Align your portfolio to Qualcomm's platform stack
Qualcomm Performance Engineer roles consistently require proficiency in CPU or GPU microarchitecture, power-performance tradeoffs, and toolchains like Simpoint or performance counters. Tailor your portfolio to show optimization work on ARM-based or mobile SoC platforms specifically.
Verify Qualcomm's LCA filings before applying
Search the DOL's FLAG system for Qualcomm's Labor Condition Applications under 'Computer Occupations' to confirm which office locations are actively filing for Performance Engineer roles. San Diego and Raleigh appear most frequently for this function.
Clarify your visa category early in interviews
Qualcomm sponsors multiple visa types including H-1B, TN, and F-1 OPT. If you're on OPT, confirm with the recruiter whether the role timeline accommodates your OPT expiration and whether STEM OPT extension is factored into their onboarding window.
Understand cap-gap protections if you're transitioning
If your OPT expires before October 1 and Qualcomm files your H-1B petition before April 1, USCIS cap-gap rules let you keep working without interruption. Confirm your I-20 end date and work with Qualcomm's immigration team to time the filing correctly.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Performance Engineer openings at Qualcomm
Filter by role and sponsorship type on Migrate Mate to surface active Performance Engineer listings at Qualcomm that are open to visa candidates, saving time you'd otherwise spend screening postings that exclude international applicants.
Prepare for PERM if targeting permanent residency
Qualcomm has a track record of sponsoring EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for engineering roles. PERM labor certification requires DOL approval before your employer can file an I-140, so ask your recruiter during offer negotiations whether the role is eligible for immigrant visa sponsorship.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Qualcomm sponsor H-1B visas for Performance Engineers?
Yes, Qualcomm sponsors H-1B visas for Performance Engineers. The company participates in the annual H-1B lottery each April and files petitions for qualifying roles across its engineering divisions. If you're already in H-1B visa status with another employer, Qualcomm can also file an H-1B transfer, which lets you start work as soon as USCIS receives the petition.
How do I apply for Performance Engineer jobs at Qualcomm?
Apply directly through Qualcomm's careers portal and filter by engineering discipline. Roles are listed by team, including modem, CPU, GPU, and platform performance. You can also browse open Performance Engineer positions at Qualcomm that are verified for visa sponsorship through Migrate Mate, which filters listings specifically for international candidates.
Which visa types does Qualcomm commonly use for Performance Engineer roles?
Qualcomm sponsors H-1B and H-1B1 visas for most Performance Engineer hires, along with F-1 OPT and STEM OPT extensions for recent graduates. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering classifications. For longer-term immigration, Qualcomm also sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for experienced engineers.
What qualifications does Qualcomm expect for Performance Engineer roles?
Qualcomm Performance Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's or master's degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or computer science. Hands-on experience with CPU or GPU microarchitecture, profiling tools, and system-level performance analysis is expected. Roles at the senior level often require demonstrated experience with power-performance optimization on mobile or embedded platforms.
How do I navigate the visa process timeline when accepting a Qualcomm offer?
Timeline depends on your current status. H-1B cap cases must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start, so offers extended in late winter or spring need fast turnaround on paperwork. OPT candidates should track their OPT end date closely. Qualcomm works with outside immigration counsel, but you're responsible for ensuring your documents, transcripts, and employment verification are ready when requested.
