Target roles in Amazon's core technical divisions
Amazon's strongest sponsorship activity concentrates in software engineering, cloud infrastructure, and machine learning, areas central to AWS, Alexa, and its retail technology platforms. Focusing your search on these divisions improves your chances of landing a sponsored role.
Understand which visa types Amazon actively files
Amazon sponsors H-1B, E-3, and Green Card pathways, making it a strong fit for Australian citizens on E-3 and skilled professionals pursuing permanent residence. Knowing which category fits your background helps you target the right roles from the start.
Apply early in Amazon's recruiting cycle
As a high-volume sponsor, Amazon runs structured hiring cycles tied to the H-1B cap. Applications that land before the February-to-March window give recruiters enough time to initiate sponsorship paperwork ahead of the April lottery registration deadline.
Emphasize technical depth, not just experience breadth
Amazon's hiring process uses its Leadership Principles heavily, but for sponsored roles, technical specificity matters equally. Demonstrating deep expertise in a specialty, rather than broad generalist skills, signals that your background justifies the sponsorship investment.
Filter for verified sponsors before you apply
Not every Amazon job posting makes sponsorship status clear. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, helping you focus only on Amazon roles where sponsorship has actually been filed for similar positions.
Prepare for a multi-stage interview process before sponsorship is confirmed
Amazon typically confirms visa sponsorship only after extending an offer. Expect a phone screen, technical assessments, and a full loop of behavioral and system design interviews before the sponsorship conversation formally begins, preparation across all stages is essential.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Amazon sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Amazon sponsors H-1B visas and is consistently one of the most active H-1B sponsors in the United States. Sponsorship is most common in software engineering, data science, cloud architecture, and related technical roles. Amazon participates in the H-1B cap lottery each year, so timing your application to align with their recruiting cycle is important.
Which visa types does Amazon sponsor?
Amazon sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, E-3 visa, and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. E-3 visa sponsorship makes Amazon particularly accessible for Australian citizens, since the E-3 has no lottery and a far simpler filing process. Green Card sponsorship is available but typically initiated after you've established yourself in a role.
Which departments or roles at Amazon are most likely to offer visa sponsorship?
Visa sponsorship at Amazon is most concentrated in technical roles, software development engineers, applied scientists, data engineers, and cloud solutions architects. Teams within AWS, Alexa, and Amazon's retail technology divisions account for a large share of sponsored positions. Non-technical roles in operations, finance, and program management are sponsored less frequently.
How do I find Amazon jobs that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists Amazon roles with verified sponsorship history, so you can filter specifically for positions where sponsorship has been filed before. This removes the guesswork of sorting through postings that don't clearly state their sponsorship status. Applying through channels that confirm sponsorship upfront saves time and helps you prioritize the right opportunities.
How do I approach the Amazon application process as a visa-sponsored candidate?
Start by identifying roles that match your technical specialty, since Amazon's sponsorship activity is strongest in focused technical domains. Apply early in the recruiting season if you need H-1B sponsorship, as Amazon initiates paperwork well in advance of the April lottery. Be upfront about your visa requirements early in recruiter conversations, Amazon's immigration teams are experienced and expect these discussions.
