We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next.
The Ads data engineering team builds centralized and large-scale datasets that support the overall goals of our Ads data initiatives, focusing on the creation of standardized, scalable datasets, frameworks, and integration mechanisms to enhance discoverability, accessibility, and usability for all stakeholders within the Ads organization. We deliver data as a product through defining core foundational data and providing reusable, consistent, and curated datasets that typically unify data from various systems and data producers, ensuring we account for any changes upstream, such as new ad products (e.g. what is pitched and sold to Netflix advertisers), event types, or integration channels, so our customers have the data they need to build solutions and make decisions.
We are looking for a stellar Data Engineering Manager who can lead a team of talented data engineers and oversee the Ads inventory and demand management (forecasting, simulation), pricing/packaging, media planning data, sales performance data, and sales workflow automation. This role is critical to building reliable, scalable systems that enable accurate inventory prediction, packaging, and sales operation excellence. Your leadership will ensure the creation of robust, scalable, and efficient data pipelines and platforms, enabling Netflix to deliver targeted and impactful advertising experiences to our members while maintaining a strong commitment to data privacy and security.
In this role, you will:
- Lead a team of strong engineers building high-scale, highly reliable data processing systems serving the Ads domain.
- Build a strong team vision and roadmap for the team.
- Effectively partner with a diverse group of stakeholders to enable healthy and impactful collaboration among teams.
- Offer direct, constructive feedback grounded in empathy. Help team members amplify their strengths and grow through their challenges. Be a thought partner in their career development.
- Monitor and proactively address any drain on the team's productivity and efficiency, ensuring the team can focus the majority of their efforts on innovation.
- Hire and grow a diverse, high-performing team of top-tier data engineering talent.
What we are seeking in an ideal candidate:
- You have 8+ years of experience in data engineering. You have strong programming (at least 1 major language) and SQL experience in your background.
- You have 3+ years of engineering leadership experience, preferably in the Ad tech domain.
- You see what’s ahead and advocate for smart investments, efficiency, innovation, and long-term value.
- You attract top talent and build inclusive, high-performing teams. You know great outcomes start with great people.
- You care about your team’s growth and well-being. You handle tough conversations with empathy and clarity.
- You have a strong engineering background and can guide teams to deliver great technical outcomes. A BS in Computer Science/Engineering or a related discipline.
- You have strong experience with distributed data processing technologies (i.e. Spark/Hadoop/flink, etc.)

Align your projects with Netflix's technical stack
Netflix recruits interns for distributed systems, data engineering, and developer tooling. Tailor your portfolio to reflect hands-on work in Java, Python, or cloud-native infrastructure, since interviewers assess technical fit against real production challenges.
Confirm CPT authorization before your start date
F-1 students must have CPT authorized by their Designated School Official before beginning any paid internship. Netflix's HR team will verify your work authorization status, so delays in DSO approval can push your start date or rescind an offer.
Apply during Netflix's primary intern recruiting window
Netflix posts the bulk of its Engineering Intern roles in the fall for the following summer. Applying early in that cycle matters because headcount for sponsored roles fills faster than domestic-only positions, and later applicants may find fewer open slots.
Clarify the visa pathway during your offer conversation
Netflix sponsors multiple visa categories for interns. When you receive an offer, ask the recruiter which authorization type applies to your situation so you're not waiting on USCIS processing timelines that could conflict with your program's academic calendar.
Browse sponsored Engineering Intern roles on Migrate Mate
Filtering by role and visa type saves time when targeting companies with a real sponsorship track record. Use Migrate Mate to surface active Engineering Intern openings at Netflix and similar technology employers that consistently support international candidates.
Prepare for OPT-to-H-1B timing if you plan to stay
If your internship converts to a full-time offer, Netflix will need to file an H-1B petition subject to the annual cap and lottery. Understand that cap registration opens in March for an October 1 start, which affects when post-graduation employment can begin.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Netflix sponsor H-1B visas for Engineering Interns?
Netflix supports H-1B visa sponsorship for engineering roles, though internships are more commonly authorized under F-1 CPT or OPT while you're actively enrolled in a degree program. If an internship converts to a full-time offer, Netflix has a track record of sponsoring H-1B petitions through the annual USCIS cap registration process for eligible candidates.
How do I apply for Engineering Intern jobs at Netflix?
Applications go through Netflix's careers site, where Engineering Intern roles are listed by team and location. Roles typically require submitting a resume and completing technical screening rounds that focus on coding and systems design. You can also find active Netflix Engineering Intern openings filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate, which makes it easier to confirm sponsorship availability before applying.
Which visa types does Netflix commonly use for Engineering Interns?
Netflix supports F-1 CPT and F-1 OPT for students currently enrolled in or recently graduated from U.S. degree programs. For candidates outside the F-1 pathway, Netflix has sponsored J-1 visa intern status, E-3 visas for Australian citizens, and TN visa status for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying technical roles. The right category depends on your citizenship, degree status, and the specific position.
What qualifications does Netflix expect from Engineering Intern candidates?
Netflix Engineering Intern roles typically require active enrollment in a bachelor's or master's program in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. Interviewers focus on coding ability, system design fundamentals, and the capacity to work on ambiguous problems with minimal supervision. Familiarity with large-scale distributed systems or streaming infrastructure is a meaningful differentiator, given the nature of Netflix's platform.
How do I manage the timing between my internship and visa authorization?
F-1 CPT authorization must be in place before your first day of work, so you need your DSO to approve it before Netflix's start date. OPT has a 90-day unemployment limit, so back-to-back gaps between your internship end and any follow-on role require careful tracking. For non-F-1 pathways like TN or E-3, authorization is typically obtained before entry and must match the exact role and employer listed in your offer documentation.
