Align your credentials to Google's engineering ladder
Google's Engineering roles map to a defined leveling system from L3 to L7 and above. Before applying, identify which level matches your experience so your resume speaks to the scope and impact expectations at that specific level.
Target teams known for visa-friendly hiring
Google's Search, Cloud, and AI divisions consistently file for H-1B, H-1B1, and E-3 visas. Search DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data to see which Google offices and job titles have the strongest recent sponsorship history before you target specific teams.
Prepare your specialty occupation documentation early
USCIS requires your Engineering role to qualify as a specialty occupation. Gather your degree transcripts, any credential evaluations for non-U.S. degrees, and documentation linking your specific field of study to the Engineering job description before your offer stage.
Understand Google's H-1B lottery timing constraints
If you need a cap-subject H-1B, USCIS registration opens in March for an October 1 start date. A Google offer made after April with no existing work authorization means you'll wait up to 18 months before starting unless you qualify for a cap-exempt pathway.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Engineering roles at Google
Google posts Engineering positions across dozens of specializations simultaneously and hiring moves quickly. Use Migrate Mate to filter open Google Engineering jobs by visa type so you're applying only to roles where your specific sponsorship category is supported.

Find Engineering at Google JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Google sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, Google sponsors H-1B visas for Engineering roles and has done so consistently across its U.S. offices. Google's internal immigration team manages the process alongside outside counsel. If you're on OPT or need a cap-subject H-1B, Google will file your petition during the annual USCIS registration window in March for an October 1 start date.
Which visa types does Google sponsor for Engineering roles?
Google sponsors H-1B visas for most Engineering hires requiring work authorization. Australian citizens in qualifying Engineering roles can be sponsored for the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and can be filed year-round. Google also sponsors H-1B1 visas for citizens of Singapore and Chile. All three visa types require your Engineering role to meet USCIS specialty occupation standards.
What qualifications does Google expect for sponsored Engineering roles?
Most Engineering roles at Google require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, or a directly related technical field. Senior and staff-level roles expect demonstrated impact at scale, often validated through Google's structured interview process covering algorithms, system design, and domain-specific knowledge. Your degree field must align with the role for USCIS specialty occupation approval.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Google?
Browse open Engineering positions filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate to identify roles aligned with your work authorization needs. Apply through Google's careers portal with a resume that reflects Google's leveling expectations. Google's interview process for Engineering roles typically includes a recruiter screen, technical phone interviews, and an onsite or virtual loop before an offer is extended.
How do I time my Engineering job search at Google around visa deadlines?
If you need a cap-subject H-1B, USCIS registration closes in late March and approved petitions start October 1. Target a Google offer by February to give your immigration team enough time to prepare. If you're on OPT with a STEM extension, you have more flexibility, but you should still factor in USCIS H-1B processing timelines of three to six months without premium processing.
