At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next.
The ASCII team owns the foundational infrastructure that powers how Netflix engineers build software, from source control and artifact management to the CI systems that run millions of builds. We’re currently building the next generation of our CI platform on GitHub Cloud and Actions. Operating at Netflix's scale means we regularly push up against the limits of the tools and platforms we rely on, and our team builds the solutions that help those products scale with us. We're looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead this team through an exciting period of growth and transformation, helping Netflix engineering move faster and more reliably at scale.
What you will do
- Lead and grow a team of engineers responsible for Netflix's SCM, artifact, and CI infrastructure
- Own the strategy for our build, CI, and SCM systems and drive reliability, efficiency, and scale across the build ecosystem
- Lead the development of our next generation CI platform build on Github Cloud and Github Actions, coordinating across hundreds of engineering teams while maintaining continuity and minimizing disruption
- Identify where we push the boundaries of vendor products, and drive the engineering work to build extensions, workarounds, and platform capabilities that keep those systems healthy and performant
- Partner closely with engineering teams across Netflix to understand their build and CI needs, co-designing solutions that work at Netflix's scale
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal customers and stakeholders, guiding them through complex, multi-phase migrations with minimal disruption
What you will bring
- Demonstrated experience managing and scaling GitHub in a large engineering organization. You understand its internals, limitations, and how to operate it at scale.
- Experience leading large scale migrations, with a clear understanding of the technical and organizational challenges involved
- A history of operating at a scale that requires going beyond what vendor products offer out of the box. You will build custom solutions and partner with vendors to address gaps
- Hands-on background in CI infrastructure, including platforms such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Buildkite, or similar
- Strong technical judgment. You can engage with engineers on architecture decisions and make tradeoffs between velocity, reliability, and cost
- Experience building trust and alignment with diverse internal stakeholders
- A bias for pragmatic outcomes. You know when to build, when to buy, and when to migrate

Frame your leadership scope in applications
Netflix Engineering Manager roles require demonstrable experience owning large-scale distributed systems and cross-functional teams. Quantify the engineering headcount you've managed and the scope of systems your teams owned, since these signal readiness for Netflix's org complexity.
Target teams with active infrastructure investment
Netflix's streaming platform, content delivery, and personalization teams have historically driven the most Engineering Manager hiring. Prioritize these verticals when applying, and tailor your experience to the technical domain of the specific job listing.
Understand which visa fits your citizenship
Australian citizens should explore the E-3 pathway specifically, which bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely. If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your OPT expiration date against Netflix's typical hiring timeline, since the process from application to start date can span several months.
Align your offer timeline with H-1B cap filing
If you need H-1B sponsorship, USCIS's cap filing window opens each April for an October 1 start date. Receiving a Netflix offer in Q1 positions you to file in that window without needing a costly change-of-status bridge or cap-exempt workaround.
Prepare for PERM requirements before negotiating
If your long-term goal is a Green Card via the EB-2 or EB-3 route, Netflix's legal team initiates PERM with DOL after you're hired. Understand that PERM requires documenting minimum qualifications precisely, so the job description in your offer letter becomes a binding legal document.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by visa type
Engineering Manager openings at Netflix span multiple visa categories and not every listing signals sponsorship availability equally. Migrate Mate lets you filter Netflix's active roles by supported visa type so you apply only to positions where your specific visa pathway is supported.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Netflix sponsor H-1B visas for Engineering Managers?
Yes, Netflix sponsors H-1B visas for Engineering Manager roles. Netflix files petitions through the standard USCIS cap process, which means timing your offer to align with the April registration window matters. If you're already on an H-1B with another employer, Netflix can file an H-1B transfer, letting you start without waiting for a new cap cycle.
How do I apply for Engineering Manager jobs at Netflix?
Apply directly through Netflix's careers site or browse open roles filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate. Netflix's Engineering Manager hiring process typically involves a recruiter screen, a leadership and strategy interview, and technical rounds focused on systems design and organizational decision-making. Tailoring your application to the specific team's technical domain significantly improves your chances of moving through the funnel.
Which visa types does Netflix commonly use for Engineering Manager roles?
Netflix sponsors H-1B, E-3 visa, TN visa, and L-1 visas for Engineering Manager positions, along with F-1 OPT and CPT for candidates transitioning from U.S. academic programs. Australian citizens using the E-3 visa benefit from no lottery and a straightforward consular process. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN visa status, which can be obtained at a port of entry without USCIS adjudication.
What qualifications does Netflix expect for Engineering Manager candidates?
Netflix expects Engineering Manager candidates to have a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related engineering field, with substantial hands-on software engineering experience before moving into management. Beyond credentials, they screen heavily for experience managing senior engineers, navigating ambiguity at scale, and influencing technical direction across teams, since the role operates with significant organizational autonomy.
How do I time the visa filing process when targeting a Netflix Engineering Manager offer?
If you need H-1B sponsorship, plan for Netflix to file your petition during the April USCIS registration period for an October start. Build backwards from there when negotiating your start date. For E-3 or TN holders, transfers move faster since neither category is cap-subject, and processing at a U.S. consulate or port of entry can happen within weeks of an accepted offer.
