INTRODUCTION
Figma is growing our team of passionate creatives and builders on a mission to make design accessible to all. Figma’s platform helps teams bring ideas to life—whether you're brainstorming, creating a prototype, translating designs into code, or iterating with AI. From idea to product, Figma empowers teams to streamline workflows, move faster, and work together in real time from anywhere in the world. If you're excited to shape the future of design and collaboration, join us! Figma's AI Tools team builds the AI-powered workflows, platforms, and tooling that make every engineer at the company more productive. From agentic CI auto-fixing and AI-assisted code review to background cloud agents that turn a Slack message into a pull request, this team owns the systems that are transforming how Figma builds software. The team operates across a three-layer platform stack—sandbox runtime, cloud agents, and workflow orchestration—while shipping and maintaining a growing portfolio of org-wide developer workflows that compound across hundreds of engineers. This is a full time role that can be held from one of our US hubs or remotely in the United States.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
What you’ll do at Figma:
- Lead and grow a team of engineers responsible for building and operating Figma's AI developer workflows and the cloud agent platform that powers them
- Own the technical strategy and roadmap for AI Developer Experience, spanning sandbox runtime infrastructure, cloud agent reliability, workflow orchestration, and org-wide agentic workflows
- Hire and scale the team - establishing team culture, execution cadence, and operational processes from the ground up
- Drive the reliability, observability, and scalability of our cloud agent platform, ensuring it meets production-grade standards as adoption grows across the engineering organization
- Partner with product engineering, security, infrastructure, and DevEx teams to identify the highest-leverage opportunities for AI-assisted developer workflows and drive adoption
- Evaluate and integrate emerging AI tools, models, and agent frameworks, making strategic bets on which capabilities to build versus buy
- Establish evaluation frameworks to measure the quality, cost, and impact of AI-generated code and agentic workflows across the organization
- Coach and mentor engineers through career development, performance feedback, and technical leadership, fostering a culture of ownership, speed, and high-quality execution
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
- 3+ years of experience managing infrastructure, platform, or developer experience engineering teams, with a track record of scaling teams and delivering high-performing systems
- Strong software engineering background, with Staff-level or above technical depth before moving into management with deep understanding of distributed systems, platform architecture, and the operational challenges of running production infrastructure at scale
- Demonstrated fluency with AI/ML systems, LLM-based workflows, or agent architectures - as a builder, not just a consumer - with the ability to reason about tradeoffs in nondeterministic systems
- Experience hiring, onboarding, and growing engineering teams in fast-paced, high-growth environments
- Ability to set technical direction, drive cross-functional alignment, and make sound architectural decisions while balancing speed of execution with long-term sustainability
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
While not required, it’s an added plus if you also have:
- Direct experience building AI developer tooling, agent platforms, or AI-assisted engineering workflows
- Familiarity with agent frameworks such as Cursor, Claude Code, or similar background agent systems, including MCP (Model Context Protocol) integrations
- Experience with workflow orchestration platforms such as Temporal, n8n, or Tines for multi-stage automation
- Background in developer experience platforms including CI/CD systems, build tools (Bazel/Blaze), or large polyglot monorepo environments
- Experience building evaluation and quality frameworks for AI-generated outputs

Align your portfolio to Figma's stack
Figma builds heavily in TypeScript, Rust, and WebAssembly. Before applying, make sure your public projects or portfolio reflect experience in these areas so your technical screen isn't your first introduction to the stack.
Confirm your visa type before applying
Figma sponsors H-1B, E-3, and H-1B1 visas, so Australians and Singaporeans have pathways outside the H-1B lottery. Knowing which category applies to you before your recruiter screen lets you address sponsorship directly and confidently.
Target roles where sponsorship history is strongest
Use Migrate Mate to filter Figma's open engineering roles by visa type and identify which teams and job titles have the most active sponsorship history, so you're applying where your visa situation is already a known fit.
Prepare for the specialty occupation question early
USCIS requires H-1B roles to qualify as specialty occupations, meaning a specific bachelor's degree field must be a normal requirement for the position. Review Figma's job descriptions carefully and document how your degree field maps directly to the role's core duties.
Ask about PERM timing during the offer stage
If you're targeting a Green Card, ask your recruiter whether Figma initiates PERM labor certification for engineering roles and roughly when that process typically begins after hire. Some companies start within the first year; others wait longer.
Account for F-1 OPT gaps in your timeline
If you're on OPT, your 60-day grace period after a job ends is firm under USCIS rules. Time your Figma application and any transitions so you have enough runway to complete the offer and onboarding process without a gap in authorized status.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Figma sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, Figma sponsors H-1B visas for engineering roles. The company has a consistent record of filing H-1B petitions across a range of engineering functions, from product engineering to infrastructure. If you're subject to the H-1B lottery, timing your application around the April cap season is essential. Figma also sponsors E-3 visas for Australian citizens and H-1B1 visas for Singaporean and Chilean nationals, which bypass the lottery entirely.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Figma?
Figma posts open engineering roles on its careers page. The process typically includes a recruiter screen, a technical assessment or take-home, and multiple rounds of system design and coding interviews. Raise your visa sponsorship needs with the recruiter in the first call so there are no surprises at the offer stage. Figma's recruiting team is familiar with sponsorship requirements, so a direct conversation early usually goes smoothly.
Which visa types does Figma sponsor for Engineering roles?
Figma sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, and E-3 visas for temporary work authorization, and supports EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories for engineers pursuing a Green Card. F-1 OPT is also accepted, meaning recent graduates with valid work authorization can join before a full H-1B petition is filed. The right visa pathway depends on your nationality, degree, and career timeline.
What qualifications does Figma expect for sponsored Engineering roles?
Most Figma engineering roles require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. This isn't just a hiring preference; it's directly relevant to H-1B specialty occupation requirements under USCIS rules. Beyond credentials, Figma's interviews assess system design depth, proficiency in languages like TypeScript or Rust, and experience building at scale. Mid-to-senior level engineers tend to have the strongest sponsorship outcomes here.
How do I find the right Engineering roles at Figma to target as a visa holder?
Migrate Mate lets you browse Figma's open engineering positions filtered specifically by visa type, so you can see which roles are actively sponsored and match your work authorization category. This saves time compared to applying broadly and finding out late in the process that a role or team isn't set up for sponsorship. Filtering by role type and visa category before you apply is the most efficient way to focus your search.
