Zoox is on a mission to reimagine transportation and ground-up build autonomous robotaxis that are safe, reliable, clean, and enjoyable for everyone. We are still in the early stages of deploying our robotaxis on public roads, and it is a great time to join Zoox and have a significant impact in executing this mission. The ML Platform team at Zoox plays a crucial role in enabling innovations in ML and CV to make autonomous driving as seamless as possible.
The Opportunity
Would you like to be part of the ML Training platform team that enables autonomous driving, driving scenario understanding, learned planning and trajectories, large scale driving simulations and several other ML use cases at Zoox? You will get to work across all ML teams within Zoox - Foundation Models, Perception, Prediction, Planner, Simulation, Data Science, Collision Avoidance, etc. and have the opportunity to significantly push the boundaries of how ML is practiced within Zoox.
The ML Training platform team builds and operates the core part of the ML platform that powers model training at scale. We are responsible for developing and operating ML tools, deep learning frameworks, and distributed model training infrastructure to support foundational models and reinforcement learning. This team also owns the model repository and model lifecycle management tools used by our applied research teams for in- and off-vehicle ML use cases. You will play a crucial role in reducing the time it takes from ideation to productionization of cutting-edge AI innovation. This team has a lot of growth opportunities as we expand our robotaxi deployments and venture into new ML domains.
In this role, you will:
- Build the Zoox Training framework leveraged by all ML teams within Zoox. This framework needs to be highly scalable, reliable, and efficient.
- Design, implement, and operate a robust and efficient ML platform to enable the training, validation, serving, and monitoring of ML models.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including ML researchers, software engineers, and data engineers, to define requirements and align on architectural decisions.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of ML infrastructure experience.
- Experience with training frameworks like PyTorch, DeepSpeed, JAX, Ray, etc.
- Experience working with cloud providers like AWS.
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience with building large-scale, cost-efficient distributed model training and ML compute infrastructure.
- Experience with building model lifecycle management tools and experimentation.

Tailor your portfolio to autonomous systems
Zoox hires ML engineers to solve problems in perception, sensor fusion, and motion prediction. Projects or publications involving LiDAR data, trajectory forecasting, or real-time inference will read as directly relevant to their hiring team.
Confirm your visa type before applying
Zoox sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT among other categories. Knowing which visa applies to your nationality lets you ask targeted questions during recruiting and avoids surprises at the offer stage.
Time OPT applications around Zoox hiring cycles
If you're on F-1 OPT, USCIS recommends filing your OPT EAD application 90 days before your program end date. Coordinating your job search so an offer arrives before your OPT window closes prevents unnecessary gaps.
Ask specifically about internal H-1B transfer timelines
If you already hold an H-1B with another employer, Zoox can file an H-1B transfer and you're authorized to start on the receipt notice. Confirm this with the recruiter early so your start date doesn't get delayed by processing assumptions.
Use Migrate Mate to surface active ML openings at Zoox
ML roles at Zoox span perception, simulation, and autonomy planning, and they don't all carry identical titles. Use Migrate Mate to filter Zoox's open positions by role function and confirmed sponsorship so you're applying to the right listings.
Understand how PERM affects long-term planning at Zoox
Zoox sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards, which require a PERM labor certification filed with the DOL. For ML engineers from India or China, priority date backlogs make early employer conversations about Green Card timelines essential.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Zoox sponsor H-1B visas for Machine Learning roles?
Yes, Zoox sponsors H-1B visas for Machine Learning positions. The company has a consistent history of filing H-1B petitions for technical roles including ML engineers. If you're already on an H-1B with another employer, Zoox can file a transfer petition, and you're generally authorized to begin work once USCIS issues a receipt notice.
Which visa types does Zoox commonly sponsor for Machine Learning positions?
Zoox sponsors a wide range of visa categories for ML roles, including H-1B, H-1B1 visa (for Chilean and Singaporean nationals), E-3 visa (for Australian nationals), TN visa (for Canadian and Mexican nationals), F-1 OPT and CPT, J-1 visa, and immigrant pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards. The right category depends on your nationality and current immigration status.
What qualifications does Zoox expect for Machine Learning roles?
Zoox ML roles typically require a graduate degree in computer science, electrical engineering, robotics, or a closely related field, along with hands-on experience in deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow. For senior roles, published research or production experience in perception, prediction, or planning systems is commonly expected. Familiarity with sensor data pipelines, particularly LiDAR and camera fusion, is a recurring requirement across their ML job postings.
How do I apply for Machine Learning jobs at Zoox?
You can browse and apply for Machine Learning openings at Zoox directly through their careers page, or use Migrate Mate to filter Zoox positions by role type and confirmed visa sponsorship. When applying, align your resume and portfolio to Zoox's autonomous vehicle focus, specifically perception, simulation, or planning systems. Recruiting timelines for ML roles can run eight to twelve weeks from initial screen to offer.
How do I plan my visa timeline when targeting a Machine Learning role at Zoox?
Timeline planning depends on your current status. F-1 OPT applicants should file the EAD with USCIS up to 90 days before their program end date to avoid work authorization gaps. H-1B cap-subject candidates need an offer in place before the April lottery registration window. E-3 and TN holders can typically move faster since those categories are not lottery-dependent and can be processed at the consulate or port of entry.
