Align your resume to Broadcom's stack
Broadcom's Software Engineer roles frequently require experience in C, C++, or Python alongside systems-level or embedded programming. Tailoring your resume to reflect these specifics gets past initial screening filters before sponsorship even enters the conversation.
Target divisions with active headcount
Broadcom's enterprise software and semiconductor divisions post Software Engineer roles more consistently than others. Filter your search by business unit, not just job title, to find teams that are actively hiring and more likely to move quickly through an offer.
Start OPT applications before your program ends
If you're on F-1 status, USCIS recommends filing your OPT application up to 90 days before your program end date. A gap between graduation and OPT approval can complicate a Broadcom start date, so file early.
Clarify sponsorship scope during the offer stage
Broadcom sponsors H-1B and Green Card pathways, but the scope varies by role and business unit. Ask your recruiter directly whether the position includes PERM-based Green Card sponsorship, not just H-1B transfer, before you accept.
Prepare documentation for a cap-exempt H-1B transfer
If you're already on an H-1B with another employer, Broadcom can file an H-1B transfer without waiting for the annual lottery. Have your current approval notice, I-94, and pay stubs ready so the transfer petition moves without delay.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open roles efficiently
Broadcom's Software Engineer listings are spread across multiple business units and update frequently. Use Migrate Mate to browse current openings filtered by visa sponsorship type so you're applying to roles that match your authorization status.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Broadcom sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineers?
Yes, Broadcom sponsors H-1B visas for Software Engineers. The company supports both new H-1B cap-subject petitions filed in the annual lottery and H-1B transfers for candidates already holding an approved H-1B with another employer. Transfer petitions allow you to start working at Broadcom as soon as USCIS receives the petition, without waiting for approval.
How do I apply for Software Engineer jobs at Broadcom?
Applications for Software Engineer roles at Broadcom go through the company's careers portal, where listings are organized by business unit including semiconductor, enterprise software, and networking divisions. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse Broadcom's open Software Engineer roles filtered by visa sponsorship type, which makes it easier to identify positions that match your current immigration status before applying.
Which visa types does Broadcom sponsor for Software Engineers?
Broadcom sponsors H-1B visas, EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways, and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students in eligible programs. TN visas are also sponsored for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles. The specific pathway available to you depends on your current status, the role's requirements, and the business unit you're joining.
What qualifications does Broadcom expect for Software Engineer roles?
Most Software Engineer roles at Broadcom require a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field, which also satisfies the specialty occupation requirement for H-1B sponsorship. Roles in firmware and semiconductor tooling often emphasize low-level programming in C or C++, while enterprise software positions lean toward distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and backend development experience.
How do I time my application to avoid gaps in work authorization?
If you're on OPT, apply to Broadcom roles at least three to four months before your OPT expires to allow time for USCIS to process an H-1B transfer or cap-subject petition. The H-1B cap-subject lottery opens in March each year for an October 1 start date. If you miss the lottery, a cap-exempt transfer from an existing H-1B approval avoids that constraint entirely.
