Align your degree to process engineering
Lam Research Product Engineer roles typically require a degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field. H-1B specialty occupation approval hinges on this match, so confirm your transcript reflects the specific discipline before applying.
Target Fremont and Oregon facility postings
Lam Research concentrates Product Engineer hiring around its Fremont headquarters and Tualatin, Oregon sites. Roles tied to specific fab or R&D facilities often have clearer headcount and faster requisition timelines than roles listed under a general engineering umbrella.
Document equipment and process ownership early
Lam Research interviewers assess hands-on ownership of etch, deposition, or CMP processes. Build a record of specific equipment platforms you have qualified or characterized, since this directly supports the specialty occupation argument USCIS evaluates during H-1B adjudication.
Confirm OPT start date against your offer timeline
F-1 OPT authorization takes up to 90 days from your USCIS application. If your Lam Research offer letter includes a start date, submit your OPT application the moment you are eligible to avoid a gap between graduation and day one on the job.
Ask about PERM initiation during offer negotiation
Lam Research has an active Green Card practice for engineering staff. During offer negotiation, ask the recruiter which year of employment typically triggers PERM filing for Product Engineers, so you can plan around the DOL audit and priority date queue realistically.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Product Engineer roles
Lam Research posts Product Engineer openings across multiple requisition tracks that can be hard to monitor manually. Use Migrate Mate to filter roles by visa sponsorship type, so you spend your time on positions that match your current status and authorization timeline.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Lam Research sponsor H-1B visas for Product Engineers?
Yes, Lam Research sponsors H-1B visas for Product Engineers. The role qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards given its requirement for a degree in engineering or a related technical discipline. Lam Research's immigration team works with outside counsel to file the Labor Condition Application with the DOL and prepare the H-1B petition, which is standard practice for their engineering hires.
How do I apply for Product Engineer jobs at Lam Research?
Applications go through Lam Research's careers portal, where Product Engineer roles are listed by site and product line. You can also find and filter Lam Research's sponsorship-eligible Product Engineer openings through Migrate Mate, which lets you sort by visa type so you can target roles aligned to your current status before reaching out to a recruiter.
Which visa types does Lam Research commonly use for Product Engineers?
Lam Research sponsors H-1B, TN visa, J-1 visa, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Product Engineers, as well as EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories for permanent residence. H-1B is the most common long-term work visa path. TN visa is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles. F-1 OPT is a frequent bridge between graduation and H-1B status.
What qualifications does Lam Research expect for Product Engineer candidates?
Lam Research Product Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's or master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field. Hands-on experience with semiconductor process tools, process characterization, or yield improvement is prioritized. For senior levels, demonstrated ownership of a full process module, from qualification through high-volume manufacturing ramp, is expected.
How do I time my H-1B filing if I receive a Product Engineer offer from Lam Research?
H-1B cap-subject petitions can only be filed once per year, with the registration window opening in March and employment starting no earlier than October 1 if selected. If you receive an offer outside this window, Lam Research will typically bridge your employment using F-1 OPT or CPT where eligible. Confirm your OPT expiration date against the next filing cycle so there is no authorization gap.
