Workplace Portfolio Planning & Operations
San Jose, California, United States
Job category: Business Operations
Job ID: 136107-en_US
Job Summary
Workplace Experience (WX) manages a global portfolio that must balance cost, capacity, employee needs, business growth, and changing ways of working. The Workplace Portfolio Planning & Operations role will help WX and executive leaders see the full picture, enable data-driven strategy and make more informed portfolio decisions.
The role brings together data, business inputs, and portfolio activity into a clear view of performance, risks, and choices. In partnership with WX leaders and cross-functional teams, this person helps develop portfolio strategy and plans, improves how the team operates, and keeps major priorities moving.
This role is a hybrid role and the candidate is expected to be in the office at least 3 days per week (39 days per fiscal quarter).
Workplace Dashboards and Decision Support:
- Create a clear, reliable view of the global WX portfolio across cost, utilization, capacity, workforce, footprint, projects, and key external benchmarks. Use that view to help leaders understand what is changing, where attention is needed, and what choices are available.
- Turn complex data and business inputs into forecasts, scenarios, and recommendations. Partner with WX leaders as they develop portfolio strategy, priorities, and plans for initiatives such as Thrive Together, flexible workspace, and engineering hubs.
- Set the standards for portfolio analysis and reporting, including the data needed, the questions to answer, and the measures that matter. Make complex findings clear and useful for leadership discussions.
Portfolio Management and Performance:
- Build and maintain the portfolio dashboard, reporting, and KPI framework that gives WX leadership a common view of performance, progress, risks, and dependencies.
- Help leaders use metrics and benchmarks to set expectations, assess results, and make course corrections. Improve the quality and consistency of portfolio data over time.
- Track the work that matters most across the portfolio, including major initiatives, milestones, decisions, risks, and interdependencies, so leaders can focus on the issues that need action.
Business Partnership and Knowledge Management:
- Build a practical planning rhythm with HR, Finance, SAS, Sustainability, GTM, Engineering, and regional teams. Bring together hiring plans, location needs, office-use expectations, growth or reduction plans, and workforce changes that affect workplace decisions.
- Create a more organized and trusted set of portfolio documents, data, and shared assets. Establish clear ownership and simple standards so teams can find current information and use it with confidence.
- Improve the team’s ability to use AI and automation by strengthening the structure, quality, and accessibility of portfolio information.
Operating Rhythm and Cross-Functional Delivery:
- Run a consistent portfolio operating rhythm through business reviews, planning checkpoints, leadership updates, and follow-up. Give teams and leaders clarity on decisions, owners, timing, risks, and next steps.
- Lead or support cross-functional projects that improve how WX plans and operates, including spend and budget analysis, lease analysis, process improvements, and policy or process changes.
- Work through complex, ambiguous issues independently and bring leaders clear options when there are trade-offs. Influence partners across functions to keep important work aligned and moving forward.
What You Bring
- 12+ years of experience in analytics, strategy and operations, portfolio management, program management, workplace operations, real estate or a related field.
- Strong experience with analytics, dashboards, KPIs, forecasting, reporting, and performance management.
- Experience with Tableau, Power BI, IWMS platforms, or similar enterprise tools.
- Experience working with incomplete or complex data and using it to inform business decisions.
- Experience using or scaling AI-enabled analysis, forecasting, automation, or knowledge tools in an operations environment.
- A track record of leading cross-functional work and influencing senior stakeholders without direct authority.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills; able to explain complex analysis in plain language.
- Comfort working in a global, matrixed environment where priorities and inputs can change quickly.
- Workplace operations, corporate real estate, space planning, or lease-management experience is a plus.
What Set You Apart
- You can bring together different data points, perspectives, and business needs to give leaders a practical view of the portfolio.
- You use data to help people make decisions—not just to report what happened.
- You create enough structure to keep complex work moving without adding unnecessary process.
- You build trust across teams and follow through on the details that turn decisions into action.
