At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next.
Every stream, every recommendation, every account decision a member makes starts with a quiet question underneath it: who is this, and what do they need? This is the responsibility of Identity Engineering, managing some of the most foundational infrastructure at Netflix. It sits beneath every profile, every setting, and every account interaction our members have.
Empowering our members to manage these features is the Account Consumer Experiences (ACE) team; Account Settings, Profile Preferences, and the introduction of these features for brand-new members. ACE sits within Account Entities & Lifecycle (AEL), responsible for the core entities, relationships, and account experiences.
About the role
- Build and evolve the Account Settings experience — privacy and notification settings, profile preferences, viewing history, parental controls, managed download devices, and more, surface millions of members touch every day.
- Own pieces of New Member Welcoming (onboarding): profile creation, account identifiers, streaming interests, and language preference; flows that shape a member's very first experience with Netflix.
- Contribute across the stack, from client experiences through the backend services that power them leaning toward frontend or backend depending on team needs. Stack is TypeScript/React on the client and Java-based GraphQL services on the backend.
- Partner with the 8+ stakeholder teams that build on Account Settings and Onboarding under ACE's Hub-and-Spoke model — helping set the shared design system and technical rails while giving partner teams room to ship their own features.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Data Science to ship experiments and features that improve how members manage their account and get started on Netflix.
- Write well-tested, maintainable code, and participate in technical discussions on system design, reliability, and the long-term health of a shared, high-traffic surface.
What sets you apart?
You might be a great fit if you:
- Have 3–6+ years of professional software engineering experience building production systems, ideally spanning both frontend and backend.
- Are comfortable owning a feature end-to-end, from UI through the APIs and services behind it.
- You are strong in JavaScript/TypeScript/React and Java. Bonus knowledge GraphQL graph design, Android/Kotlin and iOS/Swift.
- Have experience integrating frontend applications with backend APIs such as GraphQL or REST.
- Exercise good judgment on a high-trust, high-traffic surface — Account Settings touches nearly every Netflix member.
- Communicate clearly, take ownership, and collaborate well across Product, Design, and Engineering.
- Embody Netflix's values: judgment, candor, selflessness, curiosity, inclusion, creativity, courage, and resilience.
What's different about us?
- You'll work on one of the most-used, most-trusted surfaces at Netflix: where members manage who they are on the service, and the flows that welcome brand-new members for the first time.
- Identity work is quiet but foundational — it underpins personalization today and is becoming central to where Netflix is headed next, across ads, games, and commerce.
- ACE runs Account Settings as a hub for 8+ partner teams, so you'll get exposure to platform thinking and governance, not just feature delivery.
- We're a small, high-context team inside a growing identity organization — high visibility, direct access to leadership, and real influence over how the team's practices take shape.

Build depth in Netflix's core technical domains
Netflix engineering interviews test systems design and distributed computing heavily. Strengthening your background in areas like content delivery, recommendation systems, or cloud infrastructure positions your application closer to the roles they actually file sponsorship for.
Verify your visa category matches the role level
Netflix sponsors multiple visa types, and the one offered depends on your citizenship and the seniority of the role. Australian citizens should ask specifically about E-3 eligibility, which avoids the H-1B lottery entirely and has no annual cap.
Track open roles before the H-1B registration window
H-1B cap-subject registrations run in March each year. Targeting Netflix Software Engineer roles in Q4 and landing an offer before February gives your employer time to prepare DOL Labor Condition Application filings ahead of the deadline.
Confirm OPT STEM extension eligibility before accepting an offer
F-1 graduates in computer science and engineering typically qualify for a 24-month STEM OPT extension, giving you three years of work authorization. Confirm your degree CIP code qualifies and that Netflix participates in E-Verify, which is required by USCIS for STEM extensions.
Use Migrate Mate to surface Netflix Software Engineer openings
Netflix posts roles across multiple job boards, and not all listings make sponsorship eligibility clear. Use Migrate Mate to filter Netflix Software Engineer positions by visa type so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is confirmed from the start.
Request a clear sponsorship timeline during offer negotiations
After receiving an offer, ask your recruiter whether the role requires premium processing for H-1B petitions. USCIS premium processing guarantees a 15-business-day adjudication window, which matters if your current status or OPT expiration is approaching.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Netflix sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineers?
Yes, Netflix sponsors H-1B visas for Software Engineer roles. Because H-1B is a cap-subject visa, your petition must be submitted during the annual registration window in March, and selection is determined by lottery. Netflix's engineering org has a consistent history of filing H-1B petitions for technical roles, so it's a realistic path for candidates without an alternative visa category.
How do I apply for Software Engineer jobs at Netflix?
Applications go through Netflix's careers portal, but not every listing makes visa sponsorship eligibility obvious. Use Migrate Mate to browse Netflix Software Engineer roles filtered by the visa type you need, so you're only spending time on positions where sponsorship is already confirmed. Tailor your application to Netflix's distributed systems and reliability engineering focus, which features prominently in their job descriptions.
Which visa types does Netflix commonly sponsor for Software Engineers?
Netflix sponsors H-1B, E-3 visa, TN visa, F-1 OPT, and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for Software Engineer roles. Australian citizens can pursue the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and a higher approval predictability than H-1B. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN visa status, which can be obtained at the border without a USCIS petition.
What qualifications does Netflix expect for sponsored Software Engineer roles?
Netflix's Software Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field, which satisfies the specialty occupation requirement for H-1B and E-3 purposes. Beyond the degree, Netflix hiring emphasizes strong systems design fundamentals, experience with large-scale distributed architectures, and a demonstrated ability to operate with minimal process oversight.
How do I time my application if my OPT or current visa status is expiring?
If you're on F-1 OPT, start the application process at least four to six months before your authorization expires to allow time for interviews, offer negotiation, and petition preparation. For H-1B cap cases, work backwards from the October 1 start date. If your status expires before then, your employer can explore premium processing or a cap-exempt bridge arrangement to maintain your work authorization without a gap.
