Align your specialization with Qualcomm's roadmap
Qualcomm prioritizes engineers with depth in areas like 5G modem software, Snapdragon platform development, and multimedia processing. Framing your experience around their product lines, not generic software roles, makes your application far harder to pass over.
Verify your OPT STEM extension eligibility early
Computer science and electrical engineering degrees typically qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension. Confirm your CIP code with your DSO before applying, because Qualcomm's hiring timelines for Software Engineers can stretch across multiple interview rounds.
Find Qualcomm's sponsored roles through Migrate Mate
Filter by Qualcomm and your visa type on Migrate Mate to surface Software Engineer openings where sponsorship is confirmed. This saves time you'd otherwise spend chasing roles that don't support your authorization status.
Understand how Qualcomm files LCAs for engineers
Before Qualcomm can sponsor your H-1B, the Department of Labor must certify a Labor Condition Application confirming the offered wage meets the prevailing rate for your location and job level. Search DOL's disclosure data to see which Qualcomm sites file most actively for Software Engineer titles.
Prepare for Qualcomm's technical screening before discussing sponsorship
Qualcomm's Software Engineer interviews emphasize OS internals, low-level C/C++, and sometimes DSP or RF concepts depending on the team. Sponsorship conversations typically happen after you clear technical rounds, so your code and system design skills open the door first.
Plan your H-1B cap timeline around Qualcomm's offer process
USCIS opens H-1B registration in March for an October 1 start date. If you receive an offer after the lottery closes, ask Qualcomm's immigration team whether a cap-exempt filing or a TN classification applies to your situation while you wait for the next cycle.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Qualcomm sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineers?
Yes, Qualcomm sponsors H-1B visas for Software Engineers and has done so consistently across its engineering divisions. The company works with immigration counsel to file H-1B petitions, including Labor Condition Applications through the DOL and Form I-129 petitions with USCIS. Sponsorship is typically confirmed during the offer stage after you've cleared technical interviews.
Which visa types does Qualcomm commonly sponsor for Software Engineers?
Qualcomm sponsors a range of visa types for Software Engineers, including H-1B, H-1B1 visa for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican citizens, F-1 OPT and CPT for students, J-1 visa for exchange visitors, and employment-based Green Cards through the EB-2 and EB-3 categories. The right pathway depends on your nationality, degree, and where you are in your career.
How do I apply for Software Engineer jobs at Qualcomm?
Apply through Qualcomm's careers portal or browse confirmed sponsoring roles on Migrate Mate, which filters listings by visa type so you can identify positions open to your authorization status. Qualcomm's Software Engineer roles typically require a technical screen followed by multiple rounds covering algorithms, systems design, and domain-specific knowledge relevant to the team you're joining.
What qualifications does Qualcomm expect for Software Engineer roles?
Most Software Engineer positions at Qualcomm require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field. For visa sponsorship purposes, your degree must align with the specialty occupation requirement. Beyond credentials, Qualcomm's teams place heavy weight on proficiency in C, C++, or Python, and familiarity with embedded systems, wireless protocols, or multimedia pipelines is a meaningful differentiator for many of their roles.
How do I time my application if I'm on OPT and targeting Qualcomm?
If your OPT expires before October 1 and you're counting on an H-1B cap-subject approval, you need a job offer in hand before the USCIS registration window opens in March. Qualcomm's hiring cycles for Software Engineers can run two to four months from application to offer, so targeting roles in November through January gives you the best chance of aligning an offer with the H-1B registration period.
