Align your portfolio with Apple's platforms
Apple's Software Developer roles frequently emphasize experience with Swift, Objective-C, Apple silicon, or core OS frameworks. Before applying, build or document projects that demonstrate direct familiarity with these ecosystems rather than generic full-stack work.
Target specific Apple product divisions early
Apple organizes hiring by product line, not just discipline. Roles on the iOS team, Siri, or Apple silicon differ significantly in what they require. Identifying which division aligns with your background lets you tailor applications before roles fill internally.
Verify your degree field supports specialty occupation
USCIS requires that Software Developer roles meet the specialty occupation standard, meaning your degree field must directly relate to the position. A computer science or software engineering degree maps cleanly; an unrelated field may require additional documentation from your employer.
Time your H-1B filing around Apple's recruitment cycle
Apple typically recruits for full-time Software Developer roles in the fall and spring. The H-1B cap opens each April 1 for an October 1 start. Securing an offer by January gives your employer enough runway to prepare the USCIS filing and Labor Condition Application with DOL.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Software Developer roles at Apple
Apple's open Software Developer positions are filterable by visa type on Migrate Mate, so you can focus on roles where sponsorship has already been confirmed rather than guessing from a generic careers page.
Prepare for Apple's structured technical interview process
Apple's Software Developer interviews typically run four to six rounds covering algorithms, system design, and coding in Swift or C++. Clearing these rounds before raising visa sponsorship avoids delays, since most offers specify visa type only after headcount approval.

Find Software Developer at Apple JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Apple sponsor H-1B visas for Software Developers?
Yes, Apple sponsors H-1B visas for Software Developers. The company files H-1B petitions across a broad range of engineering disciplines, including iOS, systems software, and platform roles. Because the H-1B has an annual cap and a lottery process managed by USCIS, timing your offer and application well before the April registration window is critical to securing a spot.
Which visa types does Apple commonly sponsor for Software Developer roles?
Apple sponsors H-1B, H-1B1, E-3, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and employment-based Green Cards including EB-2 and EB-3 for Software Developer roles. Australian citizens may qualify for the E-3, Canadian and Mexican nationals for TN. For students completing degrees in the U.S., F-1 OPT is typically the entry point before transitioning to a longer-term visa.
How do I apply for Software Developer jobs at Apple?
Applications go through Apple's careers site, but roles fill quickly and many require referrals to get through initial screening. Filtering for positions that explicitly support visa sponsorship saves time. Migrate Mate lets you browse open Software Developer roles at Apple filtered by visa type, so you can apply directly to positions where sponsorship has already been confirmed.
What qualifications does Apple expect for Software Developer roles requiring sponsorship?
Apple's Software Developer roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field, which also satisfies USCIS specialty occupation requirements. Practical experience with Apple platforms, proficiency in Swift or C++, and demonstrable system design skills carry significant weight, particularly for senior-level positions where sponsorship for an employment-based Green Card may also be considered.
How do I know if Apple will sponsor my specific visa type before I apply?
Job postings don't always specify which visa types a role will support. The most reliable way to confirm sponsorship eligibility is to ask during the recruiter screen before advancing to technical interviews. Apple's immigration team works with its legal counsel to assess each candidate's situation individually, and the visa type is typically formalized only after an offer is extended and headcount is approved.
