Tailor your portfolio to autonomous systems
Zoox hires Software Developers to work on self-driving stacks, not standard consumer apps. Highlight experience with robotics middleware, real-time systems, sensor fusion, or safety-critical software to signal immediate relevance to their engineering teams.
Confirm your visa category before applying
Zoox sponsors multiple visa types including H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT. Knowing which category fits your nationality and status lets you ask the right questions early and avoids misaligned expectations during the offer stage.
Target roles that clear the specialty occupation bar
USCIS requires H-1B positions to qualify as specialty occupations. Zoox's Software Developer roles in perception, planning, and simulation typically require a degree in computer science or engineering, which meets that standard more cleanly than generalist product roles.
Plan your OPT timeline around Zoox's hiring cycles
If you're on F-1 OPT, your work authorization window is fixed. Zoox tends to hire on a rolling basis, so apply early enough to leave room for onboarding before your OPT expires and any cap-gap or H-1B transition kicks in.
Understand what PERM means for your long-term path
Zoox sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards, which require DOL's PERM labor certification. This process takes months before USCIS even sees your petition, so clarify with your recruiter how soon after hiring Zoox typically initiates that process.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Software Developer roles at Zoox
Zoox posts Software Developer positions across multiple engineering domains at different times. Use Migrate Mate to filter active openings by visa type and role so you're applying to positions where sponsorship is already confirmed rather than chasing dead ends.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Zoox sponsor H-1B visas for Software Developers?
Yes, Zoox sponsors H-1B visas for Software Developer roles. The company has a consistent pattern of filing H-1B petitions for engineering positions, including roles in autonomous vehicle software, simulation, and machine learning infrastructure. Because Zoox's Software Developer positions require specialized technical degrees, they generally satisfy USCIS's specialty occupation standard without issue.
How do I apply for Software Developer jobs at Zoox?
Applications go through Zoox's careers page, where Software Developer roles are listed by team and technical focus area. Use Migrate Mate to identify which open positions include visa sponsorship before applying, so you're not spending time on roles that won't support your work authorization. Tailor your resume to Zoox's autonomous vehicle stack to improve your chances of clearing the initial screen.
Which visa types does Zoox commonly use for Software Developer roles?
Zoox sponsors several visa categories for Software Developers, including H-1B, H-1B1 visa for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, E-3 visa for Australians, TN visa for Canadians and Mexicans, and F-1 OPT and CPT for students. For longer-term immigration, Zoox also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship, which goes through DOL's PERM labor certification process before USCIS adjudication.
What qualifications does Zoox expect from Software Developer candidates?
Zoox's Software Developer roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, or a closely related field. Beyond the degree, positions in their autonomous vehicle stack favor hands-on experience with C++, Python, robotics frameworks, or real-time systems. Roles in perception, planning, and simulation often require graduate-level depth or equivalent industry experience in safety-critical environments.
How do I time a visa sponsorship conversation with Zoox during the hiring process?
Raise your visa status during the offer stage, not before. Zoox's recruiters are experienced with international candidates, so the conversation is routine. If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your remaining authorization window and whether Zoox will file an H-1B petition in the next lottery cycle. For H-1B transfers from another employer, USCIS allows you to start work once the new petition is received, not just approved.
