Frame your portfolio around on-device AI
Qualcomm's AI hiring centers on edge inference and neural processing units, not cloud-scale model training. Showcase projects involving model quantization, INT8 deployment, or TensorFlow Lite to signal direct relevance before your resume even reaches a recruiter.
Verify your employer's E-Verify enrollment early
Qualcomm participates in E-Verify, which is required for F-1 OPT STEM extensions. Confirm your offer letter references STEM OPT eligibility explicitly before your initial 12-month OPT period expires, since the extension window is narrow.
Distinguish H-1B1 from H-1B if you hold Chilean or Singaporean citizenship
Qualcomm sponsors H-1B1 visas, which skip the annual lottery entirely. If you qualify, target this category directly when discussing sponsorship with your recruiter rather than defaulting to the cap-subject H-1B process.
Target Qualcomm's media and entertainment AI teams
Roles focused on video codec optimization, real-time rendering AI, and spatial audio processing sit at the intersection of Qualcomm's chip business and media industry demand. Positioning yourself here narrows competition and aligns with active headcount growth in this vertical.
Align your start date with H-1B cap timelines
USCIS opens H-1B registration in March each year with an October 1 start date if selected. When negotiating your Qualcomm offer, confirm whether premium processing is on the table to reduce the I-129 adjudication window from several months to around 15 business days.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Qualcomm sponsor H-1B visas for AI Engineers?
Yes, Qualcomm sponsors H-1B visas for AI Engineers and has a well-established sponsorship process for this role category. The company files across both cap-subject H-1B and cap-exempt pathways depending on your situation, and also supports Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 and EB-3 classifications for longer-tenured employees moving toward permanent residence.
How do I apply for AI Engineer jobs at Qualcomm?
Applications go through Qualcomm's official careers portal, where AI Engineer roles are listed under engineering and research categories. Use Migrate Mate to browse currently open, visa-sponsorship-eligible AI Engineer positions at Qualcomm filtered by visa type, which saves time compared to manually tracking individual postings across Qualcomm's various business units and lab locations.
Which visa types does Qualcomm commonly use for AI Engineer roles?
Qualcomm sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and J-1 visas for AI Engineers, along with immigrant visa pathways through EB-2 and EB-3 PERM labor certification. F-1 OPT holders in AI Engineering typically qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension, giving additional runway before an H-1B petition needs to be filed.
What qualifications does Qualcomm expect for AI Engineer roles?
Most Qualcomm AI Engineer postings require a bachelor's degree at minimum in computer science, electrical engineering, or a closely related field, with a master's or Ph.D. preferred for research-oriented positions. Practical experience with on-device machine learning frameworks, neural network optimization, and hardware-aware model deployment carries significant weight, particularly for roles tied to Qualcomm's Snapdragon and Hexagon processor lines.
How do I time the sponsorship process if I'm starting as an F-1 OPT student?
If you begin at Qualcomm on F-1 OPT, your employer needs to file your STEM OPT extension with USCIS at least 90 days before your initial OPT expires. Qualcomm would then file your H-1B registration in March for the following October start. Coordinating these two deadlines carefully, ideally within your first few months on the job, prevents gaps in work authorization.
