Align your stack with NetApp's core platforms
NetApp's engineering teams focus on cloud-native storage, ONTAP, and hybrid cloud integrations. Highlighting experience with distributed systems, Kubernetes, or cloud platforms like AWS and Azure signals direct relevance to the roles they're actively staffing.
Target teams with active H-1B filing history
NetApp sponsors H-1B visas across Software Engineer roles, but sponsorship decisions happen at the team level. Prioritize roles in cloud, data management, and platform engineering, where sponsorship demand has been consistent based on DOL LCA disclosure data.
Get your technical portfolio ready before interviews
NetApp's Software Engineer interviews are system design and coding-heavy. Preparing documented examples of large-scale system work, open-source contributions, or storage and networking projects strengthens both your candidacy and your H-1B specialty occupation case.
Browse open Software Engineer roles on Migrate Mate
Finding confirmed sponsoring employers takes time. Migrate Mate filters Software Engineer openings by visa type so you can focus your applications on NetApp roles where sponsorship is explicitly supported, rather than guessing from generic job postings.

Find Software Engineer at NetApp JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does NetApp sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineers?
Yes, NetApp sponsors H-1B visas for Software Engineers. The company has a documented history of filing H-1B petitions for technical roles, particularly in cloud infrastructure, storage engineering, and platform development. Sponsorship is handled at the team and business unit level, so confirming support early in the process with your hiring manager or recruiter is advisable before you reach the offer stage.
How do I apply for Software Engineer jobs at NetApp?
Applications go through NetApp's careers portal. You can also find their sponsored Software Engineer openings on Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa type so you're not sorting through listings that don't support sponsorship. Tailoring your resume to NetApp's focus areas, specifically cloud-native development, distributed storage, and data services, improves your chances of passing initial screening.
Which visa types does NetApp commonly use for Software Engineer roles?
NetApp sponsors H-1B visas for the majority of international Software Engineer hires, along with F-1 OPT and STEM OPT for recent graduates already authorized to work. For longer-term pathways, the company also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship, typically initiated after a period of employment. TN status is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying roles.
What qualifications does NetApp expect for sponsored Software Engineer roles?
Most Software Engineer roles at NetApp require a bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field. This matters beyond hiring, because a qualifying degree is required for H-1B specialty occupation eligibility. Practically, NetApp looks for experience in systems programming, cloud platforms, or storage technologies, with stronger emphasis on distributed systems for senior-level positions.
How do I time my application if my OPT is expiring soon?
If your OPT has less than six months remaining, you need to move quickly. The H-1B cap lottery opens in March each year, with an October 1 start date if selected. Missing the registration window means waiting another year. If you're on STEM OPT, confirm your employer is E-Verify enrolled and file the extension through your DSO well before your initial OPT expires to maintain continuous work authorization.
