Align your credentials to Apple's engineering ladder
Apple's Technical Manager roles map to specific internal levels that require demonstrated leadership over hardware or software teams. Frame your resume around team scope, product cycles shipped, and engineering headcount managed, not just individual technical contributions.
Target roles tied to Apple's core hardware divisions
Openings in iPhone, Mac silicon, or AirPods engineering are more likely to have active headcount and sponsorship appetite than support functions. Filtering by product line in your search surfaces roles where Apple is actively building out leadership capacity.
Clarify your visa category before the offer stage
Apple sponsors multiple visa types for Technical Managers, including H-1B, E-3, and TN. Knowing which category fits your citizenship before you reach the offer stage lets you have an informed conversation with the recruiter instead of losing time after signing.
Prepare for the LCA prevailing wage requirement early
Apple must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL certifying your offered salary meets prevailing wage for the role location. If your offer is in a high-cost market like Cupertino, research the applicable wage level so compensation expectations are aligned before negotiation.
Anticipate USCIS requests for specialty occupation evidence
For H-1B petitions, USCIS sometimes issues Requests for Evidence on whether a Technical Manager role constitutes a specialty occupation. Apple's legal team typically handles this, but having your degree credentials and job description well-documented in advance strengthens the petition.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsored Technical Manager openings
Sponsored roles are not always labeled as such in public job listings. Use Migrate Mate to filter Apple's Technical Manager openings by visa type, so you're applying to positions where sponsorship is already confirmed rather than following up blind after an interview.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Apple sponsor H-1B visas for Technical Managers?
Yes, Apple sponsors H-1B visas for Technical Manager roles. The process involves your employer filing a Labor Condition Application with the DOL and then submitting an I-129 petition to USCIS on your behalf. Because the H-1B is subject to an annual lottery, timing your application relative to Apple's hiring cycle matters. Roles that begin before October 1 may require a cap-exempt bridge or a different visa category.
How do I apply for Technical Manager jobs at Apple?
Applications go through Apple's careers portal, where Technical Manager roles are listed by team and location. Tailoring your application to reflect hardware or software team leadership, product delivery experience, and cross-functional scope gives you the strongest read. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse Apple's open Technical Manager positions filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility before applying directly.
Which visa types does Apple commonly use for Technical Manager roles?
Apple sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, E-3 visa, TN visa, and EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card pathways for Technical Managers, as well as F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates entering the role. Australian citizens frequently use the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and allows two-year renewable periods. Canadian and Mexican nationals often use the TN visa, which covers engineering management roles and can be processed at the border.
What qualifications does Apple expect for Technical Manager candidates?
Apple's Technical Manager roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering, computer science, or a closely related field, plus demonstrated experience leading engineering teams through full product development cycles. Hardware-focused roles often expect familiarity with Apple's product categories, such as silicon, sensing systems, or consumer devices. Leadership experience at the team-of-teams level and cross-functional execution track records carry significant weight in the evaluation.
How do I think about the sponsorship timeline for a Technical Manager role at Apple?
Timeline depends heavily on which visa category applies to you. E-3 and TN petitions can move quickly, often within weeks, while H-1B cap filings are tied to the annual April lottery with an October 1 start date. Green Card sponsorship through PERM is a multi-year process that Apple typically initiates after a period of employment. Knowing your category early lets you coordinate with Apple's immigration team on realistic start dates.
