INTRODUCTION
Figma is growing our team of passionate creatives and builders on a mission to make design accessible to all. Figma’s platform helps teams bring ideas to life—whether you're brainstorming, creating a prototype, translating designs into code, or iterating with AI. From idea to product, Figma empowers teams to streamline workflows, move faster, and work together in real time from anywhere in the world. If you're excited to shape the future of design and collaboration, join us! Figma's platform helps teams bring ideas to life — and Data Science is central to how we measure, improve, and scale it. We're on a mission to make data self-serve for every Figmate: moving from a world where every data question requires filing a request to a DS or DE, to one where anyone can ask a question in plain language and get a trustworthy answer in minutes. We're hiring Figma's first dedicated Technical Program Manager for Data Science to own that mission — driving our multi-phase Self-Serve Analytics program from semantic layer expansion through the Figma Data Assistant, while building the operational foundation for a growing DS org. This is a full time role that can be held from one of our US hubs or remotely in the United States.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
What you'll do at Figma:
- Own end-to-end program delivery for Figma's Self-Serve Analytics initiative that includes semantic layer expansion, Slack bot launch, automated eval framework, and the Figma Data Assistant
- Coordinate delivery across Data Engineering, DS ICs, Security, IT, and business stakeholders (Sales, Product, Finance, Research) to expand self-serve data coverage and drive adoption
- Lead the governance and security work stream: work with Security and IT on LLM data access policies, PII guardrails, access controls, and LLM provider approvals
- Drive adoption and change management — build champion networks, run training programs, and meet Figmates where they work (Slack, Notion) to shift from request-based to self-serve data culture
- Build and maintain DS org operations: planning cycles, headcount tracking, onboarding programs, and team rhythms for a growing org
- Own program-level success metrics: % of data questions answered via self-serve, time-to-insight, DS ad-hoc request volume reduction
- Work closely with peer TPMs & Data Scientists (AI, Infra, Performance) to coordinate on overlapping platform programs and shared data infrastructure needs
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
- 5+ years of technical program management experience (or equivalent) driving data infrastructure, analytics platform, or data democratization programs
- Hands-on experience with modern data stacks: you're comfortable discussing semantic layers, data catalogs, BI tooling (Hex, Sigma), and AI-powered query interfaces (Cortex Analyst, RAG) at a program level
- A track record of driving adoption — not just shipping internal tools, but changing behavior across technical and non-technical audiences through change management, enablement, and champion programs
- Strong cross-functional program delivery: planning, dependency management, stakeholder alignment across deeply distributed teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
While it's not required, it's an added plus if you also have:
- Hands-on familiarity with dbt, Snowflake Semantic Views, Acryl, Dagster, or similar data engineering tooling
- Experience building or scaling eval frameworks for AI-generated outputs (golden SQL, accuracy dashboards, regression detection)
- Background in data-driven product analytics or developer tools — understanding of how DS ICs work with PMs and EMs and driving alignment on requirements
- Strong bias to action, self-motivation and curiosity, with a desire to bring people together in a fast-paced environment
At Figma, one of our values is Grow as you go. We believe in hiring smart, curious people who are excited to learn and develop their skills. If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with the points outlined in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.

Align your portfolio with Figma's engineering culture
Figma's Technical Manager roles emphasize cross-functional leadership in product-led engineering environments. Frame your experience around shipping developer tooling, design infrastructure, or platform work, since generic management experience is less competitive here than domain-specific technical leadership.
Confirm your visa category before applying
Figma sponsors H-1B, E-3, and H-1B1 visas for Technical Managers. If you're Australian or a qualifying TN visa-eligible national, lead with that in recruiter conversations since those pathways skip the H-1B lottery and can move faster through the offer stage.
Request an early recruiter conversation about sponsorship timing
H-1B cap-subject filings lock to an October 1 start date. If you're mid-job-search in Q3, ask the recruiter whether a cap-exempt or change-of-status path is available so your offer timeline doesn't collide with an annual cap deadline.
Prepare your specialty occupation documentation proactively
USCIS scrutinizes Technical Manager petitions for specialty occupation eligibility. Gather transcripts, your degree equivalency if your credential is non-U.S., and a detailed job duty breakdown that maps your specific work to a required field of study before your employer's attorney contacts you.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Technical Manager roles at Figma
Figma posts Technical Manager openings across multiple teams and locations at different times of year. Use Migrate Mate to filter for Figma roles that explicitly confirm visa sponsorship so you're applying to live opportunities, not stale listings that no longer reflect current headcount.
Understand PERM timing if you're targeting a Green Card
Figma sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards, but PERM labor certification typically takes 12 to 18 months before the I-140 petition stage. If you're approaching the six-year H-1B limit, raise Green Card timelines with your employer contact early so extensions and I-140 approvals align.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Figma sponsor H-1B visas for Technical Managers?
Yes, Figma sponsors H-1B visas for Technical Manager roles. If you're subject to the annual H-1B cap, USCIS registration typically opens in March for an October 1 start date, so offer timing matters. Figma also sponsors H-1B1 visa and E-3 visas, which bypass the lottery entirely for qualifying nationals.
Which visa types does Figma commonly sponsor for Technical Manager roles?
Figma sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, E-3, and F-1 OPT extensions for nonimmigrant work authorization. For permanent residence, the company supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways. Australians and Singaporean nationals have additional options through E-3 and H-1B1 visa, respectively, which can accelerate timelines compared to the H-1B lottery process.
What qualifications does Figma expect for Technical Manager roles?
Figma's Technical Manager positions typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field, plus demonstrated experience managing software engineering teams. Hands-on experience with product-led or platform engineering environments carries weight, as does a track record of shipping at scale in collaborative tooling or developer infrastructure contexts.
How do I apply for Technical Manager jobs at Figma?
You can browse open Technical Manager roles on Figma's careers page or use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Figma positions that confirm visa sponsorship. When applying, tailor your resume to reflect cross-functional engineering leadership and technical depth. Recruiter screens at Figma typically assess both people management experience and hands-on technical background before moving to a panel interview.
How do I plan my visa timeline when targeting a Technical Manager role at Figma?
Timing depends on your current status and visa category. H-1B cap-subject candidates need a registration selected by April and can't start before October 1. E-3 and H-1B1 visa applicants have more flexibility since there's no lottery. If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your OPT expiration date against the offer timeline so your employer can file before your authorization lapses.
