The opportunity: AI coding agents now write code 100x faster than humans can review it, but new bottlenecks mean companies aren't shipping as fast as their agents can write code. We believe the major bottleneck is correctness, and it's shifting from human code review to continuous, production-grounded validation at every stage of software delivery.
Bits Release is an early-stage product that carries every change through the release lifecycle: it reviews the code, validates the change before merge, follows the rollout through staging and production, detects regressions, simulates and proposes fixes, and converts what it catches into permanent safeguards. It fuses Datadog's production signals coupled with newer capabilities like Bits Testing and Live Debugger in a single agentic harness, so companies can ship at the speed their agents write.
At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships and collaboration it builds and the creativity it brings to the table. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our Datadogs can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.
What you'll do:
- Own the vision, narrative, and roadmap for Bits Release end to end, from pre-merge to continuous production validation.
- Partner with customers, internal software engineers and design on a developer experience that earns developers' trust and gets out of the way once it's earned.
- Drive packaging and pricing to a decision (per-investigation consumption vs. continuous platform capability) with finance and product leadership.
- Treat agent quality as the product. Own the evals, reliability targets, and KPIs that prove Bits Release works, and keep proving it as it scales.
- Work with senior engineers who expect you to track the AI frontier, hold technical opinions, and stay close to customers.
- Partner with product marketing, advocacy, and sales to take Bits Release from preview to GA, with a story that lands for the SREs who buy it and the developers who use it.
Who you are:
- 6+ years of product management (or 4+ with a deep technical background), with meaningful time on developer tools, CI/CD, observability, or SRE/platform products.
- You've shipped an LLM or agentic product: you know what good evals look like, how to debug nondeterministic systems, and how to weigh cost, latency, and quality tradeoffs in production.
- You use AI coding agents daily and have strong opinions about what releasing software means two to three years from now.
- Deep SDLC fluency: PR workflows, CI systems, deployment strategies (canary, blue-green, feature flags, progressive rollout), and production signals (traces, logs, RUM, synthetics, error tracking).
- You're at your best when the problem is still ambiguous.
- You're an exceptional writer and speaker. We write, sharpen, and defend our narratives continuously, often to executive audiences.
Bonus points:
- Background as a software engineer, SRE, or platform engineer.
- Experience with sandboxed code execution, test generation, or replay systems.
- Exposure to a broader set of tooling and signals like product analytics, session replays, APM or RUM.
Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you're passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.

Align your portfolio to Datadog's product surface
Datadog Product Software Engineers work across observability, APM, and infrastructure monitoring. Build or highlight projects that demonstrate experience with distributed systems, metrics pipelines, or developer tooling before you apply.
Confirm your visa category before interviewing
Datadog sponsors several visa types, and the right one depends on your nationality and current status. Knowing whether you need H-1B, TN, or F-1 OPT extension before your first recruiter call saves time and avoids misaligned expectations late in the process.
Use Migrate Mate to target open roles efficiently
Datadog regularly posts Product Software Engineer openings across multiple teams. Use Migrate Mate to filter for roles that explicitly support your visa type, so you're only applying to positions where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Front-load your specialty occupation documentation
For H-1B petitions, USCIS requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation. Gather your degree transcripts, credential evaluation if your degree is from outside the U.S., and any professional certifications before an offer is extended so you're not scrambling post-offer.
Understand Datadog's OPT to H-1B transition window
If you're on F-1 OPT, your employer must file your H-1B petition by April 1 to maintain continuous work authorization. Raise this timeline with your Datadog recruiter during the offer stage, not after you've signed.
Prepare for a technically rigorous product engineering interview
Datadog's interview process for Product Software Engineers typically includes system design rounds focused on scalable data ingestion and API design. Review how Datadog's agent architecture and metrics pipeline work so your design answers map to real product constraints.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Datadog sponsor H-1B visas for Product Software Engineers?
Yes, Datadog sponsors H-1B visas for Product Software Engineers. The company has an established pattern of filing H-1B petitions for engineering roles, and Product Software Engineer positions typically qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria given the requirement for a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field.
Which visa types does Datadog commonly sponsor for Product Software Engineers?
Datadog sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, TN visa, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT visas for Product Software Engineers, along with immigrant visa categories including EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-term permanent residency pathways. The right category depends on your citizenship, current immigration status, and career stage. Candidates from Canada or Mexico should ask specifically about TN visa eligibility, which avoids the H-1B lottery entirely.
How do I apply for Product Software Engineer jobs at Datadog?
Applications go through Datadog's careers portal. Browse open Product Software Engineer roles, filter by team or product area, and apply directly. To narrow your search to roles that support your specific visa type, Migrate Mate lets you filter Datadog's open positions by sponsorship category so you're not investing time in applications where your visa situation isn't a fit.
What qualifications does Datadog expect for Product Software Engineer roles?
Datadog typically expects a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related discipline, along with hands-on experience building production software in languages like Go, Python, or Java. Product Software Engineers at Datadog are expected to contribute to product direction, not just implementation, so experience with cross-functional collaboration and technical decision-making carries real weight in the interview process.
How do I manage the H-1B filing timeline when starting at Datadog?
H-1B petitions are filed between March and April for an October 1 start date. If your OPT or CPT expires before October 1, you'll need a cap-gap extension to bridge the gap, which USCIS automatically provides when your petition is filed on time. Raise your visa expiration date with Datadog's recruiting or HR team early in the offer process so they can coordinate with their immigration counsel before deadlines arrive.
