Frame your credentials around specialty occupation standards
KPMG's immigration team files H-1B petitions under specialty occupation requirements, so your resume and credentials need to clearly tie your degree field to the Business Development Director function. A generalist background without a defined discipline can slow petition approvals.
Target KPMG's industry-aligned business development teams
KPMG structures business development around service lines like Audit, Tax, and Advisory. Applying to a team where your sector experience matches their growth targets makes sponsorship easier to justify internally, since the hiring case doubles as the petition narrative.
Ask where the role sits in KPMG's sponsorship approval chain
Large professional services firms route sponsorship decisions through HR, legal, and practice leadership. Confirm during the offer stage whether the specific practice group has pre-approved sponsorship for this role level, so you don't lose weeks waiting on internal escalations.
Understand how KPMG handles PERM-based permanent residency
If long-term sponsorship is your goal, ask during negotiations whether KPMG initiates PERM labor certification for Director-level hires. The DOL's PERM process has multi-month timelines, and starting that conversation before signing gives you a clearer path to a Green Card.
Use Migrate Mate to identify which KPMG offices are actively hiring
KPMG posts Business Development Director openings across metro markets at different times. Migrate Mate filters active openings by role and sponsorship type, so you can prioritize the locations and practice lines with current demand rather than applying to stale listings.
Time your H-1B cap filing around KPMG's recruitment calendar
If you're subject to the H-1B cap, USCIS opens registration in March for an October 1 start date. Aligning your KPMG offer timeline to land before February gives the firm's immigration counsel enough runway to prepare and submit your registration without rushing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does KPMG sponsor H-1B visas for Business Development Directors?
Yes, KPMG sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development Directors and has an established immigration program managed through its internal legal and HR teams. Sponsorship is typically approved at the practice leadership level, so confirming support early in the hiring process is the most reliable way to avoid delays once an offer is extended.
How do I apply for Business Development Director jobs at KPMG?
You can apply through KPMG's careers portal, but many openings are also listed on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for roles where visa sponsorship is available. When applying, tailor your materials to the specific service line since KPMG's business development function is organized by practice area, and a generalist application is less likely to advance.
Which visa types does KPMG commonly use for Business Development Director hires?
KPMG sponsors H-1B visas for most international hires in this function. Australian citizens are frequently sponsored on the E-3 visa, which bypasses the H-1B lottery and allows faster onboarding. For candidates on an existing H-1B with a prior employer, KPMG can file an H-1B transfer, letting you start work as soon as the receipt notice is issued by USCIS.
What qualifications does KPMG expect for a Business Development Director role?
KPMG typically expects a bachelor's degree in business, finance, marketing, or a related field, along with substantial client-facing experience in a professional services or B2B environment. Director-level candidates are generally expected to bring an existing network within a specific industry vertical and a track record of managing complex sales cycles or account growth strategies.
How do I think about the timeline from offer to work authorization at KPMG?
For an H-1B transfer, USCIS issues a receipt notice within a few weeks and you can start work immediately after filing. For cap-subject H-1B petitions, the October 1 start date creates a gap that KPMG's immigration team can sometimes bridge through OPT or other interim status. E-3 visa applicants generally move faster since consular processing at Australian posts typically takes two to four weeks after the interview.
