Align your credentials to Google's engineering ladder
Google evaluates Development Manager candidates against its internal engineering levels. Frame your resume around team scope, technical depth, and delivery outcomes rather than titles alone. Google's leveling criteria appear in published research and engineering blog posts.
Target teams with active international hiring patterns
Google's Cloud and Platforms divisions have historically filed more LCAs for engineering management roles than consumer product teams. Search DOL's OFLC disclosure data by employer and job title to identify which Google offices and functions file for Development Manager positions most consistently.
Prepare for a multi-round technical leadership process
Google's hiring loop for Development Managers typically includes a behavioral round, a system design discussion, and a people management scenario. Sponsorship conversations rarely surface until an offer is extended, so prioritize clearing the loop before raising visa questions.
Verify LCA certification before your start date
USCIS cannot approve an H-1B or E-3 petition without a certified Labor Condition Application from DOL. Ask your Google recruiter or in-house immigration contact to confirm the LCA is filed and certified in advance, since delays there can push back your actual start date.
Understand E-3 renewal flexibility if you're Australian
Australian citizens on an E-3 can renew indefinitely in two-year increments as long as the role and employer remain qualifying. If Google's team structure shifts during your tenure, confirm with their immigration team that any role change still meets the specialty occupation standard before renewal.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Development Manager roles
Search Migrate Mate to filter Google's open Development Manager positions by visa type, so you can focus your applications on roles where sponsorship for your specific category is actively offered rather than assumed.

Find Development Manager at Google JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Google sponsor H-1B visas for Development Managers?
Yes, Google sponsors H-1B visas for Development Manager roles on a regular basis. The company has a dedicated internal immigration team that manages petitions through each stage, from Labor Condition Application filing with DOL through USCIS adjudication. Sponsorship is typically confirmed during the offer stage, not before, so focus on clearing Google's interview process first.
Which visa types does Google commonly use for Development Manager roles?
Google files H-1B, H-1B1, and E-3 petitions for Development Manager positions. H-1B is the most broadly applicable and covers the widest range of nationalities. H-1B1 is available exclusively to Chilean and Singaporean nationals, while E-3 is limited to Australian citizens. All three require the role to qualify as a specialty occupation, which engineering management roles at Google consistently meet.
What qualifications does Google expect for a Development Manager role?
Google typically looks for a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field, combined with direct experience managing engineering teams. Candidates are assessed on technical depth, cross-functional delivery experience, and people leadership scope. For senior levels, experience leading multiple teams or driving large-scale platform decisions carries significant weight in the evaluation.
How do I apply for Development Manager jobs at Google?
Browse open Development Manager positions on Migrate Mate to filter specifically for roles at Google that offer visa sponsorship for your category. Once you identify a match, apply directly through Google's careers portal. Tailor your resume to Google's engineering leadership criteria and be prepared for a structured interview process covering system design, people management, and behavioral scenarios before any offer is extended.
How do I plan my timeline around Google's visa sponsorship process?
The H-1B cap-subject process runs on a fixed annual cycle: USCIS opens registration in March, conducts the lottery in late March, and an approved petition can't take effect until October 1. If you're hired outside that window, Google may use cap-exempt options or bridge your status through other means. Build at least six months of runway into your planning, and confirm your current status expiration date before accepting an offer.
