The opportunity: AI coding agents now write code 100x faster than humans can review it, but new bottlenecks mean companies aren't shipping as fast as their agents can write code. We believe the major bottleneck is correctness, and it's shifting from human code review to continuous, production-grounded validation at every stage of software delivery.
Bits Release is an early-stage product that carries every change through the release lifecycle: it reviews the code, validates the change before merge, follows the rollout through staging and production, detects regressions, simulates and proposes fixes, and converts what it catches into permanent safeguards. It fuses Datadog's production signals coupled with newer capabilities like Bits Testing and Live Debugger in a single agentic harness, so companies can ship at the speed their agents write.
At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships and collaboration it builds and the creativity it brings to the table. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our Datadogs can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.
What you'll do:
- Own the vision, narrative, and roadmap for Bits Release end to end, from pre-merge to continuous production validation.
- Partner with customers, internal software engineers and design on a developer experience that earns developers' trust and gets out of the way once it's earned.
- Drive packaging and pricing to a decision (per-investigation consumption vs. continuous platform capability) with finance and product leadership.
- Treat agent quality as the product. Own the evals, reliability targets, and KPIs that prove Bits Release works, and keep proving it as it scales.
- Work with senior engineers who expect you to track the AI frontier, hold technical opinions, and stay close to customers.
- Partner with product marketing, advocacy, and sales to take Bits Release from preview to GA, with a story that lands for the SREs who buy it and the developers who use it.
Who you are:
- 6+ years of product management (or 4+ with a deep technical background), with meaningful time on developer tools, CI/CD, observability, or SRE/platform products.
- You've shipped an LLM or agentic product: you know what good evals look like, how to debug nondeterministic systems, and how to weigh cost, latency, and quality tradeoffs in production.
- You use AI coding agents daily and have strong opinions about what releasing software means two to three years from now.
- Deep SDLC fluency: PR workflows, CI systems, deployment strategies (canary, blue-green, feature flags, progressive rollout), and production signals (traces, logs, RUM, synthetics, error tracking).
- You're at your best when the problem is still ambiguous.
- You're an exceptional writer and speaker. We write, sharpen, and defend our narratives continuously, often to executive audiences.
Bonus points:
- Background as a software engineer, SRE, or platform engineer.
- Experience with sandboxed code execution, test generation, or replay systems.
- Exposure to a broader set of tooling and signals like product analytics, session replays, APM or RUM.
Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you're passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.

Align your portfolio to observability engineering
Datadog's Product Engineer roles lean heavily on distributed systems, instrumentation, and API design. Before applying, make sure your portfolio shows hands-on work with monitoring pipelines, telemetry, or developer-facing tooling rather than generic full-stack projects.
Confirm your visa type before outreach
Datadog sponsors H-1B, TN, and F-1 OPT among other categories. Knowing which status you hold and its remaining authorized period helps you frame timing expectations clearly when a recruiter asks about your work authorization upfront.
Target open roles through Migrate Mate
Filter Datadog's active Product Engineer openings by visa type on Migrate Mate so you apply only to roles where your sponsorship category is confirmed, avoiding wasted effort on positions that won't move your application forward.
Prepare your degree equivalency documentation early
H-1B specialty occupation petitions require USCIS to accept your degree as directly relevant to the role. If your degree is from outside the U.S. or is in a tangential field, get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved evaluator before you receive an offer.
Understand Datadog's offer-to-petition timeline
Product Engineer offers at companies like Datadog typically move from offer acceptance to I-129 filing within four to eight weeks. If you're on OPT, confirm your OPT expiration date and whether a timely H-1B cap-subject filing covers your gap period under the 60-day grace period rules.
Flag your TN eligibility if you're Canadian or Mexican
Systems software engineers and computer systems analysts often qualify for TN status under USMCA. If you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship, ask Datadog's immigration team whether a TN petition fits your Product Engineer offer letter before defaulting to the H-1B lottery.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Datadog sponsor H-1B visas for Product Engineers?
Yes, Datadog sponsors H-1B visas for Product Engineer roles. The company has an established immigration program and works with outside counsel to file cap-subject and cap-exempt petitions depending on your situation. If you're currently on OPT or transitioning from another employer, Datadog's recruiting team will typically confirm sponsorship availability early in the interview process.
How do I apply for Product Engineer jobs at Datadog?
Apply directly through Datadog's careers site or browse their open Product Engineer roles filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate. Tailor your application to the specific product area listed in the job description, as Datadog's Product Engineer teams are organized around distinct product pillars like APM, infrastructure monitoring, and security. Highlight experience with distributed systems, APIs, or developer tooling.
Which visa types does Datadog commonly use for Product Engineer roles?
Datadog sponsors H-1B and H-1B1 visa for most Product Engineer hires, along with F-1 OPT and CPT for students and recent graduates. TN visa status is an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals whose role description maps to a qualifying USMCA occupation category. For longer-term permanent residence, Datadog supports EB-2 and EB-3 PERM-based Green Card sponsorship.
What qualifications does Datadog expect for Product Engineer roles?
Datadog typically looks for engineers with a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. Strong practical experience with distributed systems, observability tooling, or cloud infrastructure carries significant weight. For H-1B purposes, your degree field needs to align with the specialty occupation definition USCIS applies to the specific role.
How do I time my application if my OPT is expiring soon?
If your OPT expires before October 1 of the next fiscal year, you need an employer to file an H-1B cap-subject petition by the April 1 filing window. Receiving an offer from Datadog by February or March gives their immigration counsel enough lead time. The 60-day OPT grace period does not authorize work, so the petition must be timely filed before your OPT end date.
