filed in that window, you generally need an offer and completed I-129 preparation by late March. Starting your search at Qualcomm between October and January gives you enough lead time to clear interviews, negotiate an offer, and allow Qualcomm's immigration team to prepare your petition before the registration deadline.
