Align Your Experience to Licensing Revenue
Qualcomm's Business Development team is heavily focused on technology licensing and chipset commercialization, not traditional sales pipelines. Frame your experience around deal structures, IP partnerships, or platform adoption cycles to match what their hiring managers actually evaluate.
Target Roles Tied to Specific Verticals
Qualcomm segments its BD function by vertical, including automotive, mobile, and IoT. Applying to roles aligned with your domain expertise, rather than broad BD openings, puts your profile in front of teams more likely to initiate sponsorship without hesitation.
Prepare Your Degree Equivalency Documentation Early
Specialty occupation determinations for BD roles can be contested if your degree field is not directly aligned with business development or a technical discipline. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-member organization before your first interview so you can respond immediately if asked.
Understand How TN Status Fits BD Roles
Canadian and Mexican candidates should confirm their degree and job duties satisfy the TN economist or management consultant category, since BD roles at Qualcomm often span strategic and analytical functions. A mismatch between your offered title and the TN classification can complicate entry.
Track the H-1B Cap Timeline Before Accepting an Offer
If you are not currently in H-1B status, registrations open each March for an October 1 start. If you receive an offer outside that window, negotiate a start date that aligns with USCIS's cap cycle to avoid losing the offer over timing.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Open Roles by Visa Type
Qualcomm posts Business Development Manager positions across multiple sub-teams with varying sponsorship appetite. Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by the visa types they support so you focus your time on positions that match your current status.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Qualcomm sponsor H-1B visas for Business Development Managers?
Yes, Qualcomm sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development Managers. The company has an established immigration program and regularly supports H-1B petitions for this function. Sponsorship is most common when the role requires specialized technical or commercial expertise, so positioning your background around Qualcomm's licensing or chipset business strengthens your case with both the hiring team and USCIS.
Which visa types does Qualcomm commonly use for Business Development Manager roles?
Qualcomm sponsors H-1B and H-1B1 visas for Business Development Managers, along with F-1 OPT and CPT extensions for recent graduates entering the function. TN visa status is an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals whose degree and job duties map to an eligible TN category. For longer-term permanent residence, Qualcomm supports EB-2 and EB-3 green card pathways for qualifying employees.
How do I apply for Business Development Manager jobs at Qualcomm?
Applications go through Qualcomm's careers portal. Browse open positions filtered by the Business Development function, then submit your resume tailored to the specific vertical, such as automotive, mobile, or IoT, that the role covers. Migrate Mate aggregates Qualcomm's sponsored BD openings in one place, letting you filter by visa type before you apply so you only pursue roles that match your current immigration status.
What qualifications does Qualcomm expect for Business Development Manager candidates?
Qualcomm typically expects a bachelor's degree in a technical or business discipline, with stronger preference given to candidates holding graduate degrees or equivalent commercial experience in semiconductors, wireless technology, or licensing negotiations. Demonstrated ability to structure and close complex agreements, familiarity with go-to-market strategy in hardware or platform ecosystems, and cross-functional collaboration experience are all consistently weighted in the hiring process.
How do I navigate the visa filing timeline after receiving a Qualcomm offer?
If you need H-1B sponsorship and are not already in cap-counted status, Qualcomm must register you in USCIS's annual lottery, which opens each March. A selected registration allows filing from April 1 for an October 1 start date. For F-1 OPT holders, confirm your OPT expiration date and cap-gap eligibility with Qualcomm's immigration team before signing, since a gap between OPT expiration and H-1B activation can interrupt employment.