- You can step back to see the broader business question while still knowing how to get the work done.
Compensation:
The target salary range for this position is 170,000 - 253,000 USD. The salary offered will be determined by the candidate's location, qualifications, experience, and education and may be outside of this range. Final compensation packages are competitive and in line with industry standards, reflecting a variety of factors, and include a comprehensive benefits package. This may cover Health Insurance, Life Insurance, Retirement or Pension Plans, Paid Time Off, various Leave options, Performance-Based Incentives, employee stock purchase plan, and/or restricted stocks (RSU’s), with all offerings subject to regional variations and governed by local laws, regulations, and company policies. Benefits may vary by country and region, and further details will be provided as part of the recruitment process.
At NetApp, we embrace a hybrid working environment designed to strengthen connection, collaboration, and culture for all employees. This means that most roles will have some level of in-office and/or in-person expectations, which will be shared during the recruitment process.

Target NetApp's core engineering and cloud teams
NetApp's sponsorship activity is concentrated in technical disciplines like storage engineering, cloud architecture, and software development. Focusing your application on these areas gives you the strongest chance of landing a role that qualifies for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship.
Understand that NetApp sponsors both nonimmigrant and immigrant visas
NetApp supports the full sponsorship journey, from H-1B status through to EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card petitions. If long-term U.S. residency is your goal, it's worth confirming PERM and immigrant visa support during the offer negotiation stage.
Use Migrate Mate to verify open roles with real sponsorship history
Not every NetApp job posting will explicitly mention visa sponsorship. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and identify which NetApp roles have a track record of supporting international candidates.
Leverage F-1 OPT as a foot in the door
NetApp has a history of hiring F-1 OPT candidates, which can serve as a pathway to H-1B sponsorship. If you're on OPT, securing a full-time role at NetApp positions you well ahead of the next H-1B registration cycle.
Prepare for a technical interview process aligned with enterprise software
NetApp's hiring process typically involves multiple technical rounds focused on data management, cloud infrastructure, and systems design. Strong preparation in these areas signals fit for the high-complexity roles that most commonly receive sponsorship at the company.
Engage with NetApp's university recruiting programs if you're on a student visa
NetApp actively recruits from university programs, particularly for engineering and data roles. Candidates on F-1 visas who connect with NetApp through campus recruiting channels often have a clearer pathway to OPT conversion and eventual H-1B sponsorship.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does NetApp sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, NetApp sponsors H-1B visas and has a strong track record of doing so consistently across multiple years. Sponsorship is most common in technical roles such as software engineering, cloud infrastructure, and data management. If you're targeting NetApp on an H-1B, focus your search on these core technical departments where sponsorship activity is highest.
Which visa types does NetApp sponsor?
NetApp sponsors H-1B visas, EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards, F-1 OPT, and TN visas. This makes it one of the more comprehensive sponsors in the technology sector, supporting candidates at both the temporary work authorization stage and through to permanent residency. TN eligibility applies to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying specialty occupations.
Which departments or roles at NetApp are most likely to receive visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at NetApp is concentrated in software engineering, cloud solutions, data infrastructure, and technical program management. These roles align directly with NetApp's core product and services focus. Candidates in research, systems architecture, and enterprise IT are also commonly sponsored. Business and operations roles receive sponsorship less frequently, though it does occur.
How do I find NetApp jobs that are open to visa sponsorship?
The most reliable approach is to use Migrate Mate, which aggregates roles from verified sponsors and lets you filter specifically for companies with a real sponsorship history like NetApp. This saves significant time compared to manually screening job postings, many of which don't explicitly state whether sponsorship is available for a given role.
How do I time my application to NetApp around the H-1B cap cycle?
H-1B registration opens in March each year for an October 1 start date. To align with this, aim to secure a NetApp offer between January and February, giving the company enough time to prepare your petition before registration closes. If you're already on OPT or another status, cap-exempt scenarios may offer more flexibility, confirm this with NetApp's HR team during the offer process.
