Frame your portfolio around retail systems
Chewy's product engineering work spans inventory management, fulfillment pipelines, and customer-facing e-commerce. Highlighting projects involving distributed systems, order management, or supply chain tooling positions your experience directly against their core engineering needs.
Clarify your visa status before applying
Chewy sponsors multiple visa types, but timelines differ significantly. If you're on F-1 OPT with a cap-gap situation approaching, flag your STEM OPT eligibility upfront so the hiring team can align their H-1B filing timeline with your authorization window.
Target roles tied to platform or checkout engineering
Chewy's product engineering hiring clusters around customer platform teams. Roles involving payment systems, product catalog infrastructure, or recommendation engines see consistent demand and are more likely to move through the full sponsorship pipeline than exploratory R&D positions.
Understand what PERM means for your timeline
If you're targeting permanent residency through an EB-2 or EB-3 pathway, PERM requires DOL-supervised recruitment before Chewy can file on your behalf. That process typically takes 12 to 18 months before the I-140 stage, so start that conversation early in your tenure.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsorship openings
Not every Product Engineer listing at Chewy will specify visa sponsorship eligibility. Use Migrate Mate to filter for roles where Chewy has a confirmed sponsorship history, so you're spending time on applications that can actually move forward for international candidates.
Confirm LCA wage level alignment with your offer
For H-1B filings, Chewy's employer of record must file a Labor Condition Application with DOL certifying your offered wage meets prevailing wage standards for your location and role level. Review the LCA wage tiers before negotiating your offer to avoid mismatches that delay the petition.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Chewy sponsor H-1B visas for Product Engineers?
Yes, Chewy sponsors H-1B visas for Product Engineer roles. The company has an established pattern of filing H-1B petitions for product and engineering functions, particularly for roles tied to their e-commerce and fulfillment platforms. Because the H-1B is subject to the annual lottery, timing your application cycle and confirming sponsorship intent with your recruiter before the March registration window is essential.
Which visa types does Chewy commonly use for Product Engineer roles?
Chewy sponsors H-1B visas as the primary work authorization pathway for Product Engineers, along with TN visa status for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying roles. For candidates already in the U.S. on F-1 status, Chewy supports both OPT and CPT. For longer-term permanent residency, Chewy has sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card petitions for engineering roles that meet the PERM labor certification requirements.
How do I apply for Product Engineer jobs at Chewy?
You can browse and apply for Product Engineer openings directly through Chewy's careers site. To find roles with confirmed visa sponsorship history, Migrate Mate filters Chewy's active listings by sponsorship track record, saving you from applying to postings where international candidates aren't supported. When you apply, clearly indicate your visa status and authorization timeline so recruiters can plan any required filing around your situation.
What qualifications does Chewy expect for Product Engineer roles?
Chewy's Product Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. Practical experience with backend services, API development, or distributed systems is commonly required. For H-1B eligibility, the role must qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, meaning a specific degree in a relevant technical field is a requirement of the position, not just a preference.
How do I manage my visa timeline during the Chewy hiring process?
If you're targeting an H-1B and your current authorization has a fixed end date, work backward from the April 1 USCIS filing deadline. Chewy needs time to prepare the Labor Condition Application with DOL and assemble the I-129 petition before filing. Aim to have an offer finalized by late January or early February at the latest to give the legal team adequate preparation time without rushing a petition that affects your status.
