Why will you enjoy this new opportunity?
The Virtual Machine Monitor Group (“Monitor Group”) is responsible for the core CPU and memory virtualization technology used in all of Broadcom's VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Division products. You will have the opportunity to work with bleeding edge CPU technology, VT-x/AMD-V, interrupt virtualization, memory virtualization/management, and virtualization of other forms of compute technologies and accelerators. The VCF Division works to build products and solutions that power the hybrid cloud. Working alongside other highly motivated and capable engineers you will get to interact with our largest customers to define the next generation of Broadcom's industry-leading VMWare Cloud Foundation platform.
Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
The Monitor Group’s principal function is to maintain and develop the virtual CPU and memory aspects of the virtual machine platform that runs guest operating systems. In the first 6 months, you will be expected to get up to speed with one of the specialization areas, such as new CPU feature enablement, x86_64 instruction set (ISA) virtualization, confidential computing, modernization of the monitor architecture, hardware accelerators, power-aware compute or aspects of guest timekeeping. By year 1 you would be expected to have impactful, core engineering contributions and enhancements in your area of specialization.
What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
This role requires you to possess a deep understanding of processor architecture and low-level OS kernel internals, system software including memory management, resource management, and interrupt architecture. The principal programming language used is C, with assembly code used whenever needed to deal with machine-specific constructs. You will work independently and as a member of a team of software engineers to design and deliver features in support of new processors or a proposed enhancement for the virtual machine monitor architecture. As an example, you might be involved in the design and implementation of upcoming CPU instruction set updates in a virtualization context. Similarly, you may be assigned to contribute to an aspect of memory virtualization/management features as part of a monitor modernization effort. For more senior roles you would be expected to make proposals that help define the design roadmap, or drive a technical effort leading other engineers.
What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?
You will be joining as a Virtual Machine Monitor Engineer as part of the Monitor Group. The Monitor Group is a part of the VMWare Cloud Foundation (VCF) Division under Broadcom. This organization handles all aspects of virtual machine engineering and has deep roots in the history of the company. The Monitor Group is highly collaborative in nature, with a well-established culture of engineering discipline. Here you will have the opportunity not only to interact with other team members within the Group, but also other groups working on core aspects of vSphere. You will lead your part within the projects, as well as frequently be given the opportunity to present your work to others and learn about the novel work of other engineers.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Product Software Engineer Jobs at Broadcom Jobs
Align your portfolio with Broadcom's stack
Broadcom's Product Software Engineer roles lean heavily on firmware, driver development, and embedded systems work. Highlighting projects involving low-level software, network infrastructure, or semiconductor-adjacent tooling will resonate far more than general full-stack experience.
Target teams with established sponsorship patterns
Broadcom operates across distinct business units, including Broadband, Networking, and Storage. Roles tied to core semiconductor product lines tend to have more established sponsorship workflows than newer or acquired divisions, so filtering by product area sharpens your targeting.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open roles by visa type
Broadcom posts Product Software Engineer openings across multiple business units simultaneously. Use Migrate Mate to filter active listings by the visa types Broadcom sponsors, so you're applying to roles where your authorization pathway is already confirmed.
Prepare for DOL prevailing wage scrutiny at offer stage
For H-1B filings, your offered salary must meet the DOL prevailing wage for your specific job title and work location. Broadcom's engineering salaries in its primary hubs typically exceed prevailing wage floors, but confirm the wage level in your offer letter before signing.
Ask about PERM sponsorship timeline during negotiation
Broadcom sponsors Green Cards for engineers in long-term roles, but PERM labor certification adds years to the process. Clarify during the offer stage whether your role is designated for permanent sponsorship and what the typical internal timeline looks like for your business unit.

Find Product Software Engineer at Broadcom JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Broadcom sponsor H-1B visas for Product Software Engineers?
Yes, Broadcom sponsors H-1B visas for Product Software Engineer roles. The company files petitions for engineers in this function across its core business units. Because H-1B is subject to the annual cap and lottery, timing your application to align with Broadcom's hiring cycle and the April USCIS filing window matters. Broadcom has internal immigration teams that coordinate the process once an offer is extended.
How do I apply for Product Software Engineer jobs at Broadcom?
Applications go through Broadcom's careers portal, where roles are listed by business unit and location. Tailoring your resume to the specific product area, whether Broadband, Networking, or Storage software, improves your chances of passing the initial screen. You can also browse open Product Software Engineer positions at Broadcom filtered by visa sponsorship availability through Migrate Mate, which surfaces only roles where international candidates are eligible.
Which visa types does Broadcom commonly use for Product Software Engineer roles?
Broadcom sponsors H-1B, TN (for Canadian and Mexican nationals), F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT for Product Software Engineers. For engineers targeting permanent residence, Broadcom also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways through PERM labor certification. The right visa depends on your nationality, degree level, and where you are in the immigration process when the offer is made.
What qualifications does Broadcom expect for Product Software Engineer roles?
Broadcom's Product Software Engineer positions typically require a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field. Hands-on experience with embedded systems, firmware, driver development, or network software stacks is prioritized over general software experience. For H-1B eligibility, your degree must be in a specialty directly related to the role, so the field of study matters as much as the degree level.
How do I understand the timeline for Broadcom's visa sponsorship process?
For H-1B, USCIS accepts petitions starting April 1 for an October 1 start date, so offers made outside that window may require bridging through OPT or cap-exempt status. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship typically takes several years from initiation to approval, particularly for nationals from high-backlog countries. Broadcom's immigration team will walk you through projected timelines once an offer is formally extended.
