Align your portfolio with Google's TPM framework
Google evaluates Project Development Managers against its Technical Program Manager competency model. Document projects where you drove ambiguous, large-scale initiatives end-to-end. Reviewers look for scope, complexity, and measurable outcomes, not just delivery titles.
Target Google teams with active international hiring
Google's infrastructure, cloud, and Platforms and Ecosystems orgs historically file LCAs for Project Development Manager roles at higher rates. Search DOL's LCA disclosure data to identify which Google cost centers are actively sponsoring before applying.
Confirm your visa category matches the role level
Google sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, and E-3 visas for this function, but the category determines your timeline and renewal path. Australians on E-3 avoid the lottery entirely. Clarify which petition Google will file before accepting an offer to avoid surprises at the I-129 stage.
Prepare your degree equivalency documentation early
Google's Project Development Manager roles typically require a bachelor's in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field. If your degree is non-U.S., get a credential evaluation from a NACES-member organization before your interview loop, not after the offer.
Understand Google's cap-gap exposure if you're on OPT
If you're transitioning from F-1 OPT and Google files your H-1B after your EAD expires, the 240-day cap-gap rule lets you keep working while USCIS adjudicates. Confirm Google will use premium processing to reduce adjudication risk before your OPT end date.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Google sponsor H-1B visas for Project Development Managers?
Yes, Google sponsors H-1B visas for Project Development Manager roles. Google participates in the annual H-1B lottery each April for cap-subject candidates and also files cap-exempt petitions where applicable. The role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation given its technical degree requirements. If you're already in valid H-1B visa status with another employer, Google can file an H-1B transfer and you can start once USCIS issues a receipt notice.
How do I apply for Project Development Manager jobs at Google?
Applications go through Google's careers portal. The interview process for Project Development Manager roles typically includes a recruiter screen, a technical program management assessment, and a series of structured interviews covering execution, cross-functional influence, and technical scoping. Sponsorship conversations happen during the offer stage, so confirm your visa situation with your recruiter early. You can also browse open roles filtered by sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate before applying directly.
Which visa types does Google commonly use for Project Development Manager roles?
Google sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, and E-3 visas for Project Development Manager positions. H-1B is the most broadly available and covers most nationalities, but it requires lottery selection for cap-subject candidates. H-1B1 applies to Chilean and Singaporean nationals and is not subject to the general lottery. E-3 is available only to Australian citizens and has a separate annual cap that has never been fully utilized, making it a more predictable path.
What qualifications does Google expect for a sponsored Project Development Manager?
Google's Project Development Manager roles typically require a bachelor's degree in a technical field such as computer science, electrical engineering, or a related discipline, along with substantial experience managing complex, multi-team software or hardware programs. Strong candidates demonstrate experience driving programs in ambiguous environments at scale. For visa sponsorship purposes, your degree must support the specialty occupation classification USCIS applies to the H-1B or E-3 petition.
How do I manage the timing between Google's offer and my visa filing?
Once Google extends an offer, your immigration team will file the Labor Condition Application with the DOL, which must be certified before the visa petition can be submitted. For H-1B, the cap-subject window opens each April with an October 1 start date, so timing your offer relative to the lottery cycle matters. E-3 and H-1B1 visa petitions can be filed year-round without lottery constraints. Factor in 3 to 5 months for standard processing unless Google requests premium processing through USCIS.
