INTRODUCTION
Figma is growing our team of passionate creatives and builders on a mission to make design accessible to all. Figma’s platform helps teams bring ideas to life—whether you're brainstorming, creating a prototype, translating designs into code, or iterating with AI. From idea to product, Figma empowers teams to streamline workflows, move faster, and work together in real time from anywhere in the world. If you're excited to shape the future of design and collaboration, join us! Figma's AI Tools team builds the AI-powered workflows, platforms, and tooling that make every engineer at the company more productive. From agentic CI auto-fixing and AI-assisted code review to background cloud agents that turn a Slack message into a pull request, this team owns the systems that are transforming how Figma builds software. The team operates across a three-layer platform stack—sandbox runtime, cloud agents, and workflow orchestration—while shipping and maintaining a growing portfolio of org-wide developer workflows that compound across hundreds of engineers. This is a full time role that can be held from one of our US hubs or remotely in the United States.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
What you’ll do at Figma:
- Lead and grow a team of engineers responsible for building and operating Figma's AI developer workflows and the cloud agent platform that powers them
- Own the technical strategy and roadmap for AI Developer Experience, spanning sandbox runtime infrastructure, cloud agent reliability, workflow orchestration, and org-wide agentic workflows
- Hire and scale the team - establishing team culture, execution cadence, and operational processes from the ground up
- Drive the reliability, observability, and scalability of our cloud agent platform, ensuring it meets production-grade standards as adoption grows across the engineering organization
- Partner with product engineering, security, infrastructure, and DevEx teams to identify the highest-leverage opportunities for AI-assisted developer workflows and drive adoption
- Evaluate and integrate emerging AI tools, models, and agent frameworks, making strategic bets on which capabilities to build versus buy
- Establish evaluation frameworks to measure the quality, cost, and impact of AI-generated code and agentic workflows across the organization
- Coach and mentor engineers through career development, performance feedback, and technical leadership, fostering a culture of ownership, speed, and high-quality execution
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
- 3+ years of experience managing infrastructure, platform, or developer experience engineering teams, with a track record of scaling teams and delivering high-performing systems
- Strong software engineering background, with Staff-level or above technical depth before moving into management with deep understanding of distributed systems, platform architecture, and the operational challenges of running production infrastructure at scale
- Demonstrated fluency with AI/ML systems, LLM-based workflows, or agent architectures - as a builder, not just a consumer - with the ability to reason about tradeoffs in nondeterministic systems
- Experience hiring, onboarding, and growing engineering teams in fast-paced, high-growth environments
- Ability to set technical direction, drive cross-functional alignment, and make sound architectural decisions while balancing speed of execution with long-term sustainability
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
While not required, it’s an added plus if you also have:
- Direct experience building AI developer tooling, agent platforms, or AI-assisted engineering workflows
- Familiarity with agent frameworks such as Cursor, Claude Code, or similar background agent systems, including MCP (Model Context Protocol) integrations
- Experience with workflow orchestration platforms such as Temporal, n8n, or Tines for multi-stage automation
- Background in developer experience platforms including CI/CD systems, build tools (Bazel/Blaze), or large polyglot monorepo environments
- Experience building evaluation and quality frameworks for AI-generated outputs

Frame your leadership experience for product-led teams
Figma evaluates Engineering Managers on their ability to lead teams shipping product, not just managing headcount. Tailor your resume to show how you've driven technical roadmaps and cross-functional alignment, not just org chart responsibilities.
Verify your visa type before applying
Figma sponsors multiple visa categories including H-1B, E-3, and H-1B1 visa. Knowing which category applies to your nationality lets you ask targeted questions during recruiting and avoids late-stage surprises when the offer arrives.
Target roles explicitly tied to a product area
Figma structures engineering leadership around product surfaces like Dev Mode, FigJam, or platform infrastructure. Roles tied to a specific product area have clearer scope, which strengthens the specialty occupation case USCIS evaluates during H-1B adjudication.
Understand the LCA's role in your offer timeline
Before Figma can file your H-1B petition, the DOL must certify a Labor Condition Application. This adds time between verbal offer and formal filing, so build that window into your planning if you're transitioning from another status.
Use Migrate Mate to identify open Engineering Manager roles at Figma
Figma regularly posts Engineering Manager openings across its product and platform teams. Use Migrate Mate to filter these roles by visa type so you're only spending time on positions that align with your sponsorship eligibility.
Prepare your credential documentation before final interviews
Figma's immigration process moves quickly after an offer. Have your degree transcripts, prior visa approvals, and employment verification letters ready so your employer's immigration counsel can begin the H-1B or E-3 filing without delays.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Figma sponsor H-1B visas for Engineering Managers?
Yes, Figma sponsors H-1B visas for Engineering Manager roles. The company works with immigration counsel to file H-1B petitions for qualifying candidates, which includes obtaining a certified Labor Condition Application from the DOL before USCIS adjudicates the petition. If you're subject to the H-1B cap, timing your application around the annual April lottery window is critical.
Which visa types does Figma commonly sponsor for Engineering Manager roles?
Figma sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, and E-3 visas for Engineering Manager positions, along with employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. Australian citizens can pursue the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and allows two-year renewable periods. F-1 OPT holders can also start in this role while a longer-term petition is prepared.
How do I apply for Engineering Manager jobs at Figma?
Applications go through Figma's careers site, where Engineering Manager roles are listed by product area or platform team. Migrate Mate aggregates these openings and filters them by visa sponsorship type, so you can confirm sponsorship eligibility before applying. Expect a multi-stage process including recruiter screen, technical scoping conversations, and a leadership-focused interview loop.
What qualifications does Figma expect for Engineering Manager candidates?
Figma typically looks for Engineering Managers with hands-on experience leading software engineering teams in a product environment, usually including prior experience as an individual contributor. A bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related field is standard for visa sponsorship purposes, as USCIS requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation under H-1B rules.
How do I think about timing if I need visa sponsorship before a status deadline?
If you're on OPT or in a 60-day grace period, the gap between offer and approved status can be stressful. Figma's immigration process includes DOL LCA certification before the USCIS filing, which takes time. Starting your job search early and being transparent with the recruiting team about your status timeline gives you the best chance of a smooth transition.
