- Foster a team culture grounded in technical excellence, psychological safety, continuous improvement, and shared accountability
Minimum Qualifications
- Proven track record of building, leading, and growing high-performing software engineering teams in control of their production environment
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in direct people management responsibility, with experience leading a team of comparable size (10+ engineers) and accountability for team-wide technical and people outcomes
- Deep expertise in designing and operating mission-critical, highly scalable distributed systems at production scale
- Demonstrated ability to remain technically credible across your team's systems - engaging in architecture reviews and technical decisions at a level of depth that earns the trust of senior engineers, without requiring hands-on code review

Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with agentic AI frameworks, generative AI tooling, or LLM-integrated developer workflows in a production or near-production context
- Familiarity with energy, sustainability, or carbon accounting domains - including clean energy procurement, emissions tracking, or supply chain transparency systems
- Skilled in driving organizational AI fluency - rolling out AI-assisted development practices, evaluating tooling, and sustaining adoption over time
- Experience operating infrastructure in regulated environments with strict data privacy and compliance requirements

Align your credentials to Apple's hardware stack
Apple's Engineering Manager roles typically require deep domain expertise in areas like silicon, sensors, or display systems. Before applying, verify your degree and experience map to the specific hardware discipline you're targeting, not engineering management broadly.
Target teams with active LCA filings
Search DOL's LCA disclosure data for Apple's prevailing wage filings by job title and worksite. Focusing on locations with recent certified LCAs signals where Apple is actively hiring and filing sponsorship paperwork for Engineering Manager positions.
Distinguish yourself through cross-functional leadership scope
Apple evaluates Engineering Managers on their ability to drive execution across hardware, software, and operations simultaneously. Demonstrating experience managing multi-disciplinary teams on product cycles, not just engineering headcount, positions you more competitively in their process.
Clarify your visa category before the offer stage
Apple sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and Green Card pathways depending on your nationality. Understanding which category applies to you lets you ask informed questions during the offer process rather than discovering mismatches after a verbal offer.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Engineering Manager roles
Apple's Engineering Manager openings are distributed across multiple internal teams and aren't always easy to track. Use Migrate Mate to browse and filter verified roles at Apple that explicitly support visa sponsorship for this position level.
Account for PERM labor certification timelines if targeting a Green Card
If Apple offers EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, PERM certification alone can take 12 to 18 months before USCIS even receives your I-140. Factor this into your career planning, especially if you're already on a time-limited status like OPT or H-1B.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Apple sponsor H-1B visas for Engineering Managers?
Yes, Apple sponsors H-1B visas for Engineering Manager roles. Apple participates in the annual H-1B lottery each April, and Engineering Managers are among the technical leadership positions regularly included. If you're already in H-1B visa status with another employer, Apple can also file an H-1B transfer, which lets you start working before USCIS approves the petition.
How do I apply for Engineering Manager jobs at Apple?
Apply directly through Apple's careers portal, targeting teams aligned with your hardware or systems expertise. Engineering Manager roles at Apple are often specific to a product family, such as silicon, camera systems, or device integration, so applying to roles that match your technical domain increases your chances. Migrate Mate is a practical starting point to identify and filter roles at Apple that include visa sponsorship.
Which visa types does Apple commonly use for Engineering Manager roles?
Apple sponsors H-1B and H-1B1 visas for most Engineering Manager hires, with E-3 visa available for Australian citizens and TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying roles. For longer-term permanent residence, Apple supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways. F-1 OPT and CPT candidates can also be considered, typically as a bridge before a full sponsorship petition is filed.
What qualifications does Apple expect for Engineering Manager roles?
Apple's Engineering Manager positions generally require a bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field, combined with demonstrated experience leading hardware or systems teams through full product development cycles. Managers overseeing specialized functions like silicon design or manufacturing engineering are expected to have deep hands-on domain knowledge, not just general people management background.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take when joining Apple as an Engineering Manager?
Timeline depends heavily on visa type. An H-1B transfer or E-3 consular appointment can move in four to eight weeks if documents are in order. A new H-1B subject to the annual lottery requires waiting until October 1 of the following fiscal year. Green Card sponsorship through PERM typically adds one to three years before you hold permanent resident status, excluding any priority date backlog.
