Align your experience with Qualcomm's partner ecosystem
Qualcomm's BD roles in media and entertainment focus on licensing deals, content platform partnerships, and chipset integration agreements. Frame your resume around partnership revenue outcomes and ecosystem expansion, not just sales volume or account management.
Prepare your specialty occupation documentation early
H-1B approval for BD Directors hinges on demonstrating that a bachelor's degree in a specific field is the normal minimum for the role. Gather transcripts, degree equivalency evaluations, and job description language that ties strategic business development to your field of study before any offer stage.
Confirm OPT authorization covers your expected start date
If you're on F-1 OPT, verify your EAD expiration against Qualcomm's typical offer-to-start timeline. STEM OPT extension applications must be filed with USCIS before your current EAD expires, and Qualcomm must be enrolled in E-Verify as a condition of STEM OPT approval.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Qualcomm's open BD roles
Qualcomm posts Business Development Director openings across multiple business units simultaneously. Use Migrate Mate to surface roles specifically tagged for visa sponsorship so you're targeting positions where sponsorship is already confirmed, not assumed.
Raise visa timing during the offer negotiation stage
H-1B cap-subject petitions are filed in April for an October 1 start. If you're negotiating an offer outside that window and you're cap-subject, discuss a delayed start date or a cap-exempt bridge arrangement with your Qualcomm recruiter before countersigning.
Understand how TN status applies to BD Director roles
Canadian and Mexican nationals can pursue TN status for qualifying management consultant or engineer categories, but BD Director titles often require careful role mapping to a USMCA-listed occupation. Work with Qualcomm's immigration counsel to confirm the job duties align before TN is chosen over H-1B.

Does Qualcomm sponsor H-1B visas for Business Development Directors?
Yes, Qualcomm sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development Director roles. The company maintains an active immigration program and works with outside counsel to file petitions across multiple visa categories. H-1B sponsorship is standard for this function, though cap-subject candidates need to plan around the April lottery window and an October 1 start date.
How do I apply for Business Development Director jobs at Qualcomm?
Applications go through Qualcomm's careers portal at qualcomm.com/careers. Search by job family or business unit, as BD Director roles are distributed across divisions including licensing, chipsets, and technology partnerships. Migrate Mate also surfaces Qualcomm's open Business Development Director positions filtered for visa sponsorship, which helps you target only the roles where sponsorship is confirmed.
Which visa types does Qualcomm commonly use for Business Development Director roles?
Qualcomm sponsors H-1B and H-1B1 visas most frequently for this function. For candidates on F-1 status, OPT and CPT are recognized bridge options ahead of an H-1B filing. Canadian and Mexican nationals may be considered for TN status if the role duties map to a qualifying USMCA occupation. EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship is available for longer-term employment transitions.
What qualifications does Qualcomm expect for Business Development Director candidates?
Qualcomm typically expects a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science, business, or a closely related field, with significant experience managing complex technology partnerships or licensing agreements. For H-1B purposes, the degree field must align with the specific BD function. Experience in semiconductor, media technology, or content platform ecosystems is consistently reflected in Qualcomm's BD Director postings.
How do I time a visa transfer or new petition if I already hold H-1B status?
If you're transferring an existing H-1B to Qualcomm, portability rules allow you to start work once Qualcomm files the transfer petition, without waiting for USCIS approval. The petition should be filed before your current employer's authorization period ends. Qualcomm's immigration team typically coordinates filing timelines with your projected start date, so flag your current status details early in the offer process.
