ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a seasoned Firmware/Software Product Architect with 10+ years of experience to lead the design, development, and optimization of firmware/software for our industrial automation product line, including Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Software Defined Automation, and field I/O devices. You will architect scalable, real-time firmware/software solutions that ensure high reliability, safety, and performance in harsh industrial environments such as manufacturing, oil & gas, LNG, petrochemical, and power generation. The role also collaborates closely with multiple teams, including offer and program managers, to review and interpret system requirements, translating them into implementable product architectures and specifications for Agile teams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Architect end-to-end firmware solutions for DCS controllers, field I/O modules, and gateways with an emphasis on real-time operation, deterministic performance, and deep understanding of external components and their integration into system architecture.
- Define firmware architecture including RTOS selection, driver development, and communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus), with strong awareness of how external components and systems integrate with DCS development.
- Lead design reviews and ensure alignment with key industrial standards such as IEC 62443, IEC 61131, IEC 61499, and other applicable standards influencing cybersecurity, system design, and interoperability.
- Oversee firmware development in C/C++ with focus on modularity, scalability, and integration with cloud and edge analytics. Provide architectural guidance rather than hands-on coding when appropriate.
- Lead or oversee troubleshooting of complex issues, unit/integration testing, and ensure conformance with security and communication protocol standards.
- Mentor engineers and drive innovation in areas including AI-accelerated architecture, design, implementation, and test workflows.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years in embedded firmware development for industrial automation, with proven experience in DCS, PLC, and I/O systems.
- Expertise in C/C++ for bare-metal and RTOS environments (e.g., FreeRTOS, Zephyr, RT-Linux, VxWorks).
- Strong knowledge of ARM Cortex-M/A architectures, microcontrollers, and peripherals (ADC/DAC, PWM, industrial Ethernet, CAN).
- Experience with industrial protocols (Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC UA) and real-time embedded systems.
- Solid understanding of cybersecurity frameworks (IEC 62443), industrial automation standards (IEC 61131, IEC 61499), and embedded testing methodologies.
- Experience in product architecture or product ownership and leading Agile development teams.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Technical Skills:
- Experience with Linux kernel development for industrial systems.
- Familiarity with TSN, edge AI/ML frameworks, and open-source development.
- Background in high-availability systems, redundancy protocols (PRP/HSR), or FPGA-based acceleration.
What will make you successful:
- Proven ability to create modular, future-proof architectures with emphasis on scalability using open-source or inner-source methodologies.
- Strong experience applying software design patterns such as HAL abstraction, state machines, and layered architecture.
STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT & LEADERSHIP
- Strong interpersonal skills to align cross-functional teams, including hardware, Firmware, Software, Quality, and product management.
- Experience leading technical roadmaps, influencing senior stakeholders, and guiding major architectural decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor teams and drive innovation.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's/Master's in Electronics, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work across cross-functional teams.

Align your portfolio to industrial and infrastructure projects
Schneider Electric's Architect roles often sit at the intersection of building systems and energy infrastructure. Portfolios that show experience with industrial facilities, data centers, or smart building integration signal direct fit for their manufacturing-adjacent project pipeline.
Confirm your visa type matches the role level
Schneider Electric sponsors both H-1B and E-3 visas for Architects. If you're Australian, the E-3 path skips the lottery entirely. Confirm with the recruiter early which visa type they're filing, since the LCA and prevailing wage documentation differ between the two.
Target Schneider Electric openings through Migrate Mate
Schneider Electric posts Architect roles across multiple business units, making it easy to miss relevant openings. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Architect positions at Schneider Electric where visa sponsorship is confirmed, so you're not applying to roles that won't support your status.
Prepare your credentials for specialty occupation review
USCIS requires that the Architect role qualifies as a specialty occupation tied to your specific degree field. Have your architectural degree, any licensure documentation, and a clear written connection between your credential and the job duties ready before the offer stage.
Ask about PERM eligibility during offer negotiations
For long-term U.S. pathways, ask whether Schneider Electric has sponsored Architects through EB-2 or EB-3 PERM labor certification. Knowing their internal process for initiating PERM early helps you plan the multi-year timeline before your H-1B years start running down.
Time your application around H-1B cap deadlines
If you're not already in H-1B status, USCIS registration opens in March for an October 1 start date. Target Schneider Electric roles in late January through February so an offer can be secured before the registration window closes, avoiding a full year's delay.

Find Architect at Schneider Electric JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Schneider Electric sponsor H-1B visas for Architects?
Yes, Schneider Electric sponsors H-1B visas for Architect roles. The company has a consistent history of filing H-1B petitions for this function across its building systems, energy infrastructure, and industrial divisions. Your employer will file the petition with USCIS, but you'll need to ensure the role meets the specialty occupation standard, which requires a direct relationship between the job duties and your degree field.
How do I apply for Architect jobs at Schneider Electric?
Applications go through Schneider Electric's careers portal, but roles are spread across multiple business units and geographies, which makes filtering for sponsorship-eligible positions difficult. Migrate Mate aggregates Architect openings at Schneider Electric where visa sponsorship is confirmed, so you can apply directly to the right roles without manually screening each listing for immigration support.
Which visa types does Schneider Electric commonly use for Architect roles?
Schneider Electric sponsors H-1B visas for most international Architects, and E-3 visas for Australian citizens, which bypass the H-1B lottery. For candidates seeking permanent residence, the company has used EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways, which require a PERM labor certification filed with the DOL before the immigrant petition can proceed.
What qualifications does Schneider Electric expect for Architect roles?
Most Architect roles at Schneider Electric require a bachelor's or master's degree in architecture, electrical engineering, or a related field, depending on the specific business unit. Roles focused on building management systems or industrial infrastructure often expect proficiency in BIM platforms and energy modeling tools. Professional licensure strengthens your application, particularly for client-facing or project lead positions.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for an Architect at Schneider Electric?
For H-1B sponsorship, the standard processing window from USCIS is three to five months after the October 1 cap year opens, though premium processing can reduce USCIS review to around 15 business days. The full timeline from offer acceptance to work authorization typically runs six to eight months when factoring in LCA certification with DOL and petition preparation. E-3 consular processing in Australia is generally faster, often two to four weeks from interview to visa stamp.
