Description
Apple is seeking an experienced Quality Engineering Manager to lead a QE team operating across a diverse and fast-moving product landscape. This is a second-level role: you will guide and develop a group of managers along with a Technical Directly Responsible Individual (DRI), while keeping key stakeholders informed on quality status, risk, and readiness.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working across multiple product areas and technology stacks, and can communicate clearly and confidently with senior stakeholders - translating quality signals into information they can act on.
Responsibilities
-
Lead through leaders. Manage, coach, and develop a team of QE managers and a Technical DRI, ensuring each has clear priorities, growth support, and the guidance needed to lead their own teams effectively.
-
Own quality strategy for your area. Set direction for test strategy, coverage, and release readiness across your teams' projects - adapting approach as priorities and technology shift.
-
Support automation as a force multiplier. Champion test automation adoption across your teams, and partner with the Technical DRI to keep automation practices consistent, reliable, and scaled to project needs.
-
Manage up effectively. Proactively surface risks, tradeoffs, and status to your leadership chain with clarity and appropriate urgency - before being asked. Frame quality data in terms your stakeholders can act on, and build trust through consistent, transparent communication.
-
Advocate for the team. Stand firm as a supportive advocate for your engineers and managers when negotiating scope, timelines, and resourcing with cross-functional partners - protecting the team's ability to do rigorous, sustainable quality work while still finding workable compromises.
-
Navigate ambiguity and change. Operate confidently in an environment with shifting requirements, tight timelines, and evolving priorities; make sound calls with incomplete information.
-
Cross-functional partnership. Work closely with Engineering, Program Management, and Design partners to embed quality early in the development lifecycle and align on release criteria.
-
Collaborate across teams at Apple. Coordinate with peer QE and engineering teams in other groups to align on shared standards, tools, and dependencies, and to bring in outside best practices.
-
Resource and team planning. Balance headcount, skill mix, and workload across your teams; help identify and close skill gaps, including automation depth.
-
Process and tooling improvement. Help refine test methodologies, defect management, metrics/reporting, and quality gates used across your teams.
-
Talent development. Support the growth of your managers and their engineers; mentor managers on people leadership, technical judgment, and communicating effectively with stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
-
6+ years of experience in Quality Engineering/Quality Assurance, including 2+ years managing managers or leading multiple teams.
-
Experience operating in complex, diverse, and fast-changing technical environments - working across multiple product areas or platforms.
-
Experience supporting or driving test automation adoption within a team.
-
Solid track record of "managing up" - communicating clearly with senior stakeholders, including surfacing difficult status updates and defending quality positions when needed.
-
Experience managing through other managers, including a Technical DRI or equivalent senior IC.
-
Good judgment balancing quality rigor against schedule and business realities.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience at Apple or in a comparable high-bar consumer hardware/software environment.
-
Working knowledge of test automation frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, or scripting/programming (e.g., Python, Swift, or similar).
-
Familiarity with both hardware and software quality disciplines.
-
Experience helping a QE team grow or adapt through organizational change.

Certify Your Metrology and Inspection Credentials
Apple's Quality teams work with highly precise measurement systems and process controls. ASQ certifications like CQT or CQI signal that your credentials meet industry standards and help clear internal recruiter filters before your application reaches a hiring manager.
Target Apple's Advanced Manufacturing Facilities
Quality Technician openings at Apple cluster around its supply chain and hardware operations sites. Filter your search by these locations specifically, as roles tied to physical product lines are far more likely to involve direct sponsorship than those supporting purely software or services functions.
Understand How Apple Files for This Role
Apple sponsors Quality Technicians under H-1B, E-3, and TN classifications depending on your nationality. If you're Australian or Canadian, those pathways move faster than the H-1B lottery. Confirm which category applies to your situation before accepting an offer so there are no surprises at the LCA stage.
Align Your Resume to Apple's Quality Frameworks
Apple's job descriptions for this role frequently reference FMEA, SPC, and ISO 9001 process experience. Tailoring your resume to reflect hands-on experience with these methodologies directly improves your chances of clearing automated screening tools Apple uses during initial review.
Use Migrate Mate to Browse Verified Openings
Quality Technician roles with confirmed sponsorship are scattered across job boards and easy to miss. Use Migrate Mate to filter Apple listings by visa type so you're only applying to positions where sponsorship for your specific category is already confirmed.
Time Your Application Around the H-1B Cap Cycle
If you need H-1B sponsorship, Apple must submit your registration during the USCIS lottery window in March. Starting your job search and interview process by January gives Apple's immigration team enough lead time to prepare your petition before the registration deadline.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Apple sponsor H-1B visas for Quality Technicians?
Yes, Apple sponsors H-1B visas for Quality Technician roles. Because this is a cap-subject category, your start date would be tied to the October 1 fiscal year start following a successful lottery selection. Apple's legal and immigration teams manage the filing process internally, but you'll need to have your degree credentials and job offer finalized well before the March registration window opens.
Which visa types does Apple commonly use for Quality Technician roles?
Apple sponsors Quality Technicians across several visa categories. H-1B is the most common for general international candidates. Australian citizens can pursue the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and allows faster processing. Canadian and Mexican nationals are often eligible for TN visa status. For candidates on F-1 OPT or CPT, Apple accepts those work authorizations for the initial employment period while longer-term sponsorship is arranged.
What qualifications does Apple expect for a Quality Technician role?
Apple typically looks for candidates with an associate's or bachelor's degree in a technical field such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or manufacturing technology, combined with hands-on experience in quality inspection or process control environments. Familiarity with metrology tools, statistical process control, and quality management systems like ISO 9001 is regularly referenced in Apple's job postings for this role. Certifications from ASQ strengthen your profile further.
How do I apply for Quality Technician jobs at Apple?
Applications go through Apple's careers portal at jobs.apple.com, where you can filter by job function and location. To find roles where visa sponsorship is already confirmed for your specific category, Migrate Mate lets you browse Apple's Quality Technician openings filtered by visa type. Once you apply, Apple's process typically includes a recruiter screen, a technical assessment focused on quality methodologies, and panel interviews with the hiring team.
How long does the visa process take after Apple extends a job offer?
Timeline depends on your visa category. TN and E-3 can be processed in weeks, allowing relatively quick start dates. H-1B requires USCIS lottery selection in March with an October 1 start, so the gap between offer and start can be six months or longer. For F-1 OPT holders, you can start sooner while Apple initiates longer-term sponsorship. USCIS premium processing is available for H-1B petitions if a faster adjudication is needed after selection.
