Position Summary
We are seeking a Visual Development Artist to join our pioneering team in developing animated content using experimental GenAI-native production pipelines. This is a hands-on role where you will design and paint, create, and support the aesthetic vision of our creative leadership. You will help define the characters, environments, emotional tone, and aesthetic from story inception through final delivery. This role requires technical curiosity to navigate, build, and support hybrid workflows using both traditional and new tools, all while contributing to the development of feature-quality content within our creator- and artist-led environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and conceptualize characters, environments, and set layouts to discover the personality, visual atmosphere, mood, and tone.
- Explore, imagine, and create a variety of designs that help define the world.
- Collaborate with creative leadership to translate, establish, and maintain the visual look and style.
- Proactively engage with and help define traditional, GenAI, and hybrid workflows to achieve creative excellence, bridging 2D and 3D ideas and integration for high-quality visual aesthetics and consistency.
- Apply a strong understanding of design principles, particularly in stylized animation imagery.
- Receive and incorporate feedback quickly and thoughtfully, maintaining consistency with creative direction, production guidelines, and sprint timelines. Work closely with leadership to resolve issues and address notes.
- Drive look development and visual experimentation efforts by pioneering new approaches to blend generative imagery with traditional renders and footage.
- Build workflows, templates, and scripts as needed.
- Ensure artwork is delivered to the highest standard and on schedule through effective teamwork and problem-solving skills.
- Help foster a collaborative, inclusive, curious, and exploratory team environment.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of visual development experience in animation, VFX, games, or digital media (feature, episodic, or high-end short-form); experience with stylized or non-photoreal work is a plus OR a portfolio that demonstrates design and paint experience for animated shorts, series, or features.
- Excellence in draftsmanship with a working knowledge of anatomy and/or volumetric drawing.
- Samples and/or credits demonstrating excellence in visual development, composition, and lighting.
- Ability to adapt to a wide range of visual styles.
- Advanced working knowledge of digital drawing tools.
- Working familiarity with 3D DCCs (e.g., Maya, Unreal, or Blender) and/or experience with node-based generative interfaces is a significant plus.
- Demonstrated and genuine interest in Generative AI imagery and video, with a proactive, hands-on approach to exploring new GenAI tools to enhance visual storytelling capabilities.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to deliver high-quality work on schedule in a fast-moving environment.
- Ability to take direction positively, collaborate across disciplines, and communicate clearly with creative, technical, and production partners.
- A scrappy, builder's mindset with a high degree of independence, out-of-the-box application, and initiative as production support and workflows evolve alongside the creative process. Demonstrated experience working in ambiguous environments where the core production pipeline is being built and rapidly iterated upon.
- Comfortable taking big-picture approaches while willing to build new workflows in a fluid, evolving production environment.
- Ability to provide upward, constructive feedback to leadership for improved scalability.
- Preferred, not required: Traditional art, photography, or film background.

Frame Your Portfolio Around Content Operations
Netflix Project Development Managers are expected to manage multiple production pipelines simultaneously. Before applying, document specific examples where you coordinated cross-functional teams across development, production, and post, since that operational depth is what hiring teams screen for.
Target Netflix's International Originals Division
Netflix's global content strategy has expanded hiring for Project Development Managers who can bridge local market productions with global distribution standards. Roles tied to international originals often have more flexibility on visa sponsorship given the specialized skill set required.
Verify Your OPT Timeline Before Applying
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your remaining authorization window against Netflix's typical hiring cycle. Netflix's recruiting process for Project Development roles can span eight to twelve weeks, so applicants with fewer than six months of OPT remaining face real timing risk before H-1B filing season.
Understand What Netflix Files Before Your Interview
For H-1B and E-3 candidates, Netflix's immigration team typically coordinates a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before any petition is filed. Knowing this step exists lets you ask informed questions during offer negotiations about where in the process the LCA sits.
Use Migrate Mate to Identify Open Roles Efficiently
Netflix posts Project Development Manager roles across multiple internal tracks and content verticals at once. Use Migrate Mate to filter verified open positions that explicitly support visa sponsorship, so you're not spending time on listings that won't progress for international candidates.
Prepare for a Green Card Conversation at the Offer Stage
Netflix sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for retained employees, but PERM labor certification timelines vary significantly by role classification. Raise the question during offer negotiation rather than after onboarding so you understand what the company commits to and when.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Netflix sponsor H-1B visas for Project Development Managers?
Yes, Netflix sponsors H-1B visas for Project Development Managers. The role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation given the requirement for a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field such as film production, communications, or business. Your employer initiates the process by filing a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before USCIS receives the H-1B petition.
Which visa types does Netflix commonly sponsor for Project Development Manager roles?
Netflix sponsors H-1B, E-3 visa, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1 visa, and permanent residence pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for Project Development Manager positions. Australian citizens can pursue the E-3 visa category, which has no lottery and a significantly faster path to approval. Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying occupations may also explore the TN visa as an option.
What qualifications does Netflix expect for a Project Development Manager?
Netflix typically expects a bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline alongside substantial experience managing content from development through production. Strong candidates demonstrate fluency with production tracking systems, cross-departmental coordination across creative and business affairs teams, and ideally prior exposure to scripted or unscripted content pipelines at a studio or streaming platform. International experience is viewed favorably given Netflix's global content slate.
How do I apply for Project Development Manager jobs at Netflix?
You can browse open Project Development Manager roles at Netflix directly through Netflix's careers page or through Migrate Mate, which filters verified listings by visa sponsorship eligibility. Tailor your application to the specific content vertical listed in the job description, since Netflix hires separately for scripted, unscripted, animation, and international formats. A resume that reflects cross-functional production coordination will perform better than one focused solely on development creative work.
How do I time my application if I need visa sponsorship at Netflix?
Timing depends heavily on your current status. H-1B cap-subject candidates need an approved petition before October 1 of the fiscal year, meaning Netflix would need to file in March during the lottery registration window. E-3 and TN visa applicants have more scheduling flexibility since neither category has an annual cap. F-1 OPT holders should account for Netflix's multi-week hiring cycle when calculating remaining work authorization before a status change is needed.
