Align your resume to Bloomberg's engineering domains
Bloomberg's engineering teams build real-time financial data systems, distributed infrastructure, and developer tooling. Frame your experience around low-latency systems, large-scale data pipelines, or internal platform work rather than generic software development to get past initial screening.
Target roles that match your visa category
Bloomberg sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, E-3, and EB-2 or EB-3 pathways. If you're Australian on an E-3 or a Singapore or Chile national eligible for H-1B1, surface that early in conversations since those visas skip the H-1B lottery entirely.
Browse verified Bloomberg openings on Migrate Mate
Filter Software Engineer roles at Bloomberg by visa type on Migrate Mate to find positions actively open to sponsorship candidates. This saves you from applying to postings where sponsorship eligibility is ambiguous or excluded.
Prepare your specialty occupation documentation early
Bloomberg's H-1B petitions require demonstrating that your Software Engineer role qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards. Gather degree transcripts, a detailed offer letter referencing the specific technical requirements, and any evidence linking your field of study to the role.
Ask about PERM timing if you want a Green Card
Bloomberg sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards through PERM labor certification filed with DOL. Ask the recruiter during the offer stage whether the role is eligible and what the typical timeline looks like, since PERM can take one to two years before priority date movement.
Use Bloomberg's H-1B cap-exempt periods strategically
If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, Bloomberg can file an H-1B transfer without waiting for the October 1 start date. You're eligible to start working at Bloomberg as soon as USCIS receives the petition, not after approval.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Bloomberg sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineers?
Yes, Bloomberg sponsors H-1B visas for Software Engineer roles. The company files both new cap-subject H-1B petitions and transfers for candidates already in H-1B status. If you're not yet in the U.S. on an H-1B, you'd need to enter the annual lottery, with the October 1 fiscal year start date applying to most new petitions.
How do I apply for Software Engineer jobs at Bloomberg?
You can apply directly through Bloomberg's careers site or find verified sponsorship-eligible openings on Migrate Mate, which filters Bloomberg's Software Engineer roles by visa type. Bloomberg's engineering hiring process typically includes an initial recruiter screen, technical phone interviews, and a multi-round onsite or virtual loop covering algorithms, system design, and domain-specific problems relevant to financial data infrastructure.
Which visa types does Bloomberg commonly use for Software Engineers?
Bloomberg sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, and E-3 visas for nonimmigrant work authorization, as well as EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories for Software Engineers pursuing permanent residence. H-1B1 applies to Singapore and Chile nationals, and E-3 is available exclusively to Australian citizens, both of which bypass the H-1B lottery.
What qualifications does Bloomberg expect for sponsored Software Engineer roles?
Bloomberg's Software Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. This degree requirement is also central to satisfying USCIS's specialty occupation standard for H-1B petitions. Relevant experience in systems programming, financial data platforms, or distributed systems strengthens both your application and the sponsorship case.
How do I navigate the timing between a Bloomberg offer and my visa filing?
If you need a new H-1B, Bloomberg would need to submit your registration during the March lottery window for an October 1 start date, meaning the offer and petition process begins months before your start date. E-3 and H-1B transfers move faster since they aren't cap-subject. Clarify your current status and authorization end date with the recruiter upfront so Bloomberg's immigration team can plan the filing timeline accurately.
