INTRODUCTION
At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next. The Creative Compute and Storage team designs, develops, and delivers technology infrastructure globally for the evolving needs of our creatives. As we continue to expand our content creation globally, we are looking for the best and brightest engineering talent to be part of our growth.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Our team is looking for a Senior Systems Development Engineer with deep storage expertise to be part of the development and build-out of our purposefully developed infrastructure platforms. You will own the design, automation, and reliability of the large-scale, high-performance storage systems that sit at the heart of content creation, working with internal engineering teams, technical creatives, production teams, and external vendors around the world to deliver amazing technology experiences for our creative users.
As a member of the team, you will...
- Work with a broad group of engineering teams, internal and external partners, and creative teams to design, develop, implement, and support a broad collection of technology solutions for content creation at Netflix.
- Own the architecture, deployment, and lifecycle of our high-performance storage platforms, including Dell PowerScale (OneFS) and NetApp (ONTAP), spanning file, block, and object workloads across globally distributed sites.
- Automate the full provisioning and configuration lifecycle of storage infrastructure using Terraform and infrastructure-as-code practices, treating storage as code with versioned, repeatable, and auditable deployments.
- Build and own observability for the storage fleet, including metrics, logging, tracing, capacity and performance dashboards, and proactive alerting that surface issues before they impact creative users.
- Design and build services to improve experiences and productivity for a broad range of content creative populations (e.g. post-production, animation, visual effects, etc.).
- Work in a uniquely challenging global infrastructure space with challenges far larger than almost any other studio in the world.
- Be empowered to build and develop new solutions to long-standing entertainment industry challenges.
- Be entrusted for developing, scripting, and automating solutions to improve the efficiency and functionality of our production systems. This includes deploying these solutions and ensuring their successful integration within the existing system architecture.
- Participate in storage system upgrades, data migrations, and troubleshooting tasks to maintain optimal system performance. The candidate should be able to identify potential issues, develop effective solutions, and implement them to ensure system reliability and stability.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
About You
- You have a minimum of 5 years of experience in building and developing compute, storage, and connectivity tooling to deliver product experiences for end-users.
- You have deep, hands-on expertise operating and automating enterprise storage platforms at scale, with strong production experience in Dell PowerScale / OneFS and/or NetApp / ONTAP (SMB/NFS, snapshots, replication, tiering, quotas, and performance tuning).
- You manage infrastructure as code, with strong Terraform skills (modules, state, providers) and a track record of automating storage and adjacent infrastructure provisioning.
- You are able to dissect large complex systems into sub-components, understanding each component’s additive value to the overall solution and able to optimize them both individually and collectively.
- You have a passion for automation, efficiency and scale; consistently driving operational excellence.
- You have a deep technical understanding of large-scale computing infrastructure; operating systems; high-performance file, block, and object storage technologies (PowerScale OneFS, NetApp ONTAP, and similar); scaled networking challenges; or any of the above.
- You enjoy and can effectively work collaboratively with business and product teams to develop product plans and roadmaps and then are able to own parts of the hands-on implementation of those plans.
- You thrive in identifying high-leverage, high-value work and direct your attention to those opportunities without explicit direction.
- You aim to always be learning new things, working in new spaces, and share this passion with those around you.
- You use data-driven strategies, applying thorough analytics and real-time insights for strategic and operational decisions.
- You strongly uphold observability principles, promoting transparent, measurable outcomes to improve performance and accountability, and you instrument storage systems for deep visibility into capacity, performance, and health.

Frame Your PM Portfolio Around Netflix's Product Principles
Netflix evaluates Product Development Managers on demonstrated ownership of full product lifecycles, not just feature delivery. Tailor your case studies to show how you've driven consumer-facing outcomes with measurable impact, since that language maps directly to how Netflix defines product excellence.
Identify Which Visa Category Fits Your Timeline
Netflix sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and O-1 visas for this role. If your OPT is expiring before an H-1B cap-subject petition can take effect, discuss E-3 eligibility (Australian citizens) or TN (Canadian and Mexican nationals) with your recruiter before accepting an offer.
Request Written Sponsorship Confirmation Before Signing
Once Netflix extends an offer, ask HR to confirm in writing which visa category they intend to file and whether they cover legal fees. Netflix typically works with outside immigration counsel, so clarifying scope early prevents surprises at the petition stage.
Understand How Netflix's PERM Timing Affects Green Card Planning
If your goal is permanent residency via EB-2 or EB-3, know that PERM labor certification at a company like Netflix requires demonstrating no qualified U.S. workers are available for your specific role. Priority date backlogs at DOL and USCIS mean starting this conversation at hiring, not two years in.
Use Migrate Mate to Target Open Roles by Visa Type
Netflix posts Product Development Manager openings across multiple teams simultaneously, making it hard to identify which roles align with your visa category. Migrate Mate lets you filter Netflix's open positions by visa type, so you're applying to roles the company is actively prepared to sponsor.
Prepare for Technical and Strategy Rounds Simultaneously
Netflix's interview process for Product Development Managers includes both product strategy presentations and analytical problem-solving. Preparing your product vision documentation and metrics-driven work samples before your first screening reduces delays if your F-1 OPT grace period is a limiting factor on your start date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Netflix sponsor H-1B visas for Product Development Managers?
Yes, Netflix sponsors H-1B visas for Product Development Manager roles. Because the H-1B is subject to an annual cap and lottery, Netflix typically files cap-subject petitions in April for an October 1 start date. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, a cap-exempt transfer is possible and avoids the lottery entirely. Confirm the filing timeline with Netflix's HR team early in the offer process.
How do I apply for Product Development Manager jobs at Netflix?
Applications go through Netflix's careers site, where Product Development Manager roles are listed by team and location. Tailor your resume to reflect full product lifecycle ownership, since Netflix screens heavily for demonstrated scope and measurable consumer impact. You can also browse open Netflix Product Development Manager positions filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles aligned with your specific visa situation.
Which visa types does Netflix commonly use for Product Development Manager roles?
Netflix sponsors H-1B, E-3 visa, TN visa, O-1 visa, and J-1 visas for Product Development Managers, and supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for longer-term employees. Australian citizens on E-3 visas benefit from a separate annual cap that has historically gone unfilled, making it a more predictable path than H-1B. Canadian and Mexican nationals on TN visa status can often start faster since TN doesn't require USCIS petition approval before entry.
What qualifications does Netflix expect for a Product Development Manager role?
Netflix expects Product Development Manager candidates to have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as computer science, engineering, or business, along with substantial experience leading product strategy and cross-functional teams in technology or media. The H-1B specialty occupation requirement means your degree field should directly relate to the role. Candidates with deep experience in streaming, consumer platforms, or personalization systems tend to align well with how Netflix structures these positions.
How do I time my application if my work authorization is expiring soon?
If your F-1 OPT is nearing its end date, apply to Netflix Product Development Manager roles at least three to four months before expiration to allow time for an offer, petition preparation, and USCIS processing. STEM OPT extensions give you up to 24 additional months if your degree qualifies. For cap-subject H-1B filings, work backward from the April registration window, since a gap in work authorization between OPT expiration and October 1 is one of the most common timing issues candidates face.
