Align your portfolio with Chewy's tech stack
Chewy's engineering teams work heavily on e-commerce infrastructure, recommendation systems, and fulfillment technology. Tailor your GitHub projects and resume to reflect distributed systems, Java or Kotlin backends, and consumer-facing platform experience before applying.
Target teams hiring across multiple visa types
Chewy sponsors across multiple visa categories including H-1B, TN, and F-1 OPT. When reviewing job postings, look for roles under engineering divisions that have posted multiple openings, since those teams are actively scaling and more likely to engage candidates needing sponsorship.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsoring roles
Not every Chewy software posting explicitly states sponsorship availability. Use Migrate Mate to browse Software Developer openings at Chewy that are filtered by verified visa sponsorship history, saving time you'd otherwise spend cold-applying to roles with no clear pathway.
Start OPT applications well before your cap-gap window
If you're on F-1 OPT and receive a Chewy offer, confirm your OPT end date immediately. USCIS requires H-1B petitions filed in April to cover cap-gap employment continuity. Delays in your employer's LCA filing with DOL can jeopardize that bridge if your OPT expires before October 1.
Clarify sponsorship scope during offer negotiation
Before signing, confirm whether Chewy's offer covers both the H-1B filing and any future Green Card sponsorship under EB-2 or EB-3. PERM labor certification timelines in software engineering can stretch two or more years, so understanding the employer's commitment early matters.
Prepare a degree equivalency summary for specialty occupation review
H-1B petitions for Software Developer roles require USCIS to confirm specialty occupation status. If your degree is from outside the U.S., prepare a credential evaluation in advance showing equivalency to a U.S. bachelor's in computer science or a related technical field.

Find Software Developer at Chewy JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Chewy sponsor H-1B visas for Software Developers?
Yes, Chewy sponsors H-1B visas for Software Developer roles. The company has an established pattern of filing H-1B petitions for engineering positions, and it participates in the annual H-1B lottery each April. If you're targeting Chewy, confirming sponsorship intent during the recruiter screen is the right first step before advancing through the interview process.
How do I apply for Software Developer jobs at Chewy?
Applications go through Chewy's careers portal, where Software Developer roles are listed by team and location. You can also browse verified sponsoring openings on Migrate Mate, which filters Chewy's software postings by visa sponsorship history so you're only spending time on roles with a documented pathway for international candidates.
Which visa types does Chewy commonly use for Software Developer roles?
Chewy sponsors H-1B visas as the primary long-term work authorization path for Software Developers. The company also works with F-1 OPT and CPT for candidates still in or recently graduated from U.S. degree programs, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals, and employment-based Green Card sponsorship under EB-2 and EB-3 categories for longer-tenured employees.
What qualifications does Chewy expect from Software Developer candidates?
Chewy's Software Developer roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. Hands-on experience with backend or full-stack development is expected, with particular emphasis on building scalable systems. For H-1B sponsorship, USCIS requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation, so your degree field should align directly with the technical scope of the position.
How do I time my application if my OPT or H-1B status has a deadline?
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed in April for an October 1 start date, so you need a Chewy offer in hand before that window opens. If you're on OPT, your employer must also file a Labor Condition Application with DOL before submitting the H-1B petition to USCIS. For F-1 students nearing OPT expiration, starting the recruiter process no later than January gives enough lead time to meet these sequential filing deadlines.
