Align your credentials to U.S. accounting standards
Google's finance team operates under U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements. If your credentials are from outside the U.S., get a formal equivalency evaluation so your application reflects that your qualifications meet American standards before you apply.
Target roles in Google's controllership and technical accounting teams
Google posts accountant openings across revenue recognition, close and consolidation, and technical accounting policy. These functions have recurring headcount needs and historically support visa sponsorship, making them more predictable targets than project-based finance roles.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Google accountant openings by visa type
Not every Google finance posting signals sponsorship willingness upfront. Use Migrate Mate to filter accountant roles at Google specifically by H-1B, H-1B1 visa, or E-3 sponsorship so you're only applying to positions where your visa category is already supported.
Understand how Google structures the LCA filing
Before Google files your H-1B petition with USCIS, it must certify a Labor Condition Application with the DOL confirming your offered wage meets the prevailing wage for your location. Expect this step to take one to two weeks and factor it into your start date planning.
Prepare for a multi-round technical finance interview
Google's accountant interviews typically include a technical accounting round covering topics like ASC 606, lease accounting under ASC 842, and consolidation. Coming in with documented examples of complex accounting judgments you've made significantly strengthens your candidacy.
Negotiate your offer timeline around visa transfer deadlines
If you're transferring an existing H-1B to Google, portability under USCIS rules allows you to start once the petition is filed, not just approved. Confirm with Google's immigration team that the I-129 will be filed before your current status expires.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Google sponsor H-1B visas for Accountants?
Yes, Google sponsors H-1B visas for Accountant roles. Accounting positions at Google qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards because they require at least a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field. Google works with in-house immigration counsel to manage H-1B filings, including cap-subject petitions and transfers from other employers.
Which visa types does Google sponsor for Accountant roles?
Google sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, and E-3 visas for Accountant positions. The H-1B is the most common path for non-Australian, non-Chilean or Singaporean nationals. Australian citizens can pursue the E-3, which has no lottery and allows direct consular processing. Chilean and Singaporean nationals may qualify for the H-1B1. All three classifications support specialty occupation accounting work.
How do I apply for Accountant jobs at Google?
Applications go through Google's careers portal at careers.google.com. Search for finance or accounting roles filtered by location and level. Tailor your resume to highlight U.S. GAAP experience, specific accounting standards you've worked under, and any exposure to large-scale close processes or audit coordination. Roles in technical accounting, controllership, and revenue recognition tend to have the most consistent openings requiring sponsorship.
What qualifications does Google expect for Accountant roles?
Google typically expects a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, with CPA licensure preferred for mid-to-senior roles. Relevant experience includes close and consolidation, technical accounting research, or financial reporting under U.S. GAAP. Familiarity with large ERP systems and experience in a Big Four public accounting firm or a multinational technology company are common backgrounds among successful candidates. You can browse open roles filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate.
How do I estimate the timeline from offer to work authorization at Google?
If you're transferring an existing H-1B, portability under USCIS rules means you can start once Google files the I-129, not after approval, which can shorten the gap to a few weeks. For new cap-subject H-1B petitions, the earliest start date is October 1 of the fiscal year following the April lottery. E-3 applicants can move faster through consular processing, often within four to six weeks of receiving a job offer.
