Tailor your portfolio to Apple's hardware pipeline
Apple Product Engineer roles typically require demonstrated experience in NPI (new product introduction) processes, DFM, or cross-functional product lifecycle work. Showcasing hardware you've shipped, not just designed, signals readiness for Apple's production-scale environment.
Target roles aligned with your visa category
Apple sponsors multiple visa types, including H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT. Identifying which visa applies to your nationality before applying lets you ask informed questions during recruiter screens and avoid mismatches late in the hiring process.
Verify OPT start dates against Apple's offer timeline
Apple's onboarding process for Product Engineers can run several weeks after an offer. If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your authorized start date aligns with Apple's projected start date before signing, since USCIS OPT authorization can't be backdated.
Prepare credential documentation before final interviews
Apple's immigration team will need certified transcripts, degree evaluations for non-U.S. qualifications, and role-specific experience letters to support your visa petition. Having these ready before an offer shortens the time between signing and petition filing.
Understand Apple's LCA obligations before negotiating compensation
Apple files a Labor Condition Application with the DOL for every H-1B or E-3 hire, certifying your wage meets the prevailing level for your role and location. Knowing the applicable wage tier for Product Engineers in Cupertino helps you benchmark your offer accurately.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by visa type
Apple's Product Engineer openings are spread across hardware divisions and locations. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for roles open to your visa category, so you're applying to positions where sponsorship is already part of the hiring plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Apple sponsor H-1B visas for Product Engineers?
Yes, Apple sponsors H-1B visas for Product Engineer roles. Apple participates in the annual H-1B lottery each April for cap-subject candidates. If you're already in H-1B visa status with another employer, Apple can file an H-1B transfer, allowing you to start work as soon as USCIS receives the petition, without waiting for approval.
How do I apply for Product Engineer jobs at Apple?
Applications go through Apple's careers portal at jobs.apple.com. Product Engineer roles at Apple often require hardware-specific experience, so your resume should reflect product lifecycle work, manufacturing processes, or cross-functional NPI contributions. You can also browse Apple's open Product Engineer positions filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate before applying directly through Apple's portal.
Which visa types does Apple commonly use for Product Engineer roles?
Apple sponsors H-1B for most nationalities, E-3 visa for Australian citizens, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals, and H-1B1 visa for citizens of Chile and Singapore. F-1 OPT and CPT are also supported for students in qualifying programs. For longer-term sponsorship, Apple files EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card petitions through the PERM labor certification process with the DOL.
What qualifications does Apple expect for Product Engineer roles?
Most Product Engineer roles at Apple require a bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field. Hands-on experience with DFM, NPI processes, or supplier quality is heavily weighted. Apple's hardware teams work at consumer product scale, so prior experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment is a meaningful differentiator during screening.
How do I time my application around Apple's visa sponsorship process?
If you need H-1B sponsorship and aren't already in status, timing matters. Apple would need to submit your registration during the March lottery window for an October 1 start. For E-3 or TN candidates, processing is faster since those categories aren't lottery-based. Factor in Apple's internal onboarding timeline, which can run four to six weeks after an offer, when planning your application window.
