INTRODUCTION
At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next. The Creative Compute and Storage team designs, develops, and delivers technology infrastructure globally for the evolving needs of our creatives. As we continue to expand our content creation globally, we are looking for the best and brightest engineering talent to be part of our growth.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Our team is looking for a Senior Systems Development Engineer with deep storage expertise to be part of the development and build-out of our purposefully developed infrastructure platforms. You will own the design, automation, and reliability of the large-scale, high-performance storage systems that sit at the heart of content creation, working with internal engineering teams, technical creatives, production teams, and external vendors around the world to deliver amazing technology experiences for our creative users.
As a member of the team, you will...
- Work with a broad group of engineering teams, internal and external partners, and creative teams to design, develop, implement, and support a broad collection of technology solutions for content creation at Netflix.
- Own the architecture, deployment, and lifecycle of our high-performance storage platforms, including Dell PowerScale (OneFS) and NetApp (ONTAP), spanning file, block, and object workloads across globally distributed sites.
- Automate the full provisioning and configuration lifecycle of storage infrastructure using Terraform and infrastructure-as-code practices, treating storage as code with versioned, repeatable, and auditable deployments.
- Build and own observability for the storage fleet, including metrics, logging, tracing, capacity and performance dashboards, and proactive alerting that surface issues before they impact creative users.
- Design and build services to improve experiences and productivity for a broad range of content creative populations (e.g. post-production, animation, visual effects, etc.).
- Work in a uniquely challenging global infrastructure space with challenges far larger than almost any other studio in the world.
- Be empowered to build and develop new solutions to long-standing entertainment industry challenges.
- Be entrusted for developing, scripting, and automating solutions to improve the efficiency and functionality of our production systems. This includes deploying these solutions and ensuring their successful integration within the existing system architecture.
- Participate in storage system upgrades, data migrations, and troubleshooting tasks to maintain optimal system performance. The candidate should be able to identify potential issues, develop effective solutions, and implement them to ensure system reliability and stability.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
About You
- You have a minimum of 5 years of experience in building and developing compute, storage, and connectivity tooling to deliver product experiences for end-users.
- You have deep, hands-on expertise operating and automating enterprise storage platforms at scale, with strong production experience in Dell PowerScale / OneFS and/or NetApp / ONTAP (SMB/NFS, snapshots, replication, tiering, quotas, and performance tuning).
- You manage infrastructure as code, with strong Terraform skills (modules, state, providers) and a track record of automating storage and adjacent infrastructure provisioning.
- You are able to dissect large complex systems into sub-components, understanding each component’s additive value to the overall solution and able to optimize them both individually and collectively.
- You have a passion for automation, efficiency and scale; consistently driving operational excellence.
- You have a deep technical understanding of large-scale computing infrastructure; operating systems; high-performance file, block, and object storage technologies (PowerScale OneFS, NetApp ONTAP, and similar); scaled networking challenges; or any of the above.
- You enjoy and can effectively work collaboratively with business and product teams to develop product plans and roadmaps and then are able to own parts of the hands-on implementation of those plans.
- You thrive in identifying high-leverage, high-value work and direct your attention to those opportunities without explicit direction.
- You aim to always be learning new things, working in new spaces, and share this passion with those around you.
- You use data-driven strategies, applying thorough analytics and real-time insights for strategic and operational decisions.
- You strongly uphold observability principles, promoting transparent, measurable outcomes to improve performance and accountability, and you instrument storage systems for deep visibility into capacity, performance, and health.

Frame Your Portfolio Around Content Operations
Netflix Project Development Managers are expected to manage multiple production pipelines simultaneously. Before applying, document specific examples where you coordinated cross-functional teams across development, production, and post, since that operational depth is what hiring teams screen for.
Target Netflix's International Originals Division
Netflix's global content strategy has expanded hiring for Project Development Managers who can bridge local market productions with global distribution standards. Roles tied to international originals often have more flexibility on visa sponsorship given the specialized skill set required.
Verify Your OPT Timeline Before Applying
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your remaining authorization window against Netflix's typical hiring cycle. Netflix's recruiting process for Project Development roles can span eight to twelve weeks, so applicants with fewer than six months of OPT remaining face real timing risk before H-1B filing season.
Understand What Netflix Files Before Your Interview
For H-1B and E-3 candidates, Netflix's immigration team typically coordinates a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before any petition is filed. Knowing this step exists lets you ask informed questions during offer negotiations about where in the process the LCA sits.
Use Migrate Mate to Identify Open Roles Efficiently
Netflix posts Project Development Manager roles across multiple internal tracks and content verticals at once. Use Migrate Mate to filter verified open positions that explicitly support visa sponsorship, so you're not spending time on listings that won't progress for international candidates.
Prepare for a Green Card Conversation at the Offer Stage
Netflix sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for retained employees, but PERM labor certification timelines vary significantly by role classification. Raise the question during offer negotiation rather than after onboarding so you understand what the company commits to and when.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Netflix sponsor H-1B visas for Project Development Managers?
Yes, Netflix sponsors H-1B visas for Project Development Managers. The role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation given the requirement for a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field such as film production, communications, or business. Your employer initiates the process by filing a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before USCIS receives the H-1B petition.
Which visa types does Netflix commonly sponsor for Project Development Manager roles?
Netflix sponsors H-1B, E-3 visa, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1 visa, and permanent residence pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for Project Development Manager positions. Australian citizens can pursue the E-3 visa category, which has no lottery and a significantly faster path to approval. Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying occupations may also explore the TN visa as an option.
What qualifications does Netflix expect for a Project Development Manager?
Netflix typically expects a bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline alongside substantial experience managing content from development through production. Strong candidates demonstrate fluency with production tracking systems, cross-departmental coordination across creative and business affairs teams, and ideally prior exposure to scripted or unscripted content pipelines at a studio or streaming platform. International experience is viewed favorably given Netflix's global content slate.
How do I apply for Project Development Manager jobs at Netflix?
You can browse open Project Development Manager roles at Netflix directly through Netflix's careers page or through Migrate Mate, which filters verified listings by visa sponsorship eligibility. Tailor your application to the specific content vertical listed in the job description, since Netflix hires separately for scripted, unscripted, animation, and international formats. A resume that reflects cross-functional production coordination will perform better than one focused solely on development creative work.
How do I time my application if I need visa sponsorship at Netflix?
Timing depends heavily on your current status. H-1B cap-subject candidates need an approved petition before October 1 of the fiscal year, meaning Netflix would need to file in March during the lottery registration window. E-3 and TN visa applicants have more scheduling flexibility since neither category has an annual cap. F-1 OPT holders should account for Netflix's multi-week hiring cycle when calculating remaining work authorization before a status change is needed.
