Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding ML Research Engineer Jobs at Scale AI Jobs
Align your research portfolio to Scale AI's evaluation work
Scale AI's ML Research Engineer roles center on RLHF, model evaluation, and data pipeline design. Before applying, reframe your portfolio around measurable contributions to model quality or alignment research, not just general deep learning projects.
Distinguish your research contributions from engineering execution
Scale AI separates ML Research from software engineering tracks. USCIS specialty occupation approval depends on the role requiring a specific advanced degree field. Frame your experience around original research output, not general coding or system deployment.
Target open roles that map to your LCA prevailing wage tier
DOL Labor Condition Applications tie visa approvals to prevailing wages by location. For Scale AI's San Francisco and New York offices, understand that the LCA wage tier affects your negotiating position and the petition's strength with USCIS.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Scale AI openings by visa type
Scale AI sponsors across H-1B, E-3, TN, and Green Card pathways for this role. Use Migrate Mate to surface active ML Research Engineer postings filtered by the visa types relevant to your nationality, so you're applying to roles that fit your authorization.

Find ML Research Engineer at Scale AI JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Scale AI sponsor H-1B visas for ML Research Engineers?
Yes, Scale AI sponsors H-1B visas for ML Research Engineer roles. The H-1B requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, which Scale AI's research-focused engineering roles generally satisfy given the advanced degree requirements in computer science, machine learning, or a related field. Sponsorship is subject to the annual H-1B cap and lottery, so timing your offer relative to the April 1 filing window matters.
Which visa types are commonly used for ML Research Engineer roles at Scale AI?
Scale AI sponsors several visa categories for ML Research Engineers, including H-1B, E-3 (for Australian citizens), TN (for Canadian and Mexican nationals under USMCA), F-1 OPT and CPT for students, J-1, and employment-based Green Cards through the EB-2 or EB-3 pathways. Your eligibility depends on nationality, degree level, and where you are in the job search process.
What qualifications does Scale AI expect for ML Research Engineer roles?
Scale AI's ML Research Engineer positions typically require a graduate degree in machine learning, computer science, statistics, or a related field, along with hands-on experience in model evaluation, RLHF, or large-scale data pipelines. Published research or demonstrated contributions to frontier AI systems strengthen your application. Roles vary in seniority, so review each job description carefully for specific technical requirements.
How do I apply for ML Research Engineer jobs at Scale AI?
You can browse and apply for ML Research Engineer openings at Scale AI directly through their careers page or through Migrate Mate, which filters active Scale AI roles by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm eligibility before applying. Tailor your application to Scale AI's focus areas, specifically model quality, evaluation frameworks, and alignment research, and be prepared for a technical loop that includes research presentations or take-home assessments.
How do I plan my timeline if Scale AI is sponsoring my H-1B as a new graduate?
If you're graduating and relying on F-1 OPT to bridge to an H-1B, you need to start early. USCIS opens H-1B registration in March for an October 1 start date. That means securing your offer, completing the LCA with DOL, and having the petition filed by April 1. If you miss the cap, cap-exempt filing through a university or nonprofit partner is one potential bridge while you wait for the next cycle.
