INTRODUCTION
At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next.
Games are our next big frontier and an incredible opportunity for us to deliver new experiences to delight and entertain our quickly growing membership. You will be joining us at an exciting time as we roll out more games on both mobile and cloud and be in a position to help us redefine what a Netflix subscription means for our members around the world.
You will be joining the Games Data Science & Engineering team at an exciting time as we roll out more games on both mobile and cloud. This isn't a traditional data engineering role, we are looking for a hybrid engineer to bridge the gap between core software engineering and massive-scale data processing. You won't just be analyzing game data; you will be building the infrastructure that captures, validates, and transports it at a global scale. You will specialize in recognizing patterns and turning them into efficient, scalable frameworks usable by multiple teams. Your goal is to create shared abstractions that lower the barrier to entry for the entire Games organization.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
What You'll Do:
- Build Telemetry Services: You will design and own Java/Spring Boot services that act as the gatekeeper for millions of global events, ensuring data integrity before it ever touches our core.
- Manage the Distributed Core: You will oversee the "journey" of data through a heavy-hitting stack including Kafka, Flink, and Spark into storage solutions like Iceberg, Cassandra, and Redis.
- Create Shared Abstractions: You will develop frameworks that evolve from data processing patterns into high-efficiency platforms, making it easier for others to build data-driven experiences.
- Architect the SDK Layer: You will write high-performance, multi-language code that bridges Unity/Unreal engines with our cloud infrastructure. Your code must be "invisible" to the game’s frame rate while ensuring 100% telemetry accuracy.
- Technical Leadership: You will proactively identify and resolve technical debt, increase automation, and champion best practices in data engineering and software development across the team. Mentor junior team members and help raise the technical bar for the entire DSE organization.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Who You Are:
- We value people over process and look for humbly confident, action-oriented collaborators with deep technical expertise.
- A JVM Expert: You have deep mastery of Java or Kotlin and thrive in a Service-Oriented Architecture.
- A Hybrid Specialist: You possess a software engineering mindset and view data engineering as a software discipline. You may even be a software engineer with a focus or passion for data-driven solutions.
- System Architect: You are proficient in System Design and Architecture and have experience with massive streaming pipelines and distributed storage.
- Scale-Obsessed: You have a background in building systems that require high fault tolerance and can handle high writes/reads per second.
- Stunning Colleague: You are a sharp communicator who can break down complex data problems. You relate to the Netflix Culture of Freedom and Responsibility, working independently while giving and receiving candid, constructive feedback.

Align your portfolio to Netflix's product pillars
Netflix Product Software Engineers work across streaming infrastructure, personalization algorithms, and device experiences. Tailor your portfolio projects to one of these areas before applying, since generic full-stack work gets filtered out early in their engineering review.
Confirm sponsorship eligibility before applying
Netflix sponsors multiple visa categories for Product Software Engineers, including H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT. Check the specific role posting for visa eligibility language, since not every team or contractor arrangement qualifies for the same sponsorship types.
Prepare for a multi-round system design process
Netflix Product Software Engineer interviews heavily emphasize distributed systems design and product sense. Practicing system design for high-traffic, low-latency streaming scenarios directly mirrors what their engineering panels assess, and weak system design is a common rejection point regardless of immigration status.

Find Product Software Engineer at Netflix JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Netflix sponsor H-1B visas for Product Software Engineers?
Yes, Netflix sponsors H-1B visas for Product Software Engineers. Because the H-1B is subject to an annual cap and lottery, your application window is typically April for an October 1 start date. Netflix works with immigration counsel to file petitions on behalf of selected candidates, so timing your offer acceptance around the H-1B registration period in March is important.
How do I apply for Product Software Engineer jobs at Netflix?
Applications go through Netflix's careers portal. Most Product Software Engineer roles involve a recruiter screen, a technical phone interview, and a multi-round virtual onsite covering coding, system design, and product sense. You can also browse open Netflix roles filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate, which surfaces only positions with confirmed sponsorship history for international candidates.
Which visa types does Netflix commonly sponsor for Product Software Engineers?
Netflix sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1, and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for Product Software Engineers. Australian citizens are strong candidates for the E-3 since it has no lottery and can be processed year-round. Canadian and Mexican citizens may qualify for TN status, which can often be obtained at the border without a petition.
What qualifications does Netflix typically expect for Product Software Engineer roles?
Netflix Product Software Engineer roles generally require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related engineering field, which also satisfies the specialty occupation requirement for H-1B and E-3 purposes. Beyond credentials, Netflix places significant weight on experience with large-scale distributed systems, and many roles expect demonstrated ownership of consumer-facing product features rather than purely backend or infrastructure work.
How do I time my Netflix application around visa filing deadlines?
If you're relying on the H-1B, USCIS opens the registration window in March for an October 1 start. Targeting a Netflix offer in January or February gives your recruiter enough lead time to register you. For E-3 and TN, there's no cap, so offers can move forward at any point in the year and consular appointments can typically be scheduled within a few weeks.
