Align your portfolio to Apple's silicon focus
Apple's Architect roles increasingly center on custom silicon, Neural Engine design, and platform integration. Frame your portfolio around low-level hardware-software co-design or SoC architecture to match the technical depth their hiring teams screen for.
Clarify your visa category before applying
Apple sponsors several distinct visa types for Architects, including H-1B, E-3, and TN. Knowing which category fits your nationality before your recruiter screen lets you ask targeted questions and avoids confusion during offer negotiations.
Target roles tied to specific Apple hardware programs
Architect openings at Apple are often tied to active chip development cycles. Applying to roles attached to named product families or platform teams, rather than general postings, puts your application in front of hiring managers with active headcount.
Prepare your specialty occupation evidence early
USCIS requires H-1B petitions to establish that the Architect role qualifies as a specialty occupation. Gather degree transcripts, employer job descriptions citing specific technical requirements, and any professional certifications before Apple's legal team begins petition prep.
Use Migrate Mate to find Apple Architect openings requiring sponsorship
Not every Apple job posting flags visa sponsorship availability. Search Migrate Mate to filter Architect roles at Apple that are open to sponsored candidates, saving time you'd otherwise spend screening listings that exclude international applicants.
Coordinate your start date around H-1B cap timelines
If you're subject to the H-1B cap, USCIS only accepts petitions in early April for an October 1 start date. Align your offer acceptance and notice period with this window so your Apple start date doesn't fall outside your authorized employment period.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Apple sponsor H-1B visas for Architects?
Yes, Apple sponsors H-1B visas for Architect roles. Apple's legal and immigration team manages the petition process internally, which means your employer-side costs and coordination go through Apple's dedicated immigration resources rather than an external agency. If you're cap-subject, timing your offer around the April filing window is essential since H-1B status for new entrants can't begin before October 1.
How do I apply for Architect jobs at Apple?
Applications go through Apple's careers portal at jobs.apple.com. Architect roles are listed under hardware engineering, platform architecture, or silicon design depending on the team. Filtering by role type and location helps narrow results. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse Apple Architect openings that are open to visa-sponsored candidates specifically, which removes the guesswork of screening individual postings.
Which visa types does Apple commonly use for Architect roles?
Apple sponsors H-1B and H-1B1 visas for most international Architects, along with E-3 visas for Australian citizens and TN visa status for Canadian and Mexican nationals. For candidates on F-1 OPT or CPT, Apple supports employment during that period and can file an H-1B petition before OPT expires. Permanent residence pathways through EB-2 or EB-3 PERM are also available for qualifying roles.
What qualifications does Apple expect for Architect roles?
Apple's Architect positions typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science, and the role must meet USCIS's specialty occupation standard for H-1B eligibility. In practice, Apple screens for depth in areas like SoC design, memory subsystems, interconnect architecture, or platform software depending on the team. Relevant industry experience with shipping silicon or large-scale platform products carries significant weight in the evaluation.
How do I understand the timeline from offer to work authorization at Apple?
If you're transferring an existing H-1B, Apple can file a portability petition and you can start working upon receipt notice, typically within a few weeks of filing. New H-1B cap cases follow a fixed government calendar: USCIS accepts petitions in April and employment begins October 1 at the earliest. E-3 and TN processing at a U.S. consulate is typically faster, often resolved within a few weeks of the interview date.
