Tips for Finding Senior Software Development Engineer Jobs at Bloomberg
Align your portfolio to Bloomberg's engineering scale
Bloomberg's Senior SDE interviews stress distributed systems, low-latency data pipelines, and proprietary infrastructure. Before applying, document projects where you owned system design decisions at scale, not just feature-level contributions.
Target Bloomberg's known high-volume engineering teams
Bloomberg consistently hires Senior SDEs across its data, analytics, and terminal platform engineering groups. Filtering your applications to these teams improves your odds compared to applying broadly across the company.
Clarify your visa category before the offer stage
Bloomberg sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, and E-3 visas for this role. If you're Australian or a Chilean or Singaporean national, ask your recruiter early whether they're set up for E-3 or H-1B1 filings to avoid delays at the offer stage.
Prepare your credential equivalency documentation now
If your computer science degree is from outside the U.S., have a credential evaluation completed before Bloomberg's offer process moves to filing. USCIS requires the degree to support a specialty occupation determination, and gaps here slow petitions.
Understand Bloomberg's PERM timeline for Green Card sponsorship
Bloomberg files EB-2 and EB-3 PERM-based Green Cards for engineers, but DOL's PERM process typically takes 12 to 18 months before USCIS even receives the I-140 petition. Raise your long-term sponsorship question with HR during negotiation, not after you've started.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open Bloomberg SDE roles
Senior SDE openings at Bloomberg that include visa sponsorship aren't always easy to identify from general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to filter Bloomberg's active roles by sponsorship type so you're only spending time on positions that match your visa situation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Bloomberg sponsor H-1B visas for Senior Software Development Engineers?
Yes, Bloomberg sponsors H-1B visas for Senior Software Development Engineer roles. The company participates in the annual H-1B cap lottery for new hires and also files H-1B transfers for engineers already holding H-1B status with another employer, which bypasses the lottery entirely. If you're currently on H-1B with a different company, a transfer to Bloomberg is a faster path.
Which visa types does Bloomberg commonly use for Senior Software Development Engineer roles?
Bloomberg sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, E-3, and immigrant visas including EB-2 and EB-3 for Senior SDEs. Australian citizens are well-positioned to use the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and a much faster processing path than H-1B. Chilean and Singaporean nationals may qualify for H-1B1 visa. Green Card sponsorship through PERM is available for engineers in long-term roles.
What qualifications and experience does Bloomberg expect for Senior Software Development Engineer positions?
Bloomberg typically expects a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. At the senior level, interviewers look for strong systems design fundamentals, experience with high-throughput or real-time data systems, and evidence of technical ownership on complex projects. A graduate degree can strengthen both your candidacy and the specialty occupation case USCIS evaluates for H-1B petitions.
How do I apply for Senior Software Development Engineer jobs at Bloomberg?
You can find Senior Software Development Engineer openings at Bloomberg on Migrate Mate, where roles are filtered by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm sponsorship availability before applying. Bloomberg's interview process for Senior SDEs typically includes an initial coding screen, a systems design round, and behavioral interviews. Applying through a filtered, sponsorship-verified job board avoids wasting time on roles that don't match your visa category.
How do I time my Bloomberg application around the H-1B cap and lottery?
USCIS opens H-1B registrations in March each year, with a lottery conducted shortly after if registrations exceed the 85,000 annual cap. Bloomberg would need to submit your registration before that window opens, which means getting an offer finalized well ahead of March. If you miss the lottery cycle, Bloomberg can still pursue cap-exempt filing options in some cases, or you can start in another status and transfer later.
