Senior Digital / Mixed-Signal IC Design or Verification Engineer
Location: Mendota Heights, MN or Broomfield, CO
Job Description Summary
Join Broadcom, a global technology leader and Fortune 500 powerhouse at the forefront of semiconductor innovation and AI infrastructure. Within our specialized Mixed-Signal ASIC division, we offer an exciting position in the explosive growth area of Data Center Enterprise Storage, where we build the critical IP responsible for providing low-power, high-performance analog and mixed-signal products. In this role, you will develop advanced semiconductor devices to support high-capacity storage needs across all top-tier service providers. You will work with highly talented teams to meet company business goals while growing your skills.
We are looking for a Senior Digital IC Design or Mixed-Signal Verification Engineer to act as a methodology leader and key technical bridge for our worldwide engineering organization. This unique opportunity allows you to drive quality initiatives, pioneer modern automation (including AI-assisted workflows), and establish robust methodologies across our US and Asia design centers.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary technical liaison between local US design teams and global cross-functional teams, translating complex specifications into seamless execution.
- Provide technical support through all phases of product development: testing, yield analysis, characterization, reliability analysis, qualification, and release to manufacturing.
- Adhere to strict schedule, die size, and power commitments.
- Conduct detailed design reviews with internal and external customers.
Digital IC Design:
- Define system requirements, digital control functions, and block partitions for next-generation preamplifier products.
- Perform digital logic design, Verilog coding, logic synthesis, formal verification, static timing analysis, and place and route.
- Support integrating the digital core with analog circuitry into a completed integrated circuit.
- Perform transistor-level high-speed digital IC design for custom cells and blocks.
Digital Mixed Signal Verification:
- Architect, develop, and maintain advanced UVM-based testbenches for the functional verification of complex mixed-signal ASICs.
- Own verification efforts at both the block and system levels for major tape-out projects, driving functional and code coverage to closure.
- Champion verification quality by integrating new methodologies (e.g., SVA, UVM/OVM) to reduce mixed-signal validation bottlenecks.
- Lead initiatives to explore and integrate modern automation and AI-assisted verification workflows to accelerate testbench generation and debug efficiency.
Qualifications & Skills
Core Requirements (All Candidates):
- Education/Experience: Bachelors in Engineering and 8+ years of related experience; or Masters degree in Engineering and 6+ years of related experience
- Communication: Excellent spoken and written communication skills, and the proven ability to coordinate technical problem-solving across global teams.
- Analytical: Proven ability to apply advanced math and physics to solve complex engineering problems.
- Bonus: An understanding of silicon process technologies (CMOS and Bipolar) and device physics is a strong plus. Expertise across both design and verification domains is highly desired.
Specialized Skills (Design Focus):
- Strong hands-on experience with ASIC EDA tools used in synthesis, simulation, static timing analysis, formal verification, and place & route.
- Deep familiarity with Verilog/VHDL RTL coding and logic design.
Specialized Skills (Verification Focus):
- Deep expertise in coverage-driven verification processes and frameworks (UVM/OVM).
- Strong understanding of event-driven simulator-based modeling techniques and how digital logic interacts with analog boundaries.
- Hands-on experience with SystemVerilog Assertions (SVA) and behavioral modeling of analog circuits.
- Proficiency in scripting (Python, Perl, TCL, etc.) to automate verification workflows, manage regressions, and streamline simulation infrastructure.

Align your portfolio to Broadcom's product lines
Broadcom's Design Engineer roles cluster around networking, storage, and broadband silicon. Tailor your resume and project examples to ASIC or FPGA design work that maps directly to these verticals before you apply.
Confirm your OPT start date before interviewing
F-1 OPT authorization takes 3 to 5 months from USCIS. If you're a recent grad targeting Broadcom, apply for OPT well before your program end date so your work authorization is active when an offer comes.
Understand how Broadcom structures H-1B sponsorship
Broadcom files H-1B petitions for design roles through the annual cap lottery each March. If you receive an offer after the lottery closes, expect to start on OPT or CPT and transition to H-1B status the following fiscal year.
Use Migrate Mate to track open Design Engineer roles
Broadcom's design engineering openings shift frequently across business units. Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsorship-eligible roles so you're applying to positions where immigration support is already confirmed.
Prepare documentation proving specialty occupation status
For H-1B approval, USCIS requires that your degree field directly corresponds to the Design Engineer role. Gather transcripts, course descriptions, and any professional certifications in digital design, EE, or computer engineering before the petition is filed.
Ask about PERM and Green Card timelines during negotiation
Broadcom sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for engineering roles, but the PERM labor certification process typically starts one year or more after your H-1B approval. Confirm the company's standard timeline during your offer stage so you can plan accordingly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Broadcom sponsor H-1B visas for Design Engineers?
Yes, Broadcom sponsors H-1B visas for Design Engineer roles. The company files cap-subject H-1B petitions annually, which means your start date depends on the March lottery cycle and an October 1 employment start. If you're already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT, you can begin working while the H-1B visa petition is pending under the cap-gap rule.
How do I apply for Design Engineer jobs at Broadcom?
Apply directly through Broadcom's careers portal, where design engineering roles are listed by business unit and location. You can also browse verified sponsorship-eligible openings on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for roles where Broadcom has confirmed visa support. Tailor your application to the specific product area, whether that's networking silicon, storage, or broadband hardware.
Which visa types does Broadcom commonly use for Design Engineer roles?
Broadcom sponsors H-1B, TN visa, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Design Engineers, along with EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visas for permanent residence. H-1B is the most common path for full-time hires. TN visa is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles. OPT and CPT are used for students and new graduates entering the role before H-1B status is established.
What qualifications does Broadcom expect for Design Engineer roles?
Most Design Engineer openings at Broadcom require a bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field. Hands-on experience with RTL design using Verilog or VHDL, familiarity with simulation and synthesis tools, and exposure to ASIC or FPGA development workflows are standard expectations. Graduate degrees strengthen applications for more senior positions.
How long does the visa process take for a Design Engineer offer at Broadcom?
Timeline depends on your visa type. F-1 OPT authorization from USCIS takes 3 to 5 months, so you need to apply well before graduation. H-1B cap petitions are filed in March with an October 1 start date, meaning there can be a gap between your offer and your first day. If Broadcom files your EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card, expect the PERM labor certification stage alone to take 6 to 18 months.
