What You'll Do:
- Become the expert on usage metering, revenue-impacting behavior, and Cloud Cost Management within Technical Solutions, helping customers optimize usage and control spend across all Datadog product lines.
- Lead escalations involving unexpected usage, missing metering data, usage spikes, billing anomalies, unclear attribution, or limits enforcement (e.g., quotas, plans, exclusions, overages).
- Partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Finance to escalate bugs, align on expected behavior, improve usage visibility, and drive transparency and fairness in billing and usage tracking.
- Build internal guides, tooling, diagnostics, and playbooks — plus customer-facing content — that help teams confidently handle billing- and revenue-related questions and forecast, reduce, and monitor observability costs.
- Enable the global Solutions team by running training sessions and building scalable resources that empower others to support usage, billing, and cost-related conversations effectively.
- Act as a voice of the customer, surfacing feedback and patterns to help shape the roadmap for usage visibility, billing transparency, and cost management.
Who You Are:
- Curious and detail-oriented when it comes to how usage is measured, attributed, and billed across products — including usage limits, overages, metering discrepancies, plan entitlements, and customer contract constraints.
- Passionate about helping customers optimize their cloud footprint, with a strong grasp of cloud cost drivers, usage attribution, and spend analysis.
- Familiar with cloud billing models (AWS, Azure, GCP) — usage types, tags, accounts/projects — and how that data is exposed via APIs and billing exports.
- Comfortable digging into data retention, high-cardinality signals, metric volume, log ingestion, and overage prevention, and able to translate telemetry volume into cost impact.
- Familiar with APIs, product usage metrics, tagging strategies, and the nuances of account-level configurations and multi-org setups.
- Experienced working across technical and business boundaries — equally comfortable with backend telemetry pipelines and customer-facing impact and urgency.
- Analytical and precise, able to communicate usage and cost impact clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfortable working with ambiguity, data anomalies, and edge cases, and committed to finding root causes that drive customer trust.

Align your resume to Datadog's engineering culture
Datadog Technical Manager roles emphasize cross-functional leadership on distributed systems and observability products. Frame your experience around team scaling, incident management, and shipping infrastructure features, not just headcount or budget ownership.
Target teams hiring across multiple visa types
Datadog sponsors H-1B, TN, and F-1 OPT candidates for Technical Manager roles. Confirm which category fits your status before applying, because the offer letter and I-129 filing timeline differ significantly between cap-subject H-1B and cap-exempt TN pathways.
Search for Technical Manager roles using Migrate Mate
Filter Migrate Mate's job board by company and role to surface open Technical Manager positions at Datadog that confirm visa sponsorship upfront, so you're not applying blind and discovering sponsorship policy late in the process.
Prepare your credentials before final-round interviews
Have your degree certificates, transcripts, and any professional engineering credentials ready before you reach offer stage. Datadog's legal team will need these to assess specialty occupation eligibility for the H-1B petition without delaying your start date.
Negotiate your start date around USCIS processing windows
If you're cap-subject, H-1B employment can only begin October 1. Build that into your offer conversation early. Premium processing cuts USCIS adjudication to 15 business days and is worth requesting if your start date has limited flexibility.
Understand how a manager-level LCA affects your wage floor
Datadog must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before submitting your H-1B petition. Manager-level roles typically fall under a higher DOL prevailing wage tier, so confirm your offered salary meets the certified LCA wage for your work location.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Datadog sponsor H-1B visas for Technical Managers?
Yes, Datadog sponsors H-1B visas for Technical Manager roles. The company files petitions for both cap-subject candidates and those already holding H-1B status through a transfer. If you're in the H-1B lottery cycle, Datadog's legal team coordinates the I-129 filing and premium processing elections, though final decisions on premium processing vary by role and timing.
Which visa types does Datadog commonly use for Technical Manager roles?
Datadog supports several visa categories for Technical Managers, including H-1B and H-1B1 visa for specialty occupation workers, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying management or engineering roles, and F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates. For longer-term sponsorship, Datadog also pursues EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for eligible employees.
How do I apply for Technical Manager jobs at Datadog?
You can browse open Technical Manager positions at Datadog directly through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles that confirm visa sponsorship so you're not wasting applications on positions that won't support your status. Once you identify a role, apply through Datadog's careers portal and flag your visa requirements early in the recruiter screen, before reaching the technical interview loop.
What qualifications does Datadog expect for Technical Manager candidates needing sponsorship?
Datadog typically looks for Technical Managers with a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field, plus hands-on experience managing engineering teams shipping production software. For H-1B sponsorship, your degree must align with the specific role, and several years of progressive technical leadership in a software or infrastructure environment is the standard expectation.
How do I plan my timeline if I need Datadog to sponsor my visa?
Timeline depends on your visa category. TN sponsorship can move quickly and doesn't require USCIS approval before you start. Cap-subject H-1B petitions are filed in April for an October 1 start, so you need an offer finalized before the registration window opens in March. If you're on OPT with an approaching expiration, raise your timeline with the recruiter at the first screen to avoid a gap in work authorization.
