Align your portfolio to AI data pipelines
Scale AI's engineering work centers on data labeling infrastructure, model evaluation tooling, and high-throughput distributed systems. Frame your portfolio around systems you've built at scale, not just general software projects. USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation claims, so clear technical depth matters.
Verify your degree field maps cleanly
H-1B specialty occupation approval requires a direct-fit degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. If your degree is in a tangential area, gather transcripts and course syllabi early so your employer's attorney can build the strongest possible petition.
Target Scale AI's applied engineering teams specifically
Scale AI hires Senior Software Development Engineers across distinct verticals, including Nucleus, RLHF infrastructure, and government platforms. Research which team's open roles match your backend or ML systems background before applying, since hiring managers assess fit at the team level, not just the company level.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open roles
Browse Senior Software Development Engineer openings at Scale AI that are open to visa sponsorship using Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for employers with active sponsorship histories so you're not guessing which postings are realistic targets.
Time your application around H-1B cap deadlines
If you need cap-subject H-1B sponsorship, USCIS registration opens in March for an October 1 start. Factor this into your job search timeline. Accepting an offer in January still leaves you waiting nine months if you're not already in a cap-exempt status like F-1 OPT or CPT.
Clarify visa transfer logistics before signing
If you're already on an H-1B with another employer, Scale AI can file an H-1B transfer and you can start on portability after 240 days of approval on your current petition. Confirm the attorney's timeline and whether premium processing is on the table before you give notice.

Find Senior Software Development Engineer at Scale AI JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Scale AI sponsor H-1B visas for Senior Software Development Engineers?
Yes, Scale AI sponsors H-1B visas for Senior Software Development Engineers. As an AI technology company competing for specialized engineering talent, sponsoring H-1B workers is a standard part of their hiring process. If you're on F-1 OPT, Scale AI can also extend your authorization while an H-1B petition is filed on your behalf, subject to the annual cap and lottery.
Which visa types are commonly used for Senior Software Development Engineer roles at Scale AI?
H-1B is the primary visa type for Senior Software Development Engineers at Scale AI. Australian citizens are also eligible for the E-3 visa, which bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN status under the USMCA. For longer-term immigration, Scale AI supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process administered by the DOL.
What qualifications and experience are expected for Senior Software Development Engineer roles at Scale AI?
Scale AI typically expects senior-level candidates to have significant hands-on experience building distributed systems, data infrastructure, or ML platform tooling at scale. Strong proficiency in Python, Go, or similar languages is standard, along with experience operating systems that process high data volumes. Candidates with backgrounds in AI data pipelines, model evaluation infrastructure, or developer tooling for ML workflows are particularly well matched to Scale AI's engineering roadmap.
How do I apply for Senior Software Development Engineer jobs at Scale AI?
You can find Senior Software Development Engineer openings at Scale AI directly on their careers site, or use Migrate Mate to browse roles that have confirmed visa sponsorship. When applying, tailor your resume to emphasize systems engineering depth, data infrastructure experience, and any work adjacent to AI or ML pipelines. Scale AI's interview process typically includes a technical screen, system design round, and team-fit conversations, so prepare for distributed systems design questions specifically.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Senior Software Development Engineer at Scale AI?
Timeline depends on your visa type. An H-1B transfer for someone already holding H-1B status can be filed quickly, with work authorization beginning on portability. A new cap-subject H-1B requires winning the March lottery and waiting until October 1 to start. F-1 OPT or CPT candidates can begin sooner if their authorization covers the gap. USCIS premium processing for H-1B is available and cuts adjudication to roughly 15 business days.
