Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
H-1B eligibility requires your Engineering Manager role to qualify as a specialty occupation. Gather documentation showing your degree field directly maps to your management scope, whether that's bioprocess engineering, analytical instrumentation, or manufacturing systems.
Target divisions with active engineering headcount
Thermo Fisher's Life Sciences Solutions and Laboratory Products groups run large engineering organizations. Focusing your search on these divisions, rather than applying broadly, puts you in front of hiring managers with recurring leadership gaps and established sponsorship workflows.
Raise sponsorship before the offer stage
Thermo Fisher's talent acquisition teams handle high application volumes. Confirming visa sponsorship availability early in recruiter screens, specifically for Engineering Manager levels, avoids late-stage misalignments after you've invested time in panel interviews.
Understand the LCA filing sequence for managers
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before USCIS can receive your H-1B petition. For Engineering Manager roles, the prevailing wage determination is tied to your specific site location, so relocation between Thermo Fisher campuses can require a new LCA.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsoring roles
Engineering Manager openings at large science companies are not all sponsorship-eligible. Use Migrate Mate to filter Thermo Fisher's current Engineering Manager listings by visa type, so you're applying only to roles with confirmed sponsorship rather than guessing from job descriptions.
Prepare for PERM if you're pursuing permanent residence
Thermo Fisher has sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for engineering leadership roles. PERM requires demonstrating no qualified U.S. workers are available, so your resume should clearly document specialized expertise, such as GMP manufacturing systems or scientific instrument development, that distinguishes your candidacy.

Find Engineering Manager at Thermo Fisher Scientific JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsor H-1B visas for Engineering Managers?
Yes, Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsors H-1B visas for Engineering Manager roles. The company participates in the annual H-1B cap lottery and also has cap-exempt pathways through partnerships with qualifying research institutions. Engineering Manager positions generally meet the specialty occupation standard required by USCIS, particularly when the role requires a degree in engineering, bioprocess science, or a closely related technical discipline.
Which visa types are commonly used for Engineering Manager roles at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
Thermo Fisher sponsors H-1B visas as the primary nonimmigrant work authorization for Engineering Managers. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles. The company also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for candidates transitioning from graduate engineering programs, and sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card petitions, including PERM-based applications, for engineering leaders seeking permanent residence.
How do I apply for Engineering Manager jobs at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
Apply directly through Thermo Fisher Scientific's careers portal, where Engineering Manager openings are listed by division and location. You can also browse verified sponsorship-eligible Engineering Manager roles at Thermo Fisher on Migrate Mate, which filters positions by visa type so you can confirm sponsorship availability before applying. Tailor your application to highlight technical leadership experience relevant to the specific division, such as instruments, diagnostics, or biosciences.
What qualifications does Thermo Fisher Scientific expect for Engineering Manager candidates?
Thermo Fisher typically expects a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical, or bioprocess engineering for Engineering Manager roles. Beyond the degree, hiring managers look for demonstrated experience leading cross-functional engineering teams, familiarity with regulated manufacturing environments such as GMP or ISO standards, and a track record of delivering product or process improvements in a science or research industry context.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for an Engineering Manager at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
Timeline depends on visa type. For H-1B, standard USCIS processing runs several months after the October 1 start date, though premium processing can reduce adjudication to around 15 business days. If Thermo Fisher initiates a PERM-based Green Card, the full process from labor certification through I-140 approval and priority date availability can span two or more years, depending on your country of birth and the EB category used.
