Align your portfolio to process control software
Lam Research's Product Software Engineers typically work on equipment control, diagnostics, and process automation for semiconductor tools. Highlight projects involving real-time systems, hardware-software interfaces, or instrumentation software before you apply.
Target roles that map to your visa category
Lam sponsors across multiple visa types, but the petition category affects your timeline. If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your role qualifies for STEM OPT extension before accepting an offer so you have runway for H-1B sponsorship.
Ask about cap-exempt H-1B options during interviews
Lam sometimes places engineers with affiliated research institutions, which can qualify as cap-exempt under USCIS rules. If you missed the annual H-1B lottery, ask your recruiter whether any positions are structured through qualifying partnerships.
Get your academic credentials evaluated early
Specialty occupation determinations for H-1B require a direct connection between your degree field and the role. If your degree is from outside the U.S., obtain a credential evaluation from a NACES-member evaluator before Lam initiates your petition.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Product Software Engineer roles
Not all of Lam's sponsored positions appear consistently across general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to filter for Product Software Engineer openings at Lam Research that explicitly support visa sponsorship, so you're applying to verified opportunities.
Clarify PERM timing before your start date
If Lam begins a PERM-based Green Card process for your role, the DOL requires a specific recruitment period before filing. Understand where you are in that timeline relative to any OPT or H-1B expiration so there are no authorization gaps.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Lam Research sponsor H-1B visas for Product Software Engineers?
Yes, Lam Research sponsors H-1B visas for Product Software Engineers. The company has an established process for petitioning USCIS on behalf of international hires in technical roles. If you're applying through the annual H-1B cap, timing your offer relative to the April lottery window is critical. Lam's recruiting team typically initiates petitions once an offer is accepted.
How do I apply for Product Software Engineer jobs at Lam Research?
You can apply directly through Lam Research's careers portal. Before applying, use Migrate Mate to identify which Product Software Engineer postings at Lam are currently open and sponsor visas, so you focus your effort on verified roles. Tailor your resume to semiconductor equipment software, referencing relevant experience with embedded systems, diagnostics, or process control applications.
Which visa types does Lam Research commonly use for Product Software Engineers?
Lam Research sponsors H-1B, TN visa, J-1 visa, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Product Software Engineers, and pursues EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for long-term hires. The right category depends on your citizenship, degree level, and where you are in the immigration process. TN visa is available only to Canadian and Mexican nationals under USMCA.
What qualifications does Lam Research expect for Product Software Engineer roles?
Lam Research's Product Software Engineer positions typically require a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a closely related field. Hands-on experience with C, C++, or Python in an embedded or hardware-adjacent context is commonly expected. Familiarity with semiconductor manufacturing processes or equipment software is a meaningful differentiator for candidates targeting these roles.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Product Software Engineer at Lam Research?
Timeline depends on visa type. H-1B cap petitions follow a fixed April filing window with an October 1 start date, so expect a six-month gap if you enter through the standard cap. TN status for eligible nationals can be obtained at the border with same-day processing. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship typically adds one to two years before an I-140 is filed with USCIS.
