INTRODUCTION
AI is reshaping what clients expect from Company Screening: faster discovery, more flexible criteria, explainable results, and clearer next steps for analysis. This role will sit at the forefront of defining the next generation of Company Screening workflows across the Bloomberg Terminal and related AI-enabled experiences.
You will decompose the full screening lifecycle, from helping clients understand which datasets they can screen on, to defining flexible tools for creating and refining screening criteria, to improving how users interact with results, track changes over time, and move into deeper analysis.
At times, this role will be technical. You will partner closely with Engineering and Data teams to determine how data should be modeled, cached, queried, and delivered so that large-scale screening workflows remain performant and reliable. The role will also help define migration paths from legacy screening applications to modern, AI-enabled workflows, ensuring clients retain trust, transparency, and continuity.
Part of the role will be looking beyond Company Screening, identifying opportunities to build reusable components that can support adjacent workflows such as Fund Screening and Index Screening.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
We’ll trust you to:
- Define and drive the product strategy for Company Screening across the Bloomberg Terminal, including integration into AI tools such as ASKB.
- Own the product roadmap, balancing client needs, commercial priorities, technical feasibility, and migration requirements.
- Assess adjacent domains, such as Funds and Indices, to identify opportunities to standardize client screening workflows by developing and reusing common components.
- Translate client and business needs into clear product direction, requirements, and prioritization.
- Partner closely with Engineering, Data, and Product teams to deliver scalable screening capabilities aligned with infrastructure and migration initiatives.
- Ensure screening criteria, results, analytics, and workflows are delivered consistently across user interfaces, APIs, data products, and AI-enabled experiences.
- Define success metrics and measure impact through adoption, client engagement, data usage, workflow completion, and commercial outcomes.
- Work with Sales, Support, and client-facing teams to understand user pain points, validate product decisions, and support client migration and adoption.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
You’ll need to have:
- 7+ years of product management or equivalent experience in Company Analysis. Either from leveraging Company screening as part of your workflow or from product managing the build of company screening tools.
- Strong knowledge of company data, including company financial, firmographic, and related datasets.
- Familiarity with private company data and the challenges of coverage, comparability, quality, and discoverability.
- Familiarity with Funds, Indices, or other adjacent financial datasets.
- Experience working with data systems, APIs, data modeling, analytics platforms, or large-scale query workflows.
- Ability to operate across technical and business domains, partnering effectively with Engineering, Data, Sales, and Product stakeholders.
- Proven ability to define product strategy, make prioritization decisions, and execute in ambiguous, cross-functional environments.
- Technical fluency, sound judgement, and a pragmatic problem-solving mindset.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
We’d love to see:
- Familiarity with Bloomberg Terminal workflows, especially Company Screening, Fund Screening, Index Screening, or similar platforms.
- Experience with AI-enabled workflows, natural-language interfaces, data discovery, or decision-support tools.
- CFA or similar designation.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts simply.
COMPENSATION
- Salary Range: 140,000 - 295,000 USD Annual + Benefits + Bonus
The referenced salary range is based on the Company's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
We offer one of the most comprehensive and generous benefits plans available and offer a range of total rewards that may include merit increases, incentive compensation (exempt roles only), paid holidays, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, short and long term disability benefits, 401(k) +match, life insurance, and various wellness programs, among others. Align your portfolio to Bloomberg's stack
Bloomberg engineering roles emphasize real-time data systems, distributed infrastructure, and low-latency applications. Showcase projects involving C++, Python, or large-scale data pipelines to signal direct relevance before your resume reaches a recruiter.
Target product-facing teams in your application
Bloomberg distinguishes between core infrastructure and product-facing engineering. Roles on the Terminal, analytics, or data products side often have more defined hiring cycles and clearer specialty occupation documentation, which strengthens your visa petition's evidentiary foundation.
Verify your role qualifies as a specialty occupation
USCIS requires that H-1B positions normally require a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. For Bloomberg product engineering roles, confirm with your recruiter that the job description explicitly requires a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline.
Start your job search on Migrate Mate
Browse confirmed Product Software Engineer openings at Bloomberg filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate, so you're targeting roles where sponsorship is already part of the hiring process rather than negotiating it after an offer.
Prepare for the LCA wage tier before negotiating
Bloomberg files a Labor Condition Application with DOL before submitting your H-1B petition. The certified wage must meet the prevailing wage for your role and work location, so understand the wage level tiers for software engineers in New York before salary discussions begin.
Use the 60-day grace period strategically if between roles
If you're transitioning from another employer on H-1B status, USCIS allows a 60-day grace period after your last day. File Bloomberg's H-1B transfer petition before that window closes to maintain continuous work authorization without a status gap.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Bloomberg sponsor H-1B visas for Product Software Engineers?
Yes, Bloomberg sponsors H-1B visas for Product Software Engineers. The company has an established internal immigration process that handles petitions through the annual H-1B cap lottery each March. If you're already on H-1B status with another employer, Bloomberg can also file an H-1B transfer, which is not subject to the cap and can begin immediately upon offer acceptance.
Which visa types does Bloomberg commonly sponsor for Product Software Engineers?
Bloomberg sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, and E-3 visas for Product Software Engineers, as well as supporting Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-tenured employees. Australian citizens should specifically ask about the E-3, which has no lottery and allows year-round filing. Canadian and Chilean nationals may qualify for the H-1B1, which also bypasses the cap.
How do I apply for Product Software Engineer jobs at Bloomberg?
You can find confirmed Product Software Engineer openings at Bloomberg through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship type so you know upfront that Bloomberg is actively sponsoring for a given position. From there, Bloomberg's application process typically includes a recruiter screen, technical assessments covering data structures and system design, and multiple engineering interviews before an offer is extended.
What qualifications does Bloomberg expect for Product Software Engineer roles?
Bloomberg generally expects a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. For product engineering roles, strong proficiency in C++ or Python is common, along with experience in distributed systems or real-time data processing. The degree requirement is also foundational to the H-1B specialty occupation standard, so a closely matched credential strengthens your petition.
How do I understand the visa sponsorship timeline for a Bloomberg offer?
Timeline depends on your visa type. H-1B cap cases require filing in April for an October 1 start, so offers made outside that window may require bridging on your current status. H-1B transfers, E-3 consular appointments, and H-1B1 visa filings can move faster, often within six to ten weeks. Bloomberg's immigration team will coordinate directly with you once an offer is made.
