Align your credentials to fund accounting
Blackstone's accounting roles skew heavily toward fund-level work, not standard corporate accounting. Frame your resume around NAV calculations, carried interest, or LP reporting rather than general ledger or AP experience to match what their hiring teams are actually screening for.
Target the right internal accounting teams
Blackstone structures accounting across distinct business lines including real estate, private equity, and credit. Applying to a role in the business unit that matches your asset class experience gives your application a stronger technical fit before sponsorship even enters the conversation.
Use Migrate Mate to identify open accounting roles
Blackstone posts accountant openings across multiple business units and seniority levels. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Blackstone accounting positions that include visa sponsorship, so you're applying to the right openings without sorting through roles that won't support your status.
Clarify your OPT or CPT timeline early
If you're on F-1 OPT, Blackstone's HR team will need to align your start date and cap-gap window with their H-1B filing calendar. Confirming your STEM OPT extension eligibility before your offer stage avoids a timeline conflict that can stall or kill the process.
Understand how PERM affects your timeline
For permanent residency through EB-2 or EB-3, your employer files a PERM labor certification with DOL before sponsoring your Green Card petition. In accounting roles at investment firms, PERM audits are common, so a realistic timeline from job offer to Green Card approval can span several years.
Prepare for a technical interview that tests alternative assets
Blackstone's accounting interviews for fund roles typically go beyond GAAP fundamentals into fair value measurement, waterfall structures, and consolidation of investment vehicles. Preparing worked examples from your experience with these topics signals you can contribute from day one without a long ramp-up.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Blackstone sponsor H-1B visas for Accountants?
Yes, Blackstone sponsors H-1B visas for Accountant roles. The firm has a documented history of filing H-1B petitions for accounting professionals across its business units. Because H-1B sponsorship depends on your specific role and status at the time of hire, you should raise the topic directly with your recruiter once you reach the offer stage to confirm the path they'll support.
How do I apply for Accountant jobs at Blackstone?
Applications go through Blackstone's careers portal on their official website. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse Blackstone accountant openings filtered specifically for visa-sponsored positions, which saves time if you're only looking for roles where international candidates are considered. Tailor your application to the specific business unit, whether real estate, private equity, or credit, since each has distinct accounting workflows.
Which visa types does Blackstone typically use for Accountant roles?
Blackstone sponsors several visa categories for accounting professionals, including H-1B, H-1B1 visa for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican citizens under the USMCA, F-1 OPT and CPT for current students, and J-1 visa for exchange visitors. For permanent residency, the firm has sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 petitions for accountants progressing through the Green Card process.
What qualifications does Blackstone expect for Accountant roles?
Blackstone's accounting roles in asset management typically require a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, with a CPA or progress toward one viewed favorably. For fund accounting positions, direct experience with alternative investment structures such as private equity funds, real estate vehicles, or credit portfolios carries more weight than general corporate accounting backgrounds. Strong Excel and financial systems proficiency is consistently expected.
How do I plan my timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship from Blackstone?
H-1B petitions are filed once a year with USCIS, with registrations opening in March and an employment start date of October 1 if selected. If you're on F-1 OPT, you'll need enough remaining OPT time to bridge to that start date, or a STEM OPT extension to cover the gap. Coordinating your offer timing with Blackstone's HR team several months before the March registration window gives both sides the best chance of a clean transition.
